Tharnariun's Hope

Find and kill the Den Mother.
  •
Den Mother slain

Description

The survival of our people and lands comes at unfortunate costs, <name>.

You have spilled the blood of nature's servants; many sick animals you have felled. The people of Auberdine are indebted to you, for the forest's pain is eased - even if only for a moment.

I have one final task for you, but be warned, you will have to kill again. It is my hope that this will be the last time I call upon you, <name>.

In a cave to the northeast, near Bashal'Aran, resides the Den Mother. Slay her.

FINDING THE DEN
Easy enough. You can see on the Map where the Den is located, but walking up to the location doesn't put you directly infront of the Den, as expected. Jog a bit north and search for a path to the right. If you're climbing up the side of the mountain and you get stuck, then you've gone to far. It's an easily recognizable area.

COORDINATES
52,36 (~52.4,36.2)

DRUID TACTICS
Stand outside the Den and buff yourself using Thorns and Mark of the Wild.
Take out the cubs that arent directly near their mother first, and then use a Bandage if needed to prepare yourself for the DM.

The easiest way to do this as a Druid is to obtain the ability HIBERNATE.

Successfully put the Den Mother to sleep and let the little ones scamper towards you. Use Entagleing Roots on one cub and fight in the vicinity of any other cubs so that Thorns can continue to deplete their HP. Fight as a Bear or in Natural form. Both are easy. By the time the cubs are dead, the Den Mother will have awoken. Switch to Bear Form if you're low on Mana (making sure of course you have enough Mana to make the shift) and kick some Bear on Bear Booty!

If things gets rough, just run down the trail to heal yourself. The one thing I love about WoW is just about every mob has a short attention span.

You should have little trouble at all no matter what job you are.

At 52, 35, just south of the Naga cave, is a pathway leading up to the den. You'll find level 19 mama bear snoozing between her 4 lvl 9-10 cubs.

This quest is the cave to the right of Bashal Aran on your map. You must travel north past the cave and then take a path to your right to go up the mountain and into the cave. There are several (about 5-6) lvl 10 cubs and one lvl 19 sleeping den mother. I hope this helps you out.

Did this as a lvl 18 Hunter with lvl 17 cat pet.&nbsp There were 4 (lvl 10 and 11) cubs plus the Den Mother (lvl 19).&nbsp Two of the cubs wander around towards the front of the cave, two stay in back with DM.&nbsp CC shot one of the front cubs, turned and ran to get distance from the cave.&nbsp As the cubs exited the cave, I targetted one cub with my pet and slammed the other (concussed) cub with bow until dead.&nbsp Pet managed the other cub.&nbsp Went back to cave entrance, CC shot the DM and ran away from cave.&nbsp Sicced pet on DM and hit cubs with bow till Melee range.&nbsp Melee'd cubs while occasionally taking bow shots at DM.&nbsp Killed both cubs in melee, pet took care of DM with my intermittent bow shot help.

Hint:&nbsp kill the two "regular" bears that prowl the area below the cave near the Blackwood camp.&nbsp That way, if the Den Mother/Cubs start kicking your butt, you can leap off the "cliff" and land down below.&nbsp Den Mother/cubs will only follow part way down and then return to the cave.

The cave can actually be seen on your map if you look: directly east of Bashal Aran, in the mountains. You have to follow a curved path up the side of the mountain to get to it.

I did the quest as a hunter, and besides the level 10 cubs that guard the cave, there was barely any fight. I used a ranged weapon, and the Den Mother didn't even get up to fight back. That may have been a fluke though, so don't assume that she'll be that way for everyone.

Died three times with my lvl 16 priest, before i could pull it off. I was successful, when I killed the cubs one for one, so i could kill DM alone. With a priest: maximise your distance, put up shield, wait 5 sec and pull the cub with mind blast. Throw in a smite and SW:P, before the pack reaches you. Use your wand on the cub after that, because the DM can interrupt your spells with her stun. When they got through your shield, fear and keep wanding on the cub. When he's dead, run down to lose aggro, quickly refill and pull the next cub. Be fast about it, you want all the cubs killed and confront DM, before they respawn again. DM alone isn't too hard.

For some reason, I just couldn't seem to pull the cubs alone.

So, on my 17 Druid, here is what I did.

Get full health, put on all buffs. Get as close as possible without aggroing (you can almost get right next to the first cub). Cast Regrowth and Rejuvenation, blast the mother with Moonfire, then go into Bear Form and start attacking her. Use Demoralizing Roar and Bash (on her) to help lessen incoming damage. Keep using Maul as often as possible, and as soon as she dies, turn around and run straight out of the cave and jump off the hill. Keep going until you leave combat.

I should mention that the fall from the hill will do some damage and may kill you if you're very low on health. Try to go slightly off to the left side before jumping; it's a shorter distance down in that spot.

I did this as Balance; someone specced for Feral could kill her more quickly and get out sooner. It's possible that you may get unlucky and be "stunlocked" by the bears. If you see that you're at about 30% and the mother isn't nearly dead, try to run out so you can try again.

It can be difficult, but it's rewarding when you pull it off! Good luck!

I did this as a 18 druid and it wasnt as hard as I expected. I ran up to the cave in the north by Bashal Aran at 51, 37, moonfired a cub, killed it, and then killed the den mother afterwards. I died right afterwards even though I didnt kill the other cubs, I got the mom and that was it.

Hibernate sounds like fun, but I just did the quest as a lvl 17 druid - and hibernate is a lvl 18 skill. The way I did it was to throw in a few shots of wrath at the cubs, entangle one or two, then run out, heal, once they reach you turn into bear form and finish them off with swipe and bash.

