The Swarm Grows

Kill 5 Silithid Searchers, 5 Silithid Hive Drones, and 5 Silithid Invaders and return to Moktar Krin in Thousand Needles.
  •
Silithid Searcher slain (5)
  •
Silithid Hive Drone slain (5)
  •
Silithid Invader slain (5)

Description

Hmm. Seems Belgrom thinks those monsters are a threat. He wants them pushed back into whatever depths they crawled up out of.

I guess killing the dwarves sent by the Explorers' League wasn't enough--now I have to send a half-dead war party into another battle. We won't be able to do it ourselves; not while we're in this condition. The dig site's to the south of here. There shouldn't be anymore dwarves to deal with. Feel up to wielding a blade or staff and doing your part to aid us?

Very easy to get swarmed when doing this.

Try to pull drones away from any other drones so you don't get swarmed.

The invaders are down in the cave, you must kill the drones for invaders to spawn.

67,64 is where you pickup/turnin the quest, it's part of a chain.
69,85 is the general area you find the mobs.
A tip is to worry first about the Invaders- they are only inside of the little hive(Entrance: 66,86) and then if you get all 5 and don't have enough of the other two types, go specifically for them.
Searchers are level 32 and 33
Drones are level 33 and 34
Invaders are level 34 and 35

You can also pick up a Cracked Silithid Carapace(Seems to have a high droprate) which starts a quest to collect items off of the Silithid corpses. https://classicdb.ch/?quest=1148

This can be a tough quest for melee characters (warriors, rogues) because the attacking the bugs seem to pull aggro at impossible distances.. i had 8 of them on me at one time, with more still streaming in from somewhere in the pit.&nbsp Since mages seem to have no such problem, i finally figured that using a ranged weapon ie. a bow or gun to pull away the bugs will not aggro the rest (unless really close..), and after pulling them a safe distance away they can be killed normally.&nbsp Tried and tested this, and it worked.

As for the invaders, which spawn deep inside the tunnel, its actually quite safe to walk in and kill them.&nbsp There's a small offshoot to the right of the main tunnel, and if you pull the invaders to the end of the offshoot and kill them, the lone patrolling drone won't even notice as he walks past the offshoot entrance.&nbsp About three of the invaders spawn in the cave at the end, luring them out might take some time, but its best to do it after the drone turns around and wanders back to the start of the tunnel.

Hope this helps you guys who hang around outside the tunnel for hours waiting for an invader to wander out&nbsp :)

You can find them from Tanaris at The Shimmering Flats, 65,86. Invaders are deeper inside the cave, gathered together. (about ~5 of them closer other) Also the yellow mobs, Hive Drones are closer, but they don't attack you if you don't attack to other. Some of them moves also from A to B so watchout them. :P

Solo'd this one at 35 with a 35 pet as a tank. The Searchers and Hive Drones can be found out side at this location: 67,84. These creatures are very sociable, even more so than the Raptors in the Barrens. The socialable aggro range is wide so watch out. Often I was attacked by 4 or more mobs at once and had to either run or Feign Death. The third mob, Invaders, can be found in the cave in the same area. The loc of this cave entrance is: 66,86. At first I only saw one Invader when I cleared out the cave but upon going back in more popped and as I killed the Hive Drones. My guess is that the Hive Drones are place holders.

My results:
You gain 2750 experience.
You reputation with Orgrimmar has increased.
Received 35 Silver

As its been said, the mobs are easy on their own, but they will swarm you... sort of.

Each one is different.

The searchers don't generally aggro the other ones. Although they will on occasion.

The invaders are the next safest. They will only aggro other mobs if they are really close and they are low on health.

The most dangerous ones are the hive drones. They are the ones who are nominally passive. However, The instant you attack one, they'll chitter and call all the other ones around it (for a good distance). Not only that, they'll call again when they are close to death.

In other words, your best bet is to pick off the drones when they are far away from any other slithid.

