Plagued Lands

Capture a living Rabid Thistle Bear and bring it back to Tharnariun.

Should you fail to capture a Rabid Thistle Bear and lose your trap, return to Tharnariun Treetender and request another trap.

Rabid Thistle Bear Captured
Provided Item:
Tharnariun's Hope

Description

A sickness spreads across the Darkshore, gripping the minds and bodies of all it touches.

The Thistle Bears have been hit the hardest by this plague. The once noble beasts are now an instrument of destruction - rabid and frenzied. I may have a cure for this ailment.

Take this trap to the forest and lay it on the ground. Any Rabid Thistle Bear that crosses the light shall become docile for a short time. Once the bear is docile, it shall follow you. Lead it back here, <name>.

I had the same problem with not be able to capture the bear even if it walked over the trap, until I noticed the quest log said I should capture a RABID thistle bear, and I was trying on a normal thistle bear... that should be what others are doing wrong too :]

These bears can be found south of the ruins of Ameth'Aran as well as north of Bashal'Aran. Easiest way to do this is get the bear to agro you then drop trap on ground at your feet and back away. You might take a few hits but bear will step through light. Then just head back to town for your payment.

You need to get a white "rapid thistle bear" or however it is spelled.. not a "thistle bear" which is brown... just walk south along the coast and when you come to the furbolgs camp there will be some rapid ones... just go close to them.. but in safe distance.. and place the trap.. when that is done a bear will come running to you... you dont even have to place the trap near the bear.. just close... and about where to find them.. if you dont know where the furbolgs camp is.. then just run along the coast south of auberdine and look in on land.. close to the beach you will find them!..
so.. good luck and happy hunting!

you were given a trap - it should be in your inventory. Just use it like you would any other object, but you have to be close enough. The bear WILL attack, and you WILL take damage, which will delay the 'casting' of the trap.

When it is finished, just lead it back.

The Rabid Thistle Bear will move faster than 100% run speed, however, a full length sprint (or other such speed ability) will cause the bear to disappear.

The quest reads, "Should you fail to capture a Rabid Thistle Bear and lose your trap, return to Tharnariun Treetender and request another trap.", but I found that, in the reading, "Should you fail to capture" means that losing the bear once you have captured it will not fail your quest and you may turn it in without the presence of the bear.

I hope this will prevent someone who had planned on using their Hearthstone from running all the way back to town.

For me it was suprisingly simple. I got to the bear as close as I could but on the safe distance without him starting to attack me and right clicked on the trap in the backpack (magenta sparkling bubble). The bear's label truned blue the same moment. He came close to me and stayed with me. He never stepped into the trap (it was some distance away from him). He never attacked me.

simply put the "pink globe" that you have in inventory on the floor and as soon as the bear walk on it, it is trap !

Err, okey ive seem to have come across a bug in this guest. I picked up the bear, then HS'ed back to Auberdine. I noticed that the bear wasnt with me, but i still could turn in the quest, so I did. Then after a min or so I saw the bear come running and started to follow me.. So even tho the quest was turned in and compleated, the bear kept on following.
I frapsed this, showing that the quest is turned in, rewarded and all, and Im clearly a rouge :P not a hunter.

edit: Sadly it despawned on me while writing this, so the "trap" thing is on a hidden timer i suppose

It is TOTALLY a _Rabid_ Thistle Bear that you need.&nbsp I spent six "traps" on the regular "Thistle Bears" and got nothing.&nbsp I found a couple Rabid Thistle Bears near the ruins of Ameth'Aran and it appears not to matter how you capture the bears.&nbsp I aggroed one, and as soon as I started fighting it, I whipped out the trap and *BAM* "Captured Rabid Thistle Bear"

Got a problem with this quest.

I'm a rogue in level 13. I capture the rabid thistle bear (a black one) and I can see its name over it in green, but when I return to the guy who gave me the quest, I don't have the "complete quest" button enabled.
Has this happened to anyone else or is just me?

Anyone knows what can I do?

Hey, It only works on rabid thistle bears and it is okay if they attack you they go through the trap and go docile. EASY! Just took me 10 times to realize I needed a rabid thistle bear.

I found the quest to be amazingly simple.&nbsp I ran south along the road to Ameth'Aran to where the spirits of the Highborne are.&nbsp Just south of that at coords 42,65 are plenty of Rabid Thistle Bears.

I got off the road and found one right there. Waited for him to walk the other way...went to that spot and used shadowmeld (I'm a Night Elf Warrior and did this quest at level 16).&nbsp When he came back into range I right clicked the trap...and bingo!

Ran the bear back to Tharnariun Treetender in Auberdine and completed the quest.&nbsp Did this in less than five minutes.&nbsp Good Luck!

When iclick to place the trap it says placing trap. then it says channeling and I don't lose the trap? and if I move it says interupted. and either way the bears walk right threw it.

these guys are greyish, instead of brown like the regular thistle bears. also, i didn't even have to fight one. i stood just outside agro range of the bear, put the trap down, and waited about 15 seconds, and he was mine :-)

make sure you are taming a rabid thistle bear, and not a regular thistle bear.

i have the expansion pack and i do not have problems with this quest (for the person who asked that question).

for those of you losing traps, you can go back and get a new trap from the guy who gave quest... so i would turn in a bug report if you are still having problems and not abandon the quest unless necessary.

No matter how many times i try to capture a bear it attacks me and no matter how many times i fight click on Tharnariun's Hope (the bear trap) it just says placing bear trap and then channeling and the red glow appears and the bears walk in and out of it and never are captured, most of the time they just attack me and i kill them. Could it be a glitch?