After that the den mother herself is quite easy :)

It drove me nuts finding the path up. It's at 51.37.&nbsp When I got up, I pulled one lvl 9 cub & it bought another lvl 9 cub + the mother. I had my lvl 16 pet kill the cubs first than I pulled the mother away and&nbsp had my pet kill it, using my skills and healing my pet, the mother was dead in 20 seconds. The only pain was finding the path. Soloed as lvl 16 NE Hunter.

You need to go up a bit, so you will be near right part of furlborg camp. Then go right to the mountains and there will be a kind of mountain passage that leads right-down and will lead you to the cave.

Okay folks, I was stuck trying to find it... even with help above.

To make it clear:

The hills around here are pretty steep. I tried climbing most around 52,36 with no success. There is an easy one though... facing it, it's like a U shape gully that goes up - easy to walk up. There is a big tree on the right hand side of the gully.

Walk up, then after the tree take a right hand turn. Easy after that.

As a lvl 16 rogue, this was easy.

Stealthed to the top first.(I didnt have any throwing&nbsp things to use so I just killed the first cub at the beginning, ran away from the raging bears too...O.o).Came back, stealthed and Backstabbed the mother.Evasion and one healing pot did the trick.I tried Sprinting but by the time I pressed the button and walked out, one of the cubs dazed me and I died.Other than that this was way easier than I thought.

Now that the new patch came out, I think there are less cubs and the Den Mother is lvl 18..b4 the patch the quest was orange, now its yellow.

I just used Entangling roots on a cub, ran away, used entangling roots on another cub and ran away, at this point the den mother awoke and she was the only one who I allowed to hit me and I just killed her out of reach of any of the others.

Killed them all at once. I tried pulling a cub, but they all came, so i ran and regrouped. You cant use entangling roots since they're inside a cave, and the mother was too far in to hit with wrath without agroeing the cubs by the door.&nbsp So I got as close as possible to the mother (and the cubs grouped with her in the back) and threw some Heavy Dynamite at the group.&nbsp I had the mother targeted, so when they came running I moonfired her, then went into bear and slugged it out with the mother. I actually forgot to use swipe, (i just learned it) that would have helped allot.&nbsp I also should have hit the heal over time before going into bear, but i forgot that too. Anyway, thanks to engineering it worked out, after the mom died, the cubs died pretty quick. I had maybe 1/4 health left, but i have all green agi/stam gear, including rings, neclaces and +8 stam goggles. Oh and i ate some +4 stam food first. good luck&nbsp

All I heard was how hard this was from everyone online that day...I went to the cave (a little tough to find to path but I watched my map), I sent my pet in after the first cub and followed him in...another cub and Big Mama joined in the action...I just hacked away at the trio and killed them within a minute's time. I finished up the stragglers and was disappointed that the den really had nothing in it. This was a simple quest, I'm not sure why it was so hard for some, but I find some quest tougher than others. I guess it all depends on your character.

A level 17 Druid (Restoration, though it hardly matters at that level) with decent armor thanks to Leatherworker and Enchanter alts. Being an Alchemist, I tanked up on potions and waited till they had settled so I could use a Healing Potion if I had to.

I drew the two cubs when they wandered near to me with a Moonfire. Momma didn't wake up. They barely took me down to half health, so I ate some buffing food. From there it was a relatively easy fight I made sure all my buffs were up, Wrathed her, Moonfired, we were outside so my Nature's Grasp worked on her. Went bear, hung back while she was entangled used Demoralizing Shout against the kiddies, Swipe, Maul Maul Maul. One of the babies went down before she got free, I then concentrated on her and used the potion when I was mostly dead. She fell. The remaining cub was no problem.

Unfortunately there isn't anything nice in the cave, and the reward wasn't extraordinary (thanks to the aforementioned alts I had better gear). Still, the XP was worthwhile.

The cave has a level 10 cub outside, and a few inside as well.

Was easily able to kill the outside cub, then stood at the cave entrance and started pulling the cubs from inside as well and killed them. Partway through, mama bear wandered into view in teh center of the den, but did nothing other than lay down in the middle and sleep while I finished slaughtering the last of the cubs.

I then proceeded to knock her down from range and she never stirred. As a test, when she was very low I entered the cave to melee her. She immediately woke up and began smacking me. It looks like as long as you stay at cave entrance you can kill her in complete safely whatever your level.

She sensed why I was there, seeing one of her own cubs killed in front of her sent her into a rage which I cannot describe. My faithful pet lunged forward fighting for its very life and my own, I showered her and her cubs with arrows upon arrows of my most elite caste - she killed my pet, I slay her cubs then she went for me. Beaten and broken I limped over her lifeless body. She fought well, too well. I still have the scars from my encounter with that foul beast as revenge for the death of my most faithful pet I skinned her young and made blankets out them.

HAHAHA... awwww snaps, yeah the Den mom was elite. Almost killed me :P

For those of you w/o the coordinates in the map you should see Cliffspring River and on each side a symbol of a cave, go the the cave south of Cliffspring River. The trail leading up into the mountain cave is off to the north of actual entrance. Stick to the mountain wall coming east from town and you can't miss it - its a curving path that leads into the mountain. FYI - Bring A GUN, shoot make it a CANNON that bear is tough.

Hehe. I just got done soloing this at level 15 with a level 15 pet.

I died three times before i could do it, but after using CC shot as directed by Langod, i was able to pull the bear and only one of her 5 cubs.

My pet took the cub while i tanked the mother, and when the cub was done i simply had my pet pull aggro and then hit her with my ranged shots.
