The Rethban Gauntlet

Enter the Rethban Caverns, reach the first fork, and return to Yorus Barleybrew within the time allowed.

You must not die and release your spirit.
  •
Enter the Rethban Caverns

Description

I call my challenge the Rethban Gauntlet. To pass the trial, all you must do is enter the Rethban Caverns, to the first fork, then return here. Easy! Except there are a few wrinkles...

You have to return within an hour.

There are whole heaps of Redridge Gnolls in the way.

Before you start, you have to take a swig of my family's signature drink: Barleybrew Scalder!

So what do you say? The Rethban Caverns are in the foothills north of Lakeshire. Are you ready to run the Rethban Gauntlet?

The cave is at 20, 27

This quest is easily doable at level 20 with no help.

I found some great tips somewhere else that helped a lot.

The coords 20,27 are perfect.

At level 21 (Warrior) I took the advice to scout the route, and clear a few mobs before taking the quest. Go up the hill towards Bellygrub's garden, and then in the middle of the garden, turn right and climb the hill.

I found 2 mobs on the plateau there, spread apart enough to kill one at a time.

Going north, sticking to the left, I was able to avoid the small camp, and find the path heading up and left, between the rocks, just north of the tree. This goes around the tent camp, and to the ravine leading to the cave.

I found one mob in the ravine, and took him out. I took out two at the cave door.

Then ran back, mob free, got drunk, turned around and ran back to the cave. I had to kill one mob on the plateau, and one just inside the cave, before going far enough inside to ding the quest, and then run home clean.

Just under 5 minutes - and only that long because the booze really is disorienting, and I took it slow to be sure I stuck to the right route. There certainly was enough time in the hour available to clear the whole path, and also to wait for the booze debuff to wear off, but hey ... someone thought we should do it drunk, so that's how I wanted to try it.

Excellent fun quest.

Before you accept the quest go ahead and run the path to the cave and kill the gnolls the are on top of the rock...there are two kill both of them (to get on top to kill the mystic you have to go up the right side of the rock, there is not a way up on the left side) and then go closer to the cave and kill as many as you think you need to get in, then go back and accept the quest. You can get in without having to fight...then you can run out. 6 min completion, 1300xp.

important note: when you have the debuff, the level of the mobs you see is lower than they are otherwise. I tried to run through all of them, because they seemed much lower than me, but then i died and ressed up and saw like 5 level difference. other thing is the distance you see, it's bigger than it is anyway.

The shield sucks but that is just step two.&nbsp If you take the third and final quest from the shield maker you get to have him build you a piece of armor that adds 30 rage for warriors.

I didn't know you could get to the cave through bellygrub's garden, so I took the long route north of Lakeshire.

Do yourself a favor and don't do that unless you want to make this quest actually a gauntlet -_-

Another small tip is to go in to your video options and turn off full screen glow effect for this quest. You will still have the disorienting effect of swerving, but it removes the screen blur. I remember using this is ZG waaaaay back in the day. Good luck!

Path isn't really at the west end, its more like just above the town a bit west. I didn't think it was that obvious, but I found it. At lvl 20, went in to the cave carefully, pulling one at a time with my gun and then smashing them to pieces. I was allowed to bandage, careful not to die. Cave isn't a cake walk at lvl 20, there was some silver and two tin deposits as a small bonus.

Did this at level 20 and made it within 10 minutes, all you need to do is enter the cave (entrance at 20,28) and walk up the first fork you see (straight ahead) like it says so in the quest.

On the way to the cave you can avoid most mobs and those you can't are killed quickly. On the way back most are still dead and you can drop off the ridge into lakeshire.

did this in 2 minutes. Just left the inn, took a right, past the herbalist house, and up the cliff. hugged the wall on the left, killed 2 gnolls to reach first fork, then ran back. Shockingly simple. Surprised to see it segue itself into a lvl 25 elite quest.

and yet another tip, if you hold down the right mouse button it automatically faces you in the direction your camera is facing. In other words your character no longer randomly turns while drunk, and you only have to worry about random sidestepping instead of random turning.

I finished this quest in 3 mins (20 warrior). The path was almost clear because other people had to kill the brutes and mystics for a quest. However the shield was bad but I think I know why. Maybe because the quest was far too easy? By the way the coordinates are 20, 27.

The shield is kinda lame.&nbsp I already had one identical to it except mine increased spirit instead of strength.

lvl 20, go to the west side of the lake, and use the path up from there, stay as close to the mountan as possible, any lvl 20 can stay out of the aggro range of the group in the camp, charge the 2 bastards near the entrance. (they are not hard) and go in, if you have something to pull with, throwing knives or a bow/gun or if you are just carefull, you can pull the lvl 21 mobs to you easy, just have to kill a couple to get deep enough in.

And about the silly drink, just take a break while it wears off...

if you fail the quest once, abandon it and try again. I did this quest at lvl 20, it was relativly easy. Just take a right upon leaving the inn, then go past the herb ladys house. Then go until you see Bellygrub, and take a right again. Then go straight ahead, and hug the wall at all times. You will have to kill a few gnolls, unless someone's grinding in the area.
