Pristine Crawler Leg (12)

Description

Another component of my new recipe is the shelled leg of a giant crab. And the crabs they have in Dustwallow -- Muckshells they call them -- just won't do! I'm afraid the only suitable crabs live far away, in the Swamp of Sorrows.

The shell of the crab leg is a key element of the dish's presentation so I need pristine, unscarred legs. An adult crab might only have one or two such legs, and I need a lot in order to research my dish.

So, <name>... are you willing to travel?

First off, the quest does NOT call them muckdwellers. he says the ones in theramore are called muckdwellers. the ones you are looking for are called slit crawlers and monstorous crawlers. the slit crawlers are level 40 and 41, the massive crawlers that i saw were all level 44. try not to go down to the southern shore area if you are alone, and don't have a pet, and happen to be under level 40. it's UNSAFE. there are dragonkin(40-45 elite), and murlocs(40-44), and spiders(40-41), and high level KOS humanoids(over 49) all about down there. unfortunatly, once i got down there, i was stuck down there, so i eventually suceeded. it took around 30-35 minutes at level 39 with my hunter, and the payoff was dismal compared to the effort to get to swamp of sorrows in the first place, and to trek across it(it appears almost all horde/KOS/dragonkin, so it's not kind to alliance folk. :-/&nbsp )
i would hold off soloing or partying it until level 41, for best results.

You have to go to from Dustwallow to the Eastern Kingdoms, Swamp of Sorrows. That's why he asks if you're "willing to travel", it's a far away quest. The coordinates in the previous posts both correspond to areas near islands, but the pristine legs come from monsters in the Swamp of Sorrows, NOT Dustwallow . So take the ship back to the Eastern Kingdoms, from Menethil > Iron Forge > Stormwind > Darkshire, then walk along the road going EAST, keeping to the path on the LEFT, walk THROUGH Deadwind pass to the other side, you'll come out on the west side of the Swamp of Sorrows, in order to complete the quest, you need to go to the other side of the area into the water, where, at the locations mentioned above, you'll find your slit crab dealies.

Go to Darkshire in Duskwood, take the road East out of town.

That leads to Deadwind Pass.

East across this zone leads to the Swamp of Sorrows.

easy to have this done under 5 min!

Whether it's easy to accomplish this quest, which as I remember from the last time one of my characters did it, involves gathering of the quest items on the east coast of the area and your recommendation is to come in from the west side of the area, depends entirely on one's level and abilities when attempting to navigate to the appropriate area to perform the requisite activities. If you are just finding out that you need to follow those directions to access the Swamp of Sorrows, you are probably unaware that Alliance players will almost immediately encounter Stoneard Scouts and Stonard Explorers, marked PVP, patrolling the paths on the west side of the Swamp of Sorrows. If you don't want to be flagged for PVP for fighting them, they need to be avoided. And that's just the first of your worries for taking this path to the quest area. The path soon branches into paths leading southeasterly and northeasterly. The southeasterly path will take you smack dab into Stonard. If you get too near it one or more level 65 Stonard Grunt (Bosses) will come out and attack and you'll be quickly dead. Again if you attempt to fight them, you'll be flagged for PVP (and dead). As soon as you spy it, detour to the northeast. The northeastern path leads into Fallow Sanctuary. which you'll also want to avoid as you'll get mobbed on your way through. So in either case you will be traveling off of the pathways and across country and likely agroing one battle after another with Swamp Jaguars, and Sorrow Spinners in the jungle, and Sawtooth Crocolisks, Snappers, and Tangled Horrors in the waterways. You may encounter the Pool of Tears in east central Swamp of Sorrows, which is generally quite safe to swim across the top, skirting the Temple of Atal' Hakkar in the center of the water. Once you reach the Misty Reed Strand, which forms the northeastern coast of the Swamp of Sorrows, be careful of the level 43 Monstrous Crawlers if you decide to attack them, as they can be problematic for lower level characters on this quest. So bottom line is if the quest is red or orange to you, tread very carefully when going this way. If it's green or gray to you, then it should be relatively easy to get across the area (and you probably already have the map filled in for this area, having been there before...).

You have to kill "silt crawlers" https://classicdb.ch/?npc=922
or "monsterous crawlers" https://classicdb.ch/?npc=1088
located along the eastern coast of Swamp of Sorrows.
I found the most around 95, 48 but they can be found anywhere along the water, they have a good drop rate.

Another interesing point for those who read the posts too quickly (like me) and miss that the 85,16 location is NOT in Dustwallow (where you get the quest):

That location in Dustwallow will put you just East of Alcaz Island.&nbsp Home to level 59-61 elite guardians of the imprisoned King Wyrnn of Stormwind.&nbsp Not good swimming water :-)

See this discussion as well.

