The Old Ways
Bring four Steel Breastplates and four Steel Plate Helms to Aturk the Anvil in Orgrimmar.Steel Breastplate (4) | |
Steel Plate Helm (4) |
Description
In the time of legends, Aturk would crush the skulls of his enemies and grind the bone into a fine powder for use in filament. Long gone are those days, <race>. The Warchief calls for peace among the clans. Old enemies are now only watched with weary eyes!Unbelievable, I know, but such is the will of Thrall.
Enough lamenting! You are here to learn, and learn you will! Bring me four steel breastplates and four steel helms and you will gain a taste of war!

Upon completion of this quest you will gain:- 3150 experience ( 18 90 at max. level)
Many people are either way behind in Blacksmithing skill for their level, or have the Blacksmithing skill but not the level requirement.
First of all, as others have said, this is on the Armorsmith path.
Second of all, you need to be lvl 40 to open this series (according to the Anonymous entry).
Third of all, you need Blacksmithing 215 skill to make the helm required on the Horde side.
Some tips from my personal experience so far:
-- If you really want to pursue Blacksmithing so that you can make useful items for your level (such as a Warrior / Miner / Blacksmith), pause from leveling / questing to gather ore - lots of ore - between levels 35-39.
If you do this you can put your Warrior into Plate at level 40 and take a break to tank SM runs to get the shield to round out your gear :)
-- If you can't mine what you need, then fix the problem. Either level up until you can kill the mobs guarding the veins, or skill up to the necessary level to mine. I had the problem of having access to mithril veins but insufficient mining skill so I bought gold ore and smelted it to get to mining 175. Once you're mining skill 175 you'll probably only have trouble gathering Truesilver, and you don't need much of that so you may lean on the AH to supply that. You may be farming to save for a mount at the same time anyway, so farm where there's ore to be mined. If you're Horde, the Yeti cave in Hillsbrad Foothills is probably the best source of iron/mithril -- but it's no secret, and Alliance farm there too. The edges of Stonetalon - Charred Vale is an alternative for iron/mithril that's more out-of-the-way.
-- Look ahead on Anonymous to see what you need. But read carefully I looked ahead, and made Golden Scale Bracers only to realize that's an Alliance quest and I'm Horde. (Oh well, got the mining and smithing skill-ups.)
-- To complete the Armorsmithing Mithril order series you will need something like 160 iron and 120 mithril (and various other stuff like Citrine and Truesilver) just to get the plans you'll have to collect even more to make yourself the set. If you want to wear Heavy and/or Ornate Mithril Plate at the first opportunity you will need to farm a ton of ore between lvls 35-39 to bank the necessary materials so that you can just turn in and collect the plans at lvl 40.
-- If you'd rather run instances over and over for Blue drops, then you probably shouldn't pursue Armorsmithing. Do what you enjoy if you're not patient and reasonably well-organized, you'd probably do better to sell the ore.
Enjoy...
