Forked Mudrock Tongue (8)

Description

I'm working on a dish I call "Mudrock Soup and Bugs." I still need the major ingredients, and... well, I don't think I'd last long trudging through Dustwallow Marsh!

So, <name>, can you do some hunting for me? First, I need the tongues of Mudrock turtles. You can find Mudrocks along the coast, mostly around the bay.

But I don't want just any tongues! I hear that the tongues of some Mudrocks are forked...

They say the forked tongues have a distinct flavor, and I want that flavor in my dish...

Ok, here's an all encompassing post with everything you need to know to complete the Mudrock Soup and Bugs (Forked Mudrock Tongue) quest.

I solo'ed this quest as a full fire spec level 37 human mage. The tongues drop rate is not very high, but the quest is not hard at all, and the level 35-40 Mudrock Tortoises/Burrowers/Spikeshells are quite easy to kill.

Receiving the quest:

Go to the Mage's Quarter in Stormwind, and enter the Blue Recluse pub. You will get a quest called 'Morgan Stern' from a barman.

Travel to the Wetlands, then take the boat on your left side as you face the ocean to Theramore.

Once in Theramore, find the inn at 66, 45 (Northmost point of Theramore) and speak with Morgan. He will complete the quest, and you will begin the Mudrock Soup and Bugs quest. You will get 700 experience for completing this part of the quest, and 28 Stormwind experience.

Directions:

To get to the Dreadmurk Shore (where the tortoise are) go to co-ordinates 64, 41.

If you do not have co-ordinates, as soon as you leave Theramore and cross the bridge, take a sharp right until you hit the beach. North, up the beach, you will find the Mudrocks.

Drop rate:

I killed 19 Mudrocks to get the 8 tongues needed. Each Mudrock gave an average of 230 experience (I am level 37). This experience adds up to: 4370 experience.

Bonus:

If you go about 61, 27 (halfway up the shore), and look across the sea, there is a little Mirefin hut surrounded by about 5 Mirefins. At my time there, there was a chest. The hut is a chest spawn point, so check if there is one. If there is, you will have to kill 1 Mirefin on his own infront of the hut, and 2 at once who defend the chest. Then, reap the rewards. I received (among some foods) 'Formula: Enchant Shield - Stamina'.

Alternative directions:

You do not have to go to the beach to get the Mudrocks. Instead of taking a sharp right out of Theramore, take a sharp left and you get to a bay with alot of tiny islands. There are Mudrock Burrowers around there, but I don't advise doing the quest here, as there are also some level 40 beasts which cause some annoyance. Co-ords for this are 62, 47.

Experience total:

Stormwind -> Theramore (Speak with Morgan): 700exp
Killing Mudrocks: 4370
Quest completion: 2850

Total experience: 7920

Reputation total:

Stormwind -> Theramore (Speak with Morgan): 28 rep
Quest completion: 275 rep

Total reputation: 303

(Please remember all this is based on me being level 37. If you are less than 37, you will probably get more, and if you are higher you will probably get less).

Have fun.

I was out here last night doing some grinding and spotting for a 33 Druid just in case they got into trouble when 46Elite Coral Shark came out of the water and aggro'd the Druid. We ran up onto a hill over the beach, and sure enough the thing was fully out of the water and on the beach as we watched it search around for us. I didn't think they'd actually leave the water, but they do and I wished that I'd gotten a screenshot of it. A rare occurance I would guess, but keep your eyes open and don't afk near the edge of the water in this area.

Erm, I remember when I did this quest that I got a crappy drop rate too, around 50 kills to get the 8 tongues. Maybe some servers give better drop rates than others on these mobs?

Head up and down the coast North of Theramore. The turtles are level 36-37, and the droprate is fairly low, so you'll be killing a lot of them.

They do drop the Thick Scaly Tails and Speckled Shell Fragments, though, so it's not all that bad of a grind. They're gray, but they sell for a decent amount to vendors.

Once you get to town whether from flight or boat exit through the gates and cross the bridge and go directly to the right (or the north west coast) and go along the shore you'll find them up and down there lvls 35-38 Dropped about one ever 2-3 kill for me.

Dont go left where there are little islands speckled in the water. The ones there in the water are 41-43 and other aggro mobs in the water with them.

Kill the turtles (Mudrock Spikeshells)they are just to the right of Theramore Isle on the Dreadmurk Shore they are nutral so do not attack in numbers you do not have to pull them and there drop rate was over 50% for me. 8 forked Mudrock tongues from 13 kills.

For those who wants easier turtles, go to 61,8 ... it's a passage between two small islands.. and many turtles walking back and forth..&nbsp there are also many turtles on the walk there if you move along the coast, so you have a good chance to complete ur quest, or at least almost complete this quest, by the time you arrive.

