Tumbled Crystal (8)

Description

He's done it this time! Bad enough that Gelriz's muscling out the moguls who were appointed by the trade princes, now he tries to cut in on the most notorious pirate!

Revilgaz won't have it, and he's told me to take care of the problem in my own way.

My way? Theft. The Venture Co. geologists near Lake Nazferiti are deeply interested in those strange blue crystals they have been finding in the mines. Bring me samples of the stone from their geologists, I don't care what you have to do to get them.

The geologists are gnomes found around the mining site on the east side of Lake Nezferiti, in the north part of the zone. They are casters, so wil hit you from range. Also, they wander a lot, so it's easy to get adds from behind you are the sides, where you don't see them coming.

They don't have a lot of hp, so if you get them single they are easy to drop fast.

This quest can be done at the same time as the Goblin Sponsorship (Part 5 of the quest chain beginning with Load Lightening https://classicdb.ch/?quest=1176). It is worth it to do both if you care about your Booty Bay reputation, and it will save you some running to get it done all at once.

As the quest log says, the goblins with the crystals are around the Big lake in the center of the map. You'll find them a little west of where Bhagera spawns, in the goblins clearcut and factory.

These Venture Co. Geologists cast Lightning Bolt that deals ~140 nature damage, Quick Fire Ward, which makes them immune to fire damage for some seconds and Fire Shield II, which deals fire damage to enemies in melee range.

They also run away when they're low on HP.

Quest clearly states that the geologists are very interested in these items, hence they drop it the most.

Drops from level 35-36 Venture Co. Geologist, caster mob, at 44.20. That's right of 'Lake Nazferiti' on the map. They drop 1-2 silver mostly, and sometimes some silk cloth as well.
Watch out for the patrolling Venture Co. Shredder (L37).
They also grant +5 reputation with Booty Bay.

The droprate for Silk Cloth was 35-40% for me.

Average value: 1s 68c.

It took me 14 kills for 8 crystals.

The main camp is at 43,19 but there are plenty more up and around the area.

The drop rate is about 1 in 4 or 5.

Should be done together with [37] Goblin Sponsorship as Foreman Cozzle who you need to kill is right up there.

To everyone saying this is an easy quest... you must not be on a pvp server. This is taking FOREVER because of idiots on horde, not to mention the drop rates are horrible.

The cords. from above are correct, of course if you dont have cords. on your map you can download off of cosmos.&nbsp Im a lv 34 warlock and this quest wasnt too bad. the geologist seem to repop pretty fast so i just camped out and killed the same five and i got all i needed pretty fast.&nbsp I approached from the south side of the camp off of the path.&nbsp The geol. are harder to spot because of their color so dont go running in :)another thing. attacking the big mechanical things is pointless, they dont drop anything. As said above in another comment they have a big aggro range so be carefull.&nbsp hope this helps.
and i love when ppl criticize each others oppinions on this website... its useless, it takes up space and this isnt what the site is for, there are a bunch of different classes and lvs doing this quest so of course you are going to have different methods of doing it... Grow up you bunch of nerds!

- Killing the geologists by the south road is pointless, the never drop anything. At a guess, I'd say this is true for the outliers all around the camp.

- The closer you get to the buildings, the more likely a geologist seems to be to drop. By the time I was killing the geologists right around the foot of the buildings, it was virtually a 100% drop rate.. I find it plausible that you could do this in less than 10 minutes, all you'd need to do is charge the mobs in the middle.

- While the geologists have a fairly wide ranging patrol area, they still stay within zones... however these zones overlap at the edges. If you either attack them directly in the middle of their zone or while they're at the edge overlapping with a geologist you've already killed, you should have absolutely no probs with aggro spread. Just keep an eye out for the shredder's patrol, they can make things irritating.

Oh, and like many/most of the quests in Stranglethorn this one's easy for hunters - found it pretty trivial with a lvl 32/33 hunter (admittedly on a non-PVP server, and I wasn't trying for a new land speed record).

did this as lvl36 druid solo. Cords: 43/20. Not that hard if you just stay on the outside. Also note that these guys are small and can blend into the environment so there are times you might get two instead of one on you. I used human tracking to find those that where a bit away from the others. It was hard to pull just one as they stay once attacked and use range attack on you. They will flee at about 25% health left so watch for that. Drop rate for me was about 1-8 after I got 2 right off the bat. Also there are a few stealthed tigers roaming about.

The drop rate for the crystals is really not that bad. They dropped roughly about 1 crystal for every 3 or 4 goblins I killed. Not too bad, not to mention that I got about 425xp per kill (rested), so I was able to get some good grinding out of it!

Happy hunting!
