Heartswood

Retrieve the Heartswood from Ashenvale and bring it to Gakin the Darkbinder in the Mage Quarter of Stormwind.
Heartswood

Description

In preparation for your coming, I used my sight to look over the world and through the mists of time. I have found what it is you seek.

In the War of the Ancients, two lovers fell together in battle. Where they took their last breaths, a tree known as the heartswood grew, a symbol of their undying love.

That should be enough to tempt a succubus. You will find it in the ruins of Ordil'Aran in the northwestern part of the forest of Ashenvale.

it was such a pain going to ashenvale. i soloed it at lv 20 but died 15 times in the process. The entrance to Ashenvale from the Barrens was blocked by some guards so i had to climb the mountain on the east to get past them, but dropped right in a group of demons. Once you're in Ashenvale, just follow the path going west until you find Maestras Post. If you go northeast, there is a tree by the mountain. This is the heartswood that you need to complete this quest.

This is suprisingly easy to get for how 'heavily' defended it is. I went in at level 22, stayed close to the wall approaching from Astranaar and only had to kill a single mob, sneaking by everything else without aggro'ing. The Heartswood has a large radius that you can use it from. Stick close to the wall and use it as soon as you're within range.

This is how I did it. I died once on the way and I soloed it as lvl 20 without any bigger problems:

I started the quest in Stormwind, traveled to Westfall and ran to the south-west and jumped into the water. I put the breathbuff on and started to swin south, under water. I got to Booty Bay around 5-10 minutes later, and I had no problems on the way since I never did go up to the surface. I fixed the flightpath as I anyway were there. Took the boat to Ratchet. Ran directly south-west from Ratchet, to 49, 57, and had to kill around 4 mobs(lvl 16-18) on the way. I choosed to stay off the roads since I didnt wanted to be killed by hordes. It took me about 5 min from Ratchet to the questgiver.

I used my HS and ended up at IF. Since I hadnt the flightpath to Wetlands I flyed to Thelsamar and ran to the harbor at Wetlands. I fixed the flightpath when I got there, just to have it done.

I took the boat to Auberdine and then ran south into Ashenvale. There I had to kill some mobs and here I died once cause of a stupid misstake. But I had my Soulstone so I ressed directly. I killed about 5-10 mobs, one at the time and then I got to the tree at the coords 31, 31 and looted it. I used my HS again to IF and headed for SW directly after to finish the quest.

Ps. A recommandation is to do this quest late at night, if you are on a pvp realm, since not so many hordes are online in The Barrens. I ran into The Barrens about 01:00 in the night.

Ok, heres how it's done...once you get to the part where you see all the warlocks with their imps and voidwalkers, all you have to do is stick to the right...and after you walk past that glowing stone, theres a little hill to your right, climb up and there will be a big root sticking out of the ground, just mouse around at the branch thats near, and the gear icon will turn orange, its as easy as that.&nbsp I did this without even attacking a single enemy around&nbsp there.

Also note that the heartswood tree is protected by a large group of 18-20 Dark Strand warlocks/mages/rogues(?). Heavily guarded.

I thought this quest was going to be a lot harder than it really was.&nbsp The long walks and finding everything was the most dificult part for me--that and I had to call on a lvl 60 ally for backup when high-lvl Horde players kept going PvP and killing me in the Barrens (I was lvl 22 at the time).&nbsp Aside from that, this quest isn't so much difficult as it is time-consuming.&nbsp

I'm on a pvp server so I found the easiest way to get around was get to menethil in the wetlands set your stone at the inn and get fp then take the boat on the left (to dustwallow/theramore). get the fp here. when you exit theramore make a right, your going up the coast to the aliance outpost (I forget the name) you will have to contend with several murlock packs you just cast unending breath and swim well around them or run through em using VW and sacrafice him when needed (I swam). at the outpost there is a path that leads to the barrens take it and stay close to the mountains on the left you will see the tent on your right opposite of the mountains. get the quest then stone back to menethil. now take the boat on the right (to darkshore/auberdine). get fp here. head to heartwood location given above. go to astranaar and get fp there (just cause it's so close) now stone to menethil or if your stone cooldown isn't up fly to theramore and take boat to menethil. now fly to SW or IF/tram/SW. then go get your succy. (dont forget to reset your stone to IF or SW or whatever)

If you come at the tree from the southwest (out of Maestra's Post) along the edge of the mountain / trees and keep trying to climb up that mountain and trees as you come along the edge there you can get up behind the root without ever once getting any aggro - get the Heartswood, and leave (either the same path, or hearthstone back to Stormwind and turn it all in).

Just a small piece of advice. When you enter the barrens. Aim for the mountain on your right. Go to the top and follow the ridge until you are near the coordinates. This way you can stay off the road, which as you know is full of hordes... I soloed it this way as level 20 without any difficulties. It should though be mentioned that I did it at 3 a.m (less hordes around! d:)

When approaching the border of Ashenvale and the Barrens, you can go to the left of the gate, around the building that is there, and there will be a broken fence which is unguarded.&nbsp This is how to get past the guards.&nbsp Stupid Orcs.

This is easy you don't need a 60-thats cheating!

First to get to the seer work your way to ratchet then climb the mtns south heading to next mtn near raptors and climb that mtns killing the lvl 13 raptors enroute to the part of the mtn that goes down to where the seer is.