Anyhow, at lvl 37 I got 2850 xp.

Good luck.

Patience is the key to this easy quest. You can find the Mudrock Spikeshell along the coast East of Theramore. They go almost all the way up to the Barrens! Defias Rummagers and murlocs will probably get in your way, but being a druid, (DRUID POWER!!!) I could easily prowl around them. They dropped a Forked Mudrock Tongue about every 5-7 kills. Extremely easy at level 44. . . (LOL) The turtles are normally 35-36. I saw one 37. Again, patience is the key.

Painful quest since the drop rate is so low. When i did this quest, its about a 31% drop rate (8/26 Mobs), some of the mobs leave empty loots as well. Overall it took me about 30 mins+ to do this quest.

I've killed a ton of Mudrock Turtoise they don't seem to drop forked tongues at all.

Mudrock Spikeshell drops them.

Can be quite tedius if you don't know this as there is a lot of Turtoise on the beach.

instead of swimming across to the bay or going all the way around, simply go to the eastern shorline as soon as you get out of the city ( coords 64,42) and you'll get the tongues to drop for you right away. I got all eight tongues right in a row, no sweat. Hope this helps.

I did this quest at lvl 39. The percentage drops listed on this website are inaccurate I think. I think the fact that these items only drop if you have the quest skews the percentages. I got all off the spikeshells, which according to this website drop about 5% of the time. I estimated more like 30%. I went up the NE beach from Theramore and got all 8 in about 20 mins. I went up and then back down. My 2cp worth...

Watch out if you swim underwater for any lvl?Sharks! A big shock I can tell you! One minute happily mudrock hunting...next dead!

This is a great quest. I found it difficult to get them to drop but the xp is good for a lvl35 hunter and pet, the drops are good and the skinning great too. All round fun and games except for sharks

drop rate was insanely low low low. many turts dropped nothing at all. had to kill maybe 100 over two days.

thats the bad news. good news is if you knock a few down every time you are rested, i got 500exp plus 180 rested per most turts, especially the lvl 37 ones. i was at lvl 35.

did a few in the water, never saw the above mentioned sharks.

kind of boring quest but ok exp points if u include the turtles.

one thing i learned, the turtle armor is pretty much immune to my lvl 35 bear, and to explosive traps, etc.

This quest was very easy, with no trouble and good Heavy Leather yield and xp. I didn't even need to use coords for it...just hang a right outside the gate, go thru the cemetary and down to the shore. I never even set foot in the water so the shark wasn't an issue. I just ran up the coast killing turtles. The drop rate was pretty good. Blizzard must of heard the complaints and the respawn rate was good. I ran up and ran back and got them all in around 15 minutes. No aggro, no nothing. VERY good place for leatherworkers..

This quest was actually a lot of fun! The shells dropped for me with fair regularity, and at lvl 36, I found a great grind spot.

If you have leatherworking and skinning, you can skin these turtles (usually the 37-8's) for turtle scales to make mail.

Grind + Farm + Rested xp = Joy

Also, the speckled shell fragments that turtles tend to drop are worth a fair chunk of change at vendors.

It is interesting how the quests vary for some. For a 37 rogue, this was ridiculously easy. However, I am glad it was because the drop rate was atrocious for me.

Died once because I thought I was cute and tried to fight two at once to kill time.

This is a really easy quest the turtles are non aggressive until you atack.
Just go out the gate to your right go through the graveyard to the beach and work the whole strecth of the beach there.
You'll see murlocs on the other side of the bay but they're lazy don't worry about them.
You'll encounter plenty of turtles walking into the water as well as walking out of the water.
No need to get wet once unless you wish to brave the waters for the reef shark that I did indeed see chase 2 lost misinformed souls.
And yes it comes right upto the beach with-in touching distance this thing is aggressive.
So stick in a toe lose a foot!
Happy Hunting

Turtles are lvl 35-36, so this quest is really easier than its level may suggest. You only shall care about Defias walking around (althought they're not a problem theirselves, it may be bad getting'em as adds). If you see a Defias, I suggest you killing it before of getting a turtle, or disguising it.

It may be only a coincidence, but I had 75% drop on lvl 36 ones, and 36% on lvl 35 ones. I also got 3 turtle meat, and some gray stuff. Not a bad quest, at all.

I was able to solo this with my pet, both of us are at level 35.
just head north east from the entrance/exit. they are level35-38. you could also head south but the problem with that is you run into other things that are aggressive. the ones to the south are level 40-43, so they are a lot harder. i suggest just heading to the north east. about 61-25 but the drop rate is painfully low.
