Take the distress beacon to Oglethorpe's homing robot in a cave near Feral Scar Vale.
OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon
Provided Item:
OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon

Description

You have uncovered some sort of strange, egg-shaped device made from metal. Fiddling with one of its knobs springs the egg to life, as it opens up into some sort of gnomish robotic contraption! A voice from inside the robotic egg crackles to life.

"My name's Oglethorpe Obnoticus, and my homing robot has crashed! I will reward you for its recovery; please take this beacon to the robot!"

"I now have computed the coordinates of the robot for you; it is in a cave near Feral Scar Vale!"

To find the robot go into the Yeti cave, the path it bends around and opens back up to a small area enclosed outside.&nbsp Right before the entrance to the next cave area is the bot.

The first part where you find the robot is ok -getting past the Yetis but the next part is a frustrating escort mission.&nbsp You meet at least 3 waves of 5 mobs attacking at different legs of the journey all the way to the docks on the west shore.&nbsp As with these missions if the robo dies so does the mission so you have to restart it again in the caves.

Tried this with my 48 Druid three times. Not a big fan of escort quests (always given at too early a level) but why not? Cleared the path by killing 12 yetis in advance but they respawn so quickly that's it's hard to completely clear. At least the skins are great and the yetis usually drop 1-2S.

Each time the chicken aggroed the yetis in the cave on the way out. No problem. Outside the cave, the chicken would aggro another (no problem) but then a second would run up. I was OK but lost the chicken on that double the first time.

The second time, a re-run made it through the cave and the double outside the cave. Headed to the path. The chicken aggroed one yeti, then two. We were doing OK until TWO more yetis showed up. Did they think we were serving lunch? Four is about one too many for me, so I ran. Chicken salad.

The third time I cleaned out all the yetis between the path and the cave. There were only 3. Where was the 4th? Same thing - made it out of the cave, past the double at the front of the cave and off to the path. One yeti, two yeti, three yeti, four. Five yeti, six yeti, seven yeti, more? I was in the middle of a yeti convention. Ran and just barely made it to the path. Chicken soup.

Groundhog Day? I don't know how you solo guys managed to do this and I didn't get to 48 by killing rabbits and cows. I didn't dump the quest but I'll need to bring reinforcements. It's probably worth doing (like most escort quests) but I haven't seen one yet (that I remember) that most players can do solo.

And here's my solo strategy...
Score 0.3&nbsp &nbsp Vote: [-] [+] by connery, 2.3 months ago
What I did for Feralas and Hinterlands (for Tanaris I had help) to do them solo as a 50 Druid was:

1) Clear out the first set of creatures on the route - slimes for Hinterlands, yetis for Feralas.

2) Follow the chicken stealthed if possible, or if not, don't let any creatures aggro on YOU.&nbsp If they aggro on the chicken, and the chicken keeps walking, don't interfere.&nbsp The chicken will walk away unhurt eventually, but if the creature aggro's on you, the chicken will either help out (and maybe get killed), or walk too far away from you and the quest will fail.

3) When the chicken detects an ambush, RUN OUT IN FRONT and aggro ALL of the ambush creatures, and anything else in the chicken's path!&nbsp Run down the path pulling the creatures with you, and eventually they will give up and run back to the ambush point.&nbsp The trick is that now the chicken will have walked far enough past the ambush point that the creatures won't see it, and you get away clean!&nbsp Be sure not to run too fast and get too far away from the chicken (and the quest fails), but also be sure to run fast enough that the chicken doesn't aggro one of the creatures onto itself!&nbsp It's kind of a balancing act.

4) Try again and again after you fail.&nbsp You will get better at it.

5) If you are about to try it solo, go ahead and tell the General channel that you are going to try the chicken escort, and please if anyone is on the path, could they hang out and help kill the ambushes, or even come run interference?&nbsp I know that if I hear you, I am going to help out, because I know what a bear these quests are.

I'm going to post this message on all three of these "Find" quests, just in case someone doesn't see it on one of the other two.

If you plan to do these quests in a group (which is very helpful, as any escort quest) everyone must first have completed the "Find" part of the quest, which means you have to find the chicken, choose "Complete" and then be *offered* the next part of the quest, which is the actual escort part. But do not accept this part until everyone has done the "Find" part, otherwise it won't be offered to them as escort quests normally are, because technically you are not on the same stage of the quest yet.

So just complete the "Find" part, then when the next part is offered, decline it until everyone is ready to accept it.

Because there are three different chickens, it can really confuse people on which one their really looking for... Lets start with this one.

First of all, this chicken isn't in Hillsbrad, Tanaris, Alterac Valley, Hinterlands...It's Feralas, where you got the egg.

The Yeti cave you're looking for is around 54,56 or south of Dire Maul.

It took me forever looking for the robotic chicken because most of the things people sent for this was incorrect and because I got distracted.