Unfortunately, to get the invaders, you HAVE go go into their hive/cave. When you do, there will generally be at least 1-2 drones around that will aggro you when the invader is at low health. So your safest bet is (if you have trouble with multible mobs) is to kill the invader, he'll aggro some drones around you, and then RUN LIKE HELL. They'll eventually give up and as long as you don't hit them, they won't pull any more.

When you first enter the cave there is only one Invader and several Drones.

However, if you kill all of the drones INSIDE the cave, then several Invaders will spawn.

Easy to solo, the Drones and Invaders vary from level 32-35

I finally got round to completing this last night. The trick is to pick off the Searchers and Drones from around the edge of the site. They are easy one by one. (DO NOT at any point drop down into the excavation hole below the wooden walkways. If you fight there you WILL aggro multiples). When you have enough of those, skirt around the site anti clockwise and you will see the entrance to the cave where the invaders are. Approach from the&nbsp west and walk down the small incline adjacent to the 'hive entrance' from there walk in to the cave and take your Invaders one by one again. When you have 5 exit the way you came in.
This was so much easier this way, hope this helps.

I just did this quest as a lvl 38 warlock and i would venture to say that u could do this even at lvl 33-34 solo as a warlock.&nbsp possibly lower even.&nbsp as a 38 tho, was a very easy quest.&nbsp the searchers and the the drones were on the outside of the cave...those of u who dont know where the cave is, its south of where u pick the quest up, sw of the race trackkinda looks like an excavation site...&nbsp what i did was since some of the mobs were yellow, i would kill the searchers first, then kill the yellow ones that were running around outside of the big pit since they tend to call an additional mob over.&nbsp as a lock, i used the voidwalker to keep the mobs off of me. i did not kill the yellow tagged mobs inside the pit...harder to see additional aggro...&nbsp when i cleared the searchers and the other mobs, i then walked into the cave after the invaders.&nbsp in fact, that was all that was in the cave for me. also, i cleared out the whole cave for xp and even found a chest inside.&nbsp simple to deal with these invaders when pulling using your DOT spells and then let vw torment them and take the dmg. i did not die once, or in fact, did not lose much health, only mana..hehe.&nbsp if another strategy works better tho, by all means, do whatever is comfortable for u(using the succubus, felhunter, or imp could be better? try it out)...also, look out for an item that starts a quest that these little boogers drop..starts a quest called, "parts of the swarm"...these parts are gathered off of the bugs and then quest is turned in at xroads.&nbsp good luck!

Solo'd this as 34 lock. The drones are non-aggro, but do link..a LOT. watch out, you might get 3+ of em. lol. The cave is rather easy. were approx 4 of the invaders in there, and waited for a respawn near the entrance, which didn't take too long. Also, watch for an item drop that starts the quest "Parts of the Swarm", easy quest to do while you're there. :D Good Luck!

It seems that the Invader spawn changes size and location. If you go into the cave and can't find any, try killing the drones until they show up. I killed 3 inside the small caveren, then the last 2 showed up right in the front tunnel of the cave.

They will also come to the aid of the invaders/searchers, not just one another.&nbsp Gotta pull these guys way apart before settling down to kill them.

Edit:&nbsp also, terrain is no obstacle to the ones rushing to assist.&nbsp Climbing straight up the sides of the walls of the dig, for example.

Solo'd as lvl 32 Shaman. Picked off first two groups carefully outside the cave waiting to make sure they were away from others before attacking. Twice I had to kill 2 Drones at the same time. Barely made it. They show up from nowhere! Got killed once when taking on the Invaders inside the cave due to agro. Tried a trick next go around that worked every time. Instead of firing a lightening bolt and bringing them to me which alerts Drones as well, I headed straight at them and hit them with a Frost Shock and continued past the invader so I put myself between the cave wall and them. Killed the Invaders easily after that. Drones never came to help out.

Possible to solo - successfully completed level 33 no deaths.&nbsp Used a feral druid, simply take them on one by one (possible if careful even with invaders in cave), sometimes a double up but not fatal.&nbsp With stealth, to pull one just unstealth a little away from them rather than attacking, then you don't pull their friends.

