Fractured Elemental Shard (10)

Description

The machines made themselves known to us during our initial forays into the Searing Gorge. Upon further investigation we discovered that they were being imported from Burning Steppes, possibly Blackrock Depths. That is what we need you for, <name>.

Your first task is to venture to the Burning Steppes and recover elemental shards from the rock automatons and lesser rock creations of the region. Once you have collected a sufficient amount, return to me and I shall determine their source of origin.

Got all my shards off the War Reavers (53-55). They are around the Ruins of Thaurissan. This is near the north wall a little past the center of zone. Follow the main road in and bear left at the Y. The Horde has a flight outpost just a little north of the ruins , up in the hills. In the ruins, watch out for the dorfs with the flameshooter mouths. lol

They can drop from the War Reavers or the Greater Rock Elems in the lava pits, seems to be about a 70% drop off of the reavers.

Just click on Fractured Elemental Shards in the above quest description, scroll down to see what mobs drop it, then click map beside the name of any of the mobs you want to know about. You'll get a nice map showing you all the locations it has been killed recently. Ignore random odd dots in wierd places on the maps.

I wanted to add that the Malfunctioning Reaver (rare spawn) also drops the Fractured Elemental Shards. I happened to find him earlier while on the quest and he dropped 5 of them! Lucky for me, that's exactly how many I needed to finish :).

Just be wary of the little dwarves that are in the area. Sometimes you can't see their short statures behind the little stone walls and they aggro while you're fighting the elementals.

This quest was a complete pain in the ass for a lvl 53 mutilate rogue. Drop rate is fine but the mobs in question are immune to gouge, poisons and blind and have huge armor. Also, about half of the war reavers patrol around so you have about 50% chance of having another join in your fight at any given time. Ended up dying about 10 times and taking 2hrs -_-. Make sure you have your fights planned out well if you're melee.

Reavers are much easier to find and always drop money but they're packed in with dwarves who also like to patrol around. Greater obisidian guys are a bit easier to take down and even offer 5 Hydraxian rep per kill and frequently drop essences of earth, although they just as often drop nothing at all. Unfortunately, they're spread all over the zone and share spawning places with groups of imps which you generally want to avoid. Pick your poison, but not literally >.>

Soloed VERY easily at 52. 66,34 is one of the small plateaus next to the lava. Respawns were just timed perfectly for each round and some manaing up. Only issue were the various Alliance out for an easy kill of one wandering Orc Warlock. Left after an hour with 9 HK, 10 fragments, and six greens. Not to shabby.

I just killed War Reavers (lvl 53-55) south of Flame Crest. Anyone in need of Runecloth should go ahead and kill the humanoids in the ruins as well as they drop Runecloth at a pretty decent drop rate. Took 26 War Reavers to drop 10.

Greater Obsidian Elemental has high ammount of chance to drop them, War Reaver instead drop rate is very low (for me) i suggest u to kill the Greater Obsidian Elemental instead to do War Reaver, u can found them in the lava pools

I did this quest 16/06/08 and now the drop rates seem to be extremely increased, it must be atleast 70% on the reavers, and pretty much the same on the Greater Obsidian Elementals :p

One every 3-4 kills with the reavers. So much for every single drop. Not ehough elementals to kill for good drop rate neither. But at least they only ask for 10 of these things.

First four Obsidian Elementals (next to the flyer in Burning Steppes) each dropped one, after that it was about 3 kills to a drop from War Reavers and Elementals. It might have something to do with the level, I was 58 doing this quest.

I soloed this fairly easily by pulling the mobs to 68,41 (43 Warrior). From there you can single pull about 5 - 6 of them safely. Drop rate was not that great.

Kill the War Reavers ONLY around the FP and in the ruins. They did't start dropping for me till my 3rd kill. After that out of the 13 I killed, 10 drops.
It is not as hard as mentioned above if your lucky I guess. I took me 20 minutes total. Good Luck! What out for Alliance Gankers... I had two on me killing me very few minutes for kicks.. Level 70's...
