Journey to the Marsh

Speak with Tabetha.

Description

Now it is time for you to earn your mage's wand. To begin this quest, speak with the human hermit Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh. You will find her shack deep in the marsh, west of Theramore.

Speak with her, for her knowledge is vast. You will find Tabetha's cottage west of Theramore, and just north of the Stonemaul Ruins.

This quest leads to 2 quests:

[Hidden Secrets] (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1949)
- Speak to Magus Tirth (http://classicdb.ch/?npc=6548) in The Shimmering Flats
- He will give you the quest Get the Scoop (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1950) walk to "Plucky" Johnson (http://classicdb.ch/?npc=6626) and type /beckon and he will change to human form. Talk to him and you get the password.
- Get back to Magus and get the next quest Rituals of Power (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1951) you have to get the book from Scarlet Monastry Library it's found at the start of the last corridor in a bookcase.

[Items of Power] (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1948)
- Get the Bolt Charged Bramble from gathering 10 Witherbark Totem Sticks (http://classicdb.ch/?item=7273) then bring it to Circle of Outer Binding. Use the Witherbark Totem Sticks in the middle of Circle of Outer Binding and get it from it. Return to Tabetha.

After you've done these 2 quests you get the last quest which contains the rewards: Mage's Wand (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1952)

I just did it at level 34 with no deaths.&nbsp

Before you start, throw up AI and Ice Armor.&nbsp The AI will give your Mana Shield more fuel, and the Ice Armor will give you a speed advantage once they hit you.

Put on your Mana Shield, and head to Tabetha, who is at 46,57.&nbsp Try your best to avoid confrontations with large groups of mobs, but don't stray too far off-course.&nbsp Use Blink to give yourself some extra distance, and Frost Nova to get yourself out of sticky situations.&nbsp Reapply Mana Shield whenever necessary, and find a quiet spot to sit and drink whenever your mana gets low.

For the run back, sprint west to the road, and follow it up to Brackenwall.&nbsp The Flight Master should provide you safe travels home.

Please note that this was written from the Horde perspective.&nbsp The run might be slightly different for Alliance.

Very tough - but there's more than one way to "win." Using Anonymous coordinates (thanks&nbsp jzubizareta), I just made a beeline for the shack from the Barrens. Did it as a 32 mage solo not even trying to kill anything (Couldn't have anyway.) Using Blink to gain several extra lengths, I made it only dying three times. There isn't much of a reward for the first part, and the follow-up quests require you to actually kill mobs. Hearthstone return trip.

Thanks for all the postings. Anonymous and it's contributers make this great game even better.

The best directions I have to find Tabetha:

Follow the road out of Theramore[it's the safest way] all the way around till it starts heading south. You'll go a good ways south, too. When you come to a crumbled stone tower on your left hand side, go just past it and head east into the swamp. Look for the large island that has a bay, it looks kind of like a reverse C. Tabetha's semi is at the northern curve of that island, and theres a dock out front with an orchard next door.

What the poster didn't mention is exactly where to climb out of the water onto land when "skirting the mountains." There are only a few places to climb out since the hills are steep. Tidefury Cove seems to be the best, right at the western tip of it (53,63). However, there are many level 42+ Muckshell mobs around, so unless you're fast you're likely to die at least once getting in there.

If someone has a better path when going the water route, I'd love to see it. Anyone level 38 or under who made it through without dying at least once is either lying or extremely lucky.

I did the quest at lv 35 without dying once, i came close though.

But yea, AI, mana shield, and some potions. Blink and frost nova your way through, and if you have it use blast wave because it dazes the mobs which gives you enough time to run away.

The coordinates are right. (46,57)

You don't need to run back, just teleport!

Good luck to all of you

Well I read all the posts but didn't read that if your doing this quest for a wand be preapred for two more. Once you reach Tabitha you have to then go to Shimmering Flats to talk to Magus Tirth to get the "Rituals of Power" book/knowledge and then to Arathi Highlands to kill Witherbark Trolls and get 10 Witherbark totem sticks from them. After you do that you have to take those to the Circle of outer binding (same zone) and let lightning strike them. Then you will have the Bolt charged bramble. Take these two things (book and bramble) back to Tabitha.......then you get your wand. I did this first part with lvl 34 mage died once. 46,57 is dead on for her. I came out of the water at 51,46 and ran across swamps straight to shack. Agro'd a couple spiders Nova, and blink and I was there. Now for the follow ons.

I crossed the bay and exited the water at 55,50, proceeded up the hill, there is a spider around that location, level 41, also the zeplin wreckage is around that location.&nbsp I done the usual shield, blink, frost nova... cold snap helps to be able to use frost nova again.&nbsp Anyhow, I am level 32 and made it to the shack without dieing.&nbsp I lost very little health in fact.&nbsp Very easy.

I got this WAY too early and tried it tonight as a lvl 35 mage. As another poster said - I did the suicide run through the marsh starting at a small outpost tower. Lucked into Tabetha's cabin. I'd gotten the next quest from a mage trainer at SW while there for something else which I thought was odd - would have figured the quests to be sequential.

anyway did all that and prepared to meet my doom on the way back through the marsh.

Heaven smiled on this poor mage and a high level warrior escorted me all the way back to the dock so I could return home. OK, he was a lvl 44 and laughed at the acid-throwing, mage-eating things in the marsh and sea. But I lived to try another day.

My advice - going through the marsh is easier than dealing with dragons and bring a big strong friend along!

Got this at 30, did it at 32. This is not a bright idea. There is no major reward and you can't even pick up the next quests at this level.

Highly recommend you wait until you are at least closer to 40 to do this. I ended up suicide running clear across the swamp to do it and then was disappointed.

Very nice it's 'soo easy' at level 30, but... what's the point, if you can't pick up the following 2 quests, because your level is too low to do that? Surely, the amazing 30xp can't be the reason for doing this...
Yea...i agree, kinda made me mad cause wtf?

I as a 37 mage made it to tabitha only dying once. I went south across the bay to deepfury cove via island hopping. If anything attacked me I polymorphed it and run. Also used freeze and blink at times.

From deepfury cove I headed north hugging the cliffs. Made it in under 15 minutes (all the while killing no beasts and with the mario theme song playing in the background)

Hehe Island hopping lol ! Polymorph, freeze and blink ftw !

This is really tough tho! My husband's pali and my mage were both 33 and had a really hard time getting across the swamp a few yards. Each beast took several minutes to kill and we barely got any xp for the time it took. I think we'll level a little before we come back to finish!