Moktar Krin located Ironstone Camp, NW Shimmering Flats

Silithids are south, there is a hole with the Searchers and Drones, and a cave within the hole with Invaders and Drones.&nbsp Level - low 30s.

Also an additional quest is possible with a silithid carapace drop, for body parts - Parts of the Swarm.

The quest may be tricky for those of you who have difficulty avoiding over-aggro. About three times,I had to run out of the site because i had 4+ on me.

Despite advice NOT to go in the cave whilst theere are alot of Silitid roaming at the entrance (some suggest killing all the ones on the outside first), a well-equipped melee character should easily be able to dispatch two at once. I couldn't pull succesfully in the round room at the back of the den, though. Rogues may wish to bring a friend.

Occasionally these guys drop a carapace that begins a rather simple item quest located in the same area.

Beware, even the neutral mobs will attack you if you are engaging in combat with another Silithid within what appears to be at least 25 or so yards! I found the thrown weapon trick suggested above failed to work here.

If you're one of those classes that can't handle adds very well, consider skipping this part of the quest (Get your parts and move on out). These things assist from very far away and it's not uncommon for a fight with single Silithid in the middle of nowhere to end up with you swarmed by five.

You might be lucky when you first get to the cave and find an Invader.. Kill him and then wait forever for a respawn. You DO have to kill the drones in the cave to spawn the Invaders. Watch their movement patterns and hit one when the others are far away as possible. I killed 2 groups of 2 this way plus, an unaviodable group of 4 that rushed out of the central area egg chamber.
After that 3 Invaders spawned (1 + 2) plus a lvl 36 elite Ravager in the egg chamber (the circular area in the cave).
The cave complex is very small with only 2 spurs off the entrance - pick your time and place and, as long as you can kill 2-3 lvl 33-34 mobs you'll be fine. Bonus - you get to open the chest in the left hand spur.
Did this solo as lvl 34 shadow priest this evening.

Did this as a 34 mage, the searchers and drones can be picked off around the edges of the digsite, the hard part come when you get the invaders,as the den has quite a few drones around which come to help if you attack anything,i found the best way was to pick off one drone at a time,if you get adds just kill that one drone then run, come back, rinse and repeat till all the drones outside the cave are dead, then you can pick off the inaders one by one, there aren't many drones inside, and i only had 1 add the whole time i was killing invaders, but 1 add shouldn't be a problem for anyone.

what I'm saying is clear out the drones, and the Invaders will respawn.

This quest took ridiculously long for me to complete, I could only find one invader in the entire area, I searched inside the hive and all around the silithid area for any others and I couldn't find another one no matter how hard I looked. I had to wait for that one invader to respawn after I killed it each time and it takes a long time to respawn. They should either increase the number of invaders in the area or decrease the number you have to kill in the quest.

Just solo'd this as a lvl 32 Shammy. It can be done at this low lvl if you are patient and careful. As a per the previous post the Drones and Searchers can be found around the dig, all I can say is be careful and don't aggro to many.

The Invaders are another matter they were all lvl 35 and took some careful pulling and long waiting. One Invader definetly spawns in front of the entrance and thats the one I pulled, along in the beginning with one just inside the cave.

When pulling make sure you have cleared the path it takes of any Drones and Searchers as if you don't they will all attack you and that's when its time to run.

Also don't fall into the dig site itself and aggro something because it's no fun running from 10 mobs :).

Don't believe that crap about the Hive Drones not attacking. As soon as they catch wind of you beating down the Invader, everything in the room aggros. The only chance you may have to avoid this is if you run directly to the Invader and try to fight it in the corner where the others are farthest.

Also, there are still only two - maybe they spawn alternately to the Hive Drones?

Edit: Confirmed - kill the Hive Drones and there is a chance that more Invaders will spawn in their place.

Soloed this as a lvl 33 Warlock with minion. While doing this quest I picked up a carapace from one of the silithids, it opened up to a new quest Parts of the Swarm to be done in parallel with this one. You pick up body parts from the killed Silithids, and then take them back to the NPC at the Crossroads. It yields 2750xp and another quest to go back to Orgrimmar.
