Extinguishing the Idol

Escort Belnistrasz to the Quilboar's idol in Razorfen Downs.

Protect Belnistrasz while he performs the ritual to shut down the idol.
  •
Protect Belnistrasz while he performs the ritual to shut down the idol

Description

Near the entrance is an idol that functions as a macabre oven for the Quilboar; the beasts... they literally consume their abductees from the Barrens. I can shut down the idol and bind them from using it again, but I need your aid in doing so. My plan: escort me to the idol. Once we arrive, I'll commence the ritual. I'll barely be able to communicate with you, let alone defend myself. Protect me while I shut down the idol. If they take me down, then it's all over for us.

Are you with me?!

have done this myself, so I can say with 100% confidence that this quest CAN be done by all of the people in your party at once.

The setup for this quest is just plain dumb, and desperately needs to be reworked. Basically the way this quest works is you have to talk to Belnistrasz a couple of times (at least twice), and he eventually will offer you the quest Extinguishing the Idol, when you accept this final quest from him, the escort process begins. At this point, everyone in your party that talked to Belnistrasz up until the point where he was offering them the chance to accept the Extinguishing the Idol quest (but have not actually accepted the quest) will be given the typical "X has started an escort quest would you like to join? Yes or No" option. Anyone who has not, will not get credit for the quest.

What typically happens when playing through RFD is that someone in your party will click through all of the dialogue boxes with Belnistraz before anyone else has had a chance to talk with him, the quest will begin, and they will be the only one to earn credit for it. If this happens, just let that party member go and try to complete it on their own. That sounds completely fair to me.

Make sure that before you get to this part of the dungeon you warn your party about what is going to happen in regards to accepting this quest. Then have each member talk to Belnistrasz, and ask them "Does it say Extinguishing the Idol" at the top of the quest description. If the answer is no, then tell them to select "accept" or "continue". If the answer is yes, then tell them to hit "decline" and wait for everyone else to go through this process. Once everyone in your party can talk to Belnistrasz and have "Extinguishing the Idol" pop up, accept the quest.

BE SURE to have AlREADY cleard the road back to the idol room ( In theory you should have to get there, but depends on which entrance of the instace you came from ).

Be very carefull and I would suggest you do this Q last since it is WAY hard for the stated lvl.

Also bear in mind that the quest must be done INDIVIDUALLY for everyone. So if 5 ppl in the party want the ring reward, you must do it 5 times all over again...

As mentioned it is VERY hard, thats why I say try it last so if you get wipped it wont matter that much, also there is NO WAY that you can manage it at the stated lvl...

If you happen to die right after the quest is complete you can still run back in and finish it. Belnistrasz's Brazier will not despawn as long as the instance is active.

To turn in the quest...

Kill all of the mobs and then a fireplace will appear where Belnistrasz was standing that will say "Belnistrasz Brazier". Inspect that and your done.

You cash it in by clicking on the brazier Belnistrasz leaves behind in front of the idol when he finishes channeling. This is the reward Dragonclaw Ring

I also left the instance without realizing I needed to turn it in before leaving.&nbsp I later went back into the instance to turn it in, but didn't see anything in front of the idol.

I suspect that the item isn't there all the time, but appears after the quest is completed (entering a later copy of the dungeon won't have the item).

I think what needs to be done is to abandon the completed quest (so the guy will talk to you again) and then redo the quest.

I will confirm this later if it works.

(Could someone please submit a screenshot?)

When we did this, only one person in the group got the reward so I don't recommend doing it at this time (I assume it's a bug). Also, even if it's marked as a level 37 quest, I doubt it would be possible to complete it without higher level help. We did it with a group of 42-47 and it was quite challenging.

You dont hand in the quest to anyone or anywhere other than where you had the battle, where the guy who did the ritual to turn off the cook pot was standing appears a metal brazier which glows with fire, i did miss it aswell as in the commotion of the what seems a huge battle and all the dead bodies you can walk out without realiseing its there.
If you dont click the brazier to except the reward of the nice blue quality ring then i guess if you come back in at a later time then the brazier will have dissappeared until you recomplete the whole quest again.
I was a lvl60 warlock with 4 lvl40's with me and we got wiped out twice but on the third attempt with seriously depleted durability everyone was wiser and quicker in defating the waves and we succeded.
I went to the quest giver and he wouldnt talk to us, I went back clicked the brazier and got the Ring. 2 of us strted the quest escort and so 2 of us completed make sure everyone gets as far as the guy above states excpet the rune and give it back.
As you go into RFD if you stick to the left you will find the quest giver in a like wooden jail cell.
good luck its a hard fight but i love that ring for my lock.

My group tried this 3 times.&nbsp We grabbed the mobs as soon as they spawned.&nbsp Yet somehow, the NPC died every time.&nbsp I think he was taking damage from a poison or disease DoT of some sort.&nbsp He sure as heck wasn't taking spell damage or melee damage.&nbsp The fight was a breeze, but they should give this guy a few more HP.&nbsp He dies ridiculously easily.

Not fun to farm.

I've got a 60 Warrior with many Epic items when I tried this quest. First make sure you clear all of the mobs in the zone or at least from the Murder Pens to the Idol because the guy doesn't help to fight, he'll just keep walking when attacked.

When he starts his thing mobs will start spawn. Normally two elite mobs 37-40 with a couple 37-39 normal mobs. They come in waves, but they don't wait until the first wave is down, they just keep coming after a few minutes.

If you don't have a way to heal yourself it can be painful. I do believe you'll see 5 or 6 waves of mobs including a named mob at the end. - Plaguerot who is normally a lvl 40 elite.

So all in all, with a good group this would be easier & fun to do. If solo & farming make sure you're able to heal mid fight.

I don't know, I did this quest several times with groups of as low as a 3-4 level 40-43's and 1-2 level 35-38s, and we had no problems with it.

The last time I tried this, my group was two Paladins, me (Rogue), all level 40-43, and a level 35 Druid. The other guy was random probably a Mage or something. Level 40.

So, it's doable without many high 40s.

I definately agree with these posts. We tried to do this last night with a 40 druid, 41 hunter, 41 priest and 42 pally and got obliterated.

Probably need 5 42+ to be certain of success or 3-4 45+.

There is an error in the attain level.

I went into RFD tonight with a higher level party.. we were going after a specific piece of gear, and passed Belnistrasz. I had looked at this, and thought I wouldn't be able to get the quest, as the alt I was on was level 32.

I was, however able to get it. I died -- not surprising, given my level and the number of mobs that come out, but I was indeed able to get the quest 2 levels lower that it indicates above.

I haven't been into RFD at a lower than 32 level, it would be interesting to know just how low this quest can be obtained. With a full group, we would have completed it, and I'd have had the ring -- nice enough, not an ideal ring for my the alt's class, but nice for extra stamina when needed.

Has anyone tried to get it at a lower level? 30, or 31? If it could be obtained at 29, I'm sure it would become very popular indeed.

With regard to only one person getting it at a time, I've had it happen both ways on other characters. Sometimes the whole group doing it were able to get the ring, and sometimes only the person who started it. I did get a "So and so is starting the quest, do you want to join" message on one occasion. We had made sure to all be at the same point... talked to him, then gave the item he gives back and everyone open to "start" the quest point. We all were able to get it that time, but yes, I've been on runs where it seemed everything was done right and only one person showed completion at the end.
