Steel Plate Helm (4)

Description

In the time of legends, Aturk would crush the skulls of his enemies and grind the bone into a fine powder for use in filament. Long gone are those days, <race>. The Warchief calls for peace among the clans. Old enemies are now only watched with weary eyes!

Unbelievable, I know, but such is the will of Thrall.

Enough lamenting! You are here to learn, and learn you will! Bring me four steel breastplates and four steel helms and you will gain a taste of war!

I see a lot of confusion on this quest.

Many people are either way behind in Blacksmithing skill for their level, or have the Blacksmithing skill but not the level requirement.

First of all, as others have said, this is on the Armorsmith path.

Second of all, you need to be lvl 40 to open this series (according to the Anonymous entry).

Third of all, you need Blacksmithing 215 skill to make the helm required on the Horde side.

Some tips from my personal experience so far:
-- If you really want to pursue Blacksmithing so that you can make useful items for your level (such as a Warrior / Miner / Blacksmith), pause from leveling / questing to gather ore - lots of ore - between levels 35-39.
If you do this you can put your Warrior into Plate at level 40 and take a break to tank SM runs to get the shield to round out your gear :)

-- If you can't mine what you need, then fix the problem. Either level up until you can kill the mobs guarding the veins, or skill up to the necessary level to mine. I had the problem of having access to mithril veins but insufficient mining skill so I bought gold ore and smelted it to get to mining 175. Once you're mining skill 175 you'll probably only have trouble gathering Truesilver, and you don't need much of that so you may lean on the AH to supply that. You may be farming to save for a mount at the same time anyway, so farm where there's ore to be mined. If you're Horde, the Yeti cave in Hillsbrad Foothills is probably the best source of iron/mithril -- but it's no secret, and Alliance farm there too. The edges of Stonetalon - Charred Vale is an alternative for iron/mithril that's more out-of-the-way.

-- Look ahead on Anonymous to see what you need. But read carefully I looked ahead, and made Golden Scale Bracers only to realize that's an Alliance quest and I'm Horde. (Oh well, got the mining and smithing skill-ups.)

-- To complete the Armorsmithing Mithril order series you will need something like 160 iron and 120 mithril (and various other stuff like Citrine and Truesilver) just to get the plans you'll have to collect even more to make yourself the set. If you want to wear Heavy and/or Ornate Mithril Plate at the first opportunity you will need to farm a ton of ore between lvls 35-39 to bank the necessary materials so that you can just turn in and collect the plans at lvl 40.

-- If you'd rather run instances over and over for Blue drops, then you probably shouldn't pursue Armorsmithing. Do what you enjoy if you're not patient and reasonably well-organized, you'd probably do better to sell the ore.

Enjoy...

This quest is needed to do armoursmithing.&nbsp You can get the armoursmithing quest without having done this quest but in order to complete the armouorsmithing quest you will need to do this one.

To complete the armoursmith quest you need to make a whole bunch of ornate mithril stuff.&nbsp The only way for horde to unlock the ornate mithril quests is to complete this quest.

I'm on the weaponsmith quest right now and have never done this quest. It is not a pre-req for weaponsmith/armorsmith.

I got this at BS 210 skill today, but I see the Steel Plate Helm requires a skill leel of 215, so won't be finishing it just yet.

Both the Steel Breastplate and the Steel Plate Helm can be trained within feet of Aturk at Saru Steelfury, the Artisan Blacksmith trainer.

You can get lots of iron by doing full runs around Arathi Highlands or Thousand Needles. You could buy them from AH, but thats quite expensive. Also, this quest is needed to get a quest chain which gives you BS recipes and trinkets.

After completing this quest, you can get Booty Bay or Bust! (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=2757) from Ox next to the anvil. This leads to the Mithril Order quests for Blacksmiths.

This quest allows you to get the quest that rewards you with the Mithril Insignia - which gives you immune to fear for 30 seconds among other things.

I can't figure out where to learn how to make the Steel Breastplate. When I looked it up Anonymous simply stated the source as "trainer" but I have yet been unable to figure out which one. I checked the Master Blacksmith in Booty Bay, but with no success. Can anyone help?

I can't find where to get the recipe for the Steel Breastplate, does anyone know who you talk to to train it on the Horde side? I tried the Goblin in BB, but it wasn't him, and none of the trainers in Orgrimmar have it either. According to this site it's not a recipe, and I've never seen it on the auction house so that's most likely true.

Alliance folks make these to level up their blacksmith skills. They don't sell for too much in the alliance AH, but smart folks will take them to Booty Bay AH to sell.

I passed this quest thinking 'What a waste of good iron'.... until I picked up the Armorsmith quest and realized that I can't get the Mithril stuff without first doing this quest. Now I gotta farm 120 iron, plus all the Mithril for those quests. UGH!

BTW, I would have never figured any of this out without this site. Thanks for contributing everyone!

This opens up Booty Bay or Bust quest (I think), which sends you to McGavan.