Make sure to head over to the Swamp of Sorrows in the Eastern Kingdoms before locating 85,16.

I found that the easiest place to farm these little sods was around 93,40.

There are no crocs around to pester you and the drop rate was just a good as any other location.

That said, if you are farming XP, then by all means go with the crocs.

They drop off Silt Crawlers (Level 40~ Beast) and Monstrous Crawler (Level 43~ Beast), they're located at the eastern coast of Swamp of Sorrows, along with some level 41~ Crocs.

Silt Crawlers drop Big-mouth Clams, which contains Zesty Clam Meat. 10 of those are needed for the Artisan Cooking quest: https://classicdb.ch/?quest=6610
So it'd be a good idea to save those Zesty Clam Meats if you are leveling Cooking.

Another quest that takes action on the same coast is Driftwood: https://classicdb.ch/?quest=1398

Started this as an early Lv 39 Rouge and almost reached 40, probably will when i turn in these legs. I found the best way for me to reach the Swap of Sorrows (SoS) was to fly to Darkshire then walk east from there. I thought Lakeshore would be easier but there were mountains blocking the way. The nice thing was that as long as you stayed on the path there were no mobs to contend with until I reached SoS. Within SoS there are a number of quests you can pick up from a small camp in the northwestern part of the map. You may as well do these while you're there because it's such a long ways to go, at least for walkers like me. There are a few 40 to mid-40s (including elites) close to the temple but they are easy enough to avoid. The lockboxes around the outside of the temple are a good place to practice lockpicking as well. Lots of humanoids to beat up on and a number of elementals in a couple of places that drop between 1-3 s each (usually 2 s). I think it might be tough for someone in the low 30's but very doable for those mid-30 and higher. A great place to pick up XP and assorted odd and ends. The crabs themselves aren't tough as they drop well but there's not much point going after the monster ones that are couple of levels above the others. They're just too tough to kill to be worth it. There wee a few ambushed panthers (shadowpanthers?) near the shore but they were easy enough to detect and deal with - I even go a shadowhide out of one. I'd suggest plutting SoS into the search fucntion of Thotbot that looks for "Quest involves killing in" in order to maximize your experience there. gl

Yepyep, I just did this as a level 37 Druid (feral), and while it wasn't entirely a walk in the park, it was definitely doable and good XP (3000+).
- Yes, go to Swamp of Sorrows in the Eastern Kingdoms (directions are above in another post) before you start looking. I dunno how exactly that place is tied to Kalimdor, but they seem to like it (Desolace quests send you there too).
- Follow the road, heading northish when it forks. (Level 40ish ogres here and there, and various high 30s spiders, jaguars and crocodiles in the swamp).
- Once you get to the place with the Lost One things (Fallow something), be on your toes...I mostly prowled through there in Catform (there's an escort quest here you can get from the guy in the cage, but do not try to do this on your own. You'll get owned. Cause like all the moronic escort quest mobs, he walks smack into the middle of all the surrounding monsters.)
- Once past the Fallowsomething, watch out for level 39 shadow panthers (rogue-like, will unstealth as you get close). The place is crawling with them, trying to fight one I immediately got 2 adds and barely made it just running for the coast.
- Coast: I did fine killing the level 40/41 crawlers, 41 crocs when in the way, and dodging the 42 crocodiles (and running northwards like hell when I did draw one). If you use ranged attacks on the crawlers, be careful to not back up into the swamp and into the panthers.
- They all drop 1-2 legs and the ones at the very northern point of the shore were starting to respawn by the time I'd moved on just a short bit, so you definitely shouldn't have to stray too far south.

Good luck!

experienced a minor hiccup along the way... fell off a bridge on the deadwind pass... had to swim to flat area then run past 10 lvl ? ogres. died twice.

if i hadnt been stupid this would have gone without a hitch. getting to the beach was easy. mana shielded a few times.

almost died once because i aggroed a lvl 40 crab thing and a lvl 41 croc at the same time. this is tough on a lvl 39 :D made it tho with evocation, and mana shield. *nods*

so as long as your not stupid, you can probably solo this at 37 or 38. as long as your good at PvE and figvhting things well above your lvl.

Have fun!

From Theramore I flew to Ratchet. Took boat to BB and stayed there overnight. Flew to Darkshire. Rode on mount through the pass, up the top road East all the way to the coast. From the coast I walked South for them. They all dropped one, three dropped two. I got plenty of meat for my pet and scored a Black pearl to sell on AH. I than hearthed back to Theramore.