While your escorting the chicken, you'll get some mobs of 3-5 that will attack you, they are from level 42-45.

Lastly, why the GM's kept saying to go to Booty Bay to some of you for the quest is because after you escort the chicken off, you're supposed to go to Booty Bay to finish the quest.

Hope this helps!

I soloed the tanaris escort with my warlock at 47.&nbsp But it was tough.&nbsp I had to be pro active on the mobs, if we were getting close to a bunch of wanderers I would pull one in before getting to the area and made sure I was next to the chicken when I engaged, this made the chicken stop and fight.&nbsp then when it was over, go a few yards and pull a couple more.&nbsp Otherwise wanderers just kept on jumping in.&nbsp At one point in an earlier attempt I had started with a fight with one mob, , then they kept adding, I took down 4, but by this time I had 3 more that had jumped in so I had to run and fail the mission. But being proactive in the pulling, I managed to keep most of the wandering encounters down to 1 or 2 mobs at a time.

When I hit the first spawn point with the 3 scorpids it was a wipeout, so I went back(the mission failed, but the scorpids didn't despawn, they just sat there) and killed the 3 scorpids by killing one then running away and then coming back and killing the other two.&nbsp I left them dead and unlooted(leaving the loot slows spawn times down sometimes.)&nbsp Then as I ran back to the chicken's crash site I killed wanderers along the way and left them unlooted and restarted the quest.&nbsp

This actually made it easier to run this part of the escort mission.&nbsp When I got the scorpid encounter spot, the chicken did his little "danger" announcement, but because I had just killed the scorpid less than 5 minutes earlier, the scorpids never spawned and then we continued on (I know this tactic works because I was having internet connection problems that night and due to this I had to run the quest multiple times as the lag was causing me to fail.&nbsp and I did the "kill the scorpid" tactic 3 times and each time the result was the same.&nbsp the scorpids didn't spawn the next time I ran it).&nbsp

Once you get past the Valley of Time or whatever it is called, it gets eaier as the monsters become lower level.&nbsp The last gank was a set of three of the humanoids that wander that area.&nbsp Considerably easier than the scorpids.

Now keep in mind I was low on health and mana every step of the way.&nbsp transferring health to my voidwalker as much as possible and having to run ahead of the chicken a little bit and I would eayt something, but would only sit for a couple seconds of the duration just to get a little health back to keep going, and the same with drinking for mana replenishment.&nbsp I wasn't full health or mana, nor was my pet for 90% of the mission.
------------

I also just completed the Hinterlands Escort at 48 with the same Warlock.&nbsp I did the same tactic as above with the proactive mob pulling, but it wasn't nearly as difficult.&nbsp For the most part wanderers don't cross the road.&nbsp I was only proactive when the chicken walked past the&nbsp keep with the slimes in it and near the end.

At the first gank with the three owlbeasts I just feared one and took the other two on with my voidwalker(no talent points in pet line).&nbsp I can take 2 at a time but not three.&nbsp so I just kept the 3rd feared until the other two were dead.&nbsp THe fear tactic didn't work in Tanaris because it they would just fear into other stuff that would pull more mobs onto me.&nbsp But in Hinterlands fearing wasn't a problem.&nbsp

I did the same fear tactic with the three trolls.&nbsp Total i was proactive pulling on 2 slimes at the beginning.&nbsp One owlbeast along the way because I didn't know where the first group gank was going to happen. And 2 wolves at the end before the chicken descended to the shoreline and that was all.

Much easier and less frustrating than the Tanaris one.

Hope this information helps out.

I believe it is about the level of knowledge/experience the answering GM has. Apparently, Naomee got a GM who was worth their salt. And teyasio didn't. Much like myself.

Let me also add the chicken was not standing when I arrived. No one else had the quest prior to my showing up at 5am.

As of Noon on November 17th on Darkspear the quest chicken is stuck and not responsive. The answering GM Choginn confirmed the broken quest, that they were working on it, and that the NPC would not respond to him or her. And even said it may need a server restart as some stuck NPC do and this was one of them. But a few lines later he also said a server reset might not fix it. But yet also refused to reimburse my distress beacon even though they are aware it is broken and have done nothing to alert the player base. He/She would not give me an actual supervisors email or name only the default wowgmfeedback-us@blizzard.com email address to "dispute" further regarding a reimbursement or a fix.

[pad]
Doesn't hearing stuff like this make you rethink your addiction for at least a minute hehe.

11/17 11:52:29.881&nbsp Choginn whispers: There are some NPC issues that cannot be resolved by anything other than a realm restart.

11/17 11:52:33.771&nbsp Choginn whispers: And this is one of those cases.

11/17 11:55:39.547&nbsp Choginn whispers: There is no guarantee that the quest will work after a realm restart.