For the heartwood you just take your void and fight one warlock and his void at a time by having your void attack the other void while you take out the warlock. Work your way north clearing one warlock and void at a time, then the warriors guarding the tree taking them out one at time too-wait before the warrior gets near before having your void attack it or your void will pull the other warriors onto you.By the time you get the wood the first warlock and it's void will be back so don't run away blindly once you get wood.

I would have your hearthstone set for astranaar before entering the barrens unless you already have the ratchet FP then you can fly out of the barrens then have your hearthstone set for Stormwind.

Good luck

I solo'd it last night at lvl 20.&nbsp Picked my fights on the right side.&nbsp Didn't get close enough to draw aggro from anyone exept who I was fighting.&nbsp Knocked out about 3 of them with my VW. Went to the tree and had to fight one more mob (Dark something, Warrior), but beat him easily.&nbsp Then got the heartwood.&nbsp Once I got in the area, it took 3-5 min to finish.

Did this as a 20, boated to Theramore, ran thru Dustwallow, died once at the very end cause of stupid stealth spider, but rezed with my soulstone, kept running and found the dude for this quest.
Ran up north eastish (watch the Crossroads!) and got the fp to Ratchet and boated to Booty Bay and got the fp there too, while I could. Then I ran back up, got the fp in Astranaar. After all the fun fp getting, I found the coords spot on (31, 31), It's in the NE part of the area for anyone who doesn't have the map mod.
I just stayed to the right, pulled carefully, had my void engage their minion. I only had to kill 3 ppl and 2 minions.

I went on foot to Menethil Harbor from Ironfordge, picking up my flight path there. Took the boat to Theramore. Made my way through Dustwallow Marsh and the Barrens...Carefully! I actually had more trouble with the Alligator MOBs, catching me from behind, allong the way, than I did with any wHorde.

As soon as I talked to Takar, I Hearthstoned out of there, back to Goldshire and safety. Gryphed back to Menethil Harbor, took the boat to Auberdine and down to Ashenvale from there. By the way 31,31 was a good set of numbers for me.......very helpful!

Once I got the Heartwood I hearthstoned out of there again to Goldshire and hopped and skipped my merry way up to Stormwind )

I guess the fact that I've played horde made it easier, but it's far quicker to just run through the barrens. Avoid the outposts, and take the hole in the wall into the Ashenvale zone. From there it's just a straight run. Took me like 12-15 minutes to run it, and then used voidwalker to distract the last two mobs while I looted the tree.
where is this hole in the wall? the guards are killing me every time i try and get in through the Gold Road or w/e it is from the barrens. do i have to climb over the mountains or something?

LOL Okay I'm back, and I'm an older and wiser warlock.

If you want a safer way to get to Ashenvale, don't take the boat from Booty Bay... rather, travel North of Ironforge into the Wetlands. Follow the path until you get to Menethil harbor.

There are 2 boats that leave from Menethil harbor one goes to Theramore (Human base) and the other takes you to a little Night Elven town near Darnassus. It will be MUCH easier to travel to access Ashenvale from the North than from the South, as I did. ^_^

To summon the succubus for the first time, Solendar, complete the Heartwood part in Stormwind. Then, go down to the summoning circle and defeat the succubus to show her you're a warlock worthy of serving. :-)

FYI, there is a very easy way to cross the border between the Barrens and Ashenvale. There are two towers on the road with several guards, lv 40 I think. If you are going north, the right side of the gate goes into a small mountain. If you go to the other side of that mountain (so, east of the gate), you should see a wall. A section of the wall is knocked down, and there is a burned seige engine at the break of the wall. You can run through there, and there are no guards on either side.

For any Aliance Warlocks trying to do this, I found an easy way. First of all, you have to do this at an off time (4:00 AM). That way you won't get ganked by tones of Horde. Make your way to Menethil Harbor, and set you hearth at the inn. Go to the docks take the southern boat. Once in the Dustwallow Marsh, follow the path until you reach the Barrens (HORDE Territory). Travel North towards Camp Taurajo (Warning Horde). I only ecountered 1 troll Hunter, and he was too busy hunting. Pass CT, and go up the path until you see tents & 2 humans. Grab the quests and hearth out of there. Or if brave enough, run to Ratchet and get the flight path, take the boat to Booty Bay, and use the flight path there. Now back in Menthil Harbor, take the Northern boat to Auberdine. Follow the soutern path to Ashenvale. If you reach Meastra's Post, you've gone too far. I ran out of time to finnish the quest, so I camped in Astrenar's inn. I'll update this post when the quest is complete.
Update:
From MP, head North East to The Ruins of Ordil'Aran. Fight your way throught to the lagre tree to the East (looked like a giant stone to me). Activate/attack the Heartswood tree until you get the Heartswood. To get the Heartswood the quick way, send in your voidwalker to attack the lock guarding the tree. while he's busy, activate the tree. Once you have the item, hearth back to MH. The rest is easy. Fly back to SW, go to the slaughtered lamb. Grab the next part of the quest. Head down to where you first summoned your voidwalker, and summon your sucubus.
Happy questing.

Once you get to the fork in the road that leads to Camp Taurajo stop and turn and face east. He is in the tent farthest out. Just a few lvl 19-21 beast to kill in order to get to him.