Just so you can see the context of the above, here is the whole conv.
[pad]

The below, is not related to this quest in any way
The reason I say its about knowledge/experience of the GM is because of another stuck NPC issue in the past. Over a 48 hour period I sent 4 tickets in about it. Three GM said that it wouldnt respond and maybe a server reset would fix it. The fourth GM came out, I showed him where the NPC was, in a matter of 2 minutes they had did whatever and said it would pop in the world shortly, sure enough few minutes later everyone was moving along happily on their quest. But 3 other GM left us high and dry claiming they did all they could and we would have to wait for who knows how long for it to be fixed.

1. Clear through the yeti cave, accept the escort quest.
2. Escort the chicken until he is ambushed by yetis. Abandon the quest and let him die.
3. Run back through the cave quickly before respawns and accept again.
4. You may now bypass the yeti ambush; the chicken will run straight to the road and the yetis that did not despawn will ignore him.
5. You'll be ambushed by 3 apes on the road, no other mobs will interfere. Once they're dead, restore health and mana asap.
6. Shortly after the bridge you'll be ambushed by 4 gnolls. The mystic can and will heal.
7. It helps to let the chicken tank 1 or 2 of them.

My first suggestion to all those who can't get he chicken moving: Learn to read. There are THREE different chickens. Make sure you are at the right one. I had the exact same trouble and thought there was a bug until I happened to pick up a SECOND distress beacon (they're unique ya know). Which made me take a closer look at the names. Come to think of it, the reading part works quite well for every damned quest in the game. Amazing what you can find in your quest log if you actually read it. As of today, all 3 quests are quite doable and working. And kudos to the guy who mentioned that NOT looting your kills means they take longer to respawn. Smart guy, listen to him. Lastly, if you need help with something, for the love of intelligence, ASK. There's usually SOMEONE in the area who has the quest too or wants to pick it up.

You find the chicken inside the yeti cave of Ferales.

Once you've accepted the quest you will need to follow it. On your way to the dock, where the quest ends, you will encounter THREE obsitcles!

1 is when you're out of the cave the Beacon detects problems. Three yeti around 45-46 arrived. If you're a mage you can SHEEP one of them, the chicken IGNORES when something is sheeped and even so when it stopped being sheeped. However, they are troubling, since you might attract other animals.

2nd encounter is three gorillas around the lvls of 43-44. I found them easy enough. You encounter them once you've followed the road for about 1 minute or so.

3rd is the hardest. You encounter 4-5 gnolls of the lvls 43-46 (perhaps 47) and one of them is a caster. You encounter them once you've left the road for another dirt road which leads to a dock.

The quest sucks when you're a mage, cuz you don't really have time to get mana. I suggest you either wait till it's green or get someone to help you.

Although the chicken fights back it does take dmg, so be careful. Should you at any point loose aggro it's @#$%ed...

have fun! :P

Once you're past the Yetis, this quest is really easy - just stealth. I stealthed in the anticipation of ambushing the first road mob and they just ran right past me and the chicken. I stayed in stealth mode for the rest of the trip and didn't even have to engage in combat once. The leather shoulders were a good reward too. Hope that helps!

Soloed this as a 46 mage actually. The main problem is getting from the cave to the road.. generally a bear or ape will agro as the three yeti that spawn about 30m from the road attack, which can make for a very tough fight. The other spawns(gorillas followed by some gnolls) are easier to deal with ~ not much worry of outside agro either.

Soloed as a lvl43 warlock.
Took a few tries, but with a soulstone, amplify curse and the regular ones (Curse of Agony, Corruption, Immolate...) it was doable. Hard! but doable.

First I met 3x lvl46 Yetis, then came 3x 44-45 gorillas and finally it was 4x lvl43 gnolls.

For warlocks:
If you want to use Fear on the first three yetis, be sure you have just killed everything around you, as the fleeing yeti will attract other enemies.

Just an update. I decided to try to repeat this quest and couldn't--went to the ogre camps and killed all the ogres from one end to the other and back. A scroll appeared on the ground in the middle of the camp and then at the east end, but each time I tried to open them, they were blank, so either this quest is not repeatable or I did something wrong. I abandoned the failed quest first since that seems to work for repeats most of the time, but no luck.

After the agro-chicken leaves the den the yetis come running, I ran ahead took them little effort and 1 mana pot. The gorillas came much faster just after a 44 bear attacked us, with ranged area attack i was able to knock them as well. The 4 at the end are what got me, they killed the pet but i was still able to get the last of them before getting killed myself....Bring heals and mana use them as soon as you need them you wont have much time untill the next wave hits you.

I thought it was all going to be as easy as running ahead of the chicken and killing all the yeti's ahead of us on the path, then all of the sudden I was dealing with triplets, not to mention the stupid bear that wandered in to wreck my chicken rescue. Last I saw of the chicken it was doing just fine, and pecking away at the yetis, but sad to report, my VW and myself didn't fair so well. Would love to try this again, but am not sure if I want to go through the hassle of killing a bunch of ogres wearing underpants to find it.
