The Weaver

Kill the Dalaran archmage, then retrieve his staff for Shadow Priest Allister at the Sepulcher.
Ataeric's Staff

Description

An archmage of great power is overseeing the reactivation of the ley energy node. With the progress they have made, our only hope of stopping them is by killing him. It will be difficult, he is no doubt protected by many other mages and warders.

You must go, and you must dispatch him quickly. When he is dead, retrieve his staff for me. Go now.

The amount of patrols are BRUTAL in this area, inside the "castle" grounds you can easily aggro 3 or 4 different patrols in the time it takes to kill one mob just getting into the building.&nbsp Each mob has a pet or can summon a pet, so you could very easily be up against 6 mobs in a few seconds if you're not careful.

Once you're in the building you will have to fight off at least 4 to 5 mobs (with pets) at the same time since they will all aggro if you attack any of them.&nbsp It cannot be done solo by fighting your way through them without be an excessively high level, which would be pointless since the reward isn't worth waiting until you're high enough level to solo the area.

By the time you're at a level to realistically attempt doing this quest you could be grouping up and running WC for the Leaders of the Fang quest and a much better reward.

If you must do this mission follow the above advice, rush in, get into the corner of the "stage" (not the bookcase corner, the other corner - the corner opposite the stairs leading up to the stage area) and rez there.&nbsp You'll only aggro Ataeric that way.&nbsp He shoots you with frost bolts and will freeze you in place with frost nova, but if you rez, target and start attacking him, and use a healing pot as needed, you should be able to take him down.

I soloed this as a level 20 Warlock (no pet since I rezed in the corner), wasn't easy, died 3 times figuring out the lay of the land.&nbsp Finally just rushed in, died, soul stone rezed, killed Ataeric and hearthstoned out.

You can find him at 63, 64 at the Ambermill town hall building with the wall around it.

There'll be 3-4 other Dalaran units in there with him (Always seems to be at least one Conjurer with a Voidwalker in there as well, sometimes 2 or 3 of them). Needless to say, it's a pain. If you're a rogue, you can stealth in, kill the archmage quick, and either run out or die. If you can't stealth, you'll probably need a group unless you're at least 22+.

"This is easy"

You're all a bunch of liars.&nbsp Just about the ONLY thing that works for a warlock is dying a &*!@load of times, resurrecting beside him, and hoping to god that the crap you res with is enough to toast him.

Most times, it's not.&nbsp Whomever said they were a level 18 warlock and did it fine was lying through their teeth.

Forget rezing next to the bookcase. There is indeed a warder stationed nearby who will see you and pwn your butt. Try rezzing on the opposite far right side of the Archmage, in the corner of the 'stage' behind the table. From this position, he spotted me immediately upon rez but a quick health potion, a few DoTs, and a little wand action later he was dead and no other mobs were agrod in the process. From this angle I was able to go arond the table and loot the staff without pulling any agro either. Since I didn't have my minon summoned at this point I decided to just agro the mobs anyway so I cold rez in Sepl and turn the quest in.

The key to getting to this point in the first place is to go slow and steady, pulling the mobs outside the building one at a time. Just observe for a few minutes first so you can see their patrol pattern. You only want to fight no more than three at a time, not six or eight including their minons. You can rest once you get inside the 'middle' room of the bilding.

Applying a little logic, considering the mention of ley lines and the fact that the earlier quests dealt with the Ambermill, I looked for him there. Lo and behold, there he was in the "town hall" type building at the end of the road into Ambermill.

This quest is marked as L22, but that only refers to the level of the archmage - I tried soloing this repeatedly as a L24 warlock and just got killed repeatedly - there are too many mobs in the room with him.

Indeed the Archmage is in the back of the townhall-type building. As a Lvl-28 Rogue, I stealthed all the way up to the guy and then hit him with a Cheap Shot (stuns for 4 seconds) and then pummelled him to death and grabbed the staff. Of course, this woke up the other mobs, but I simply ran for it, using Sprint to get clear. A quick 1400 XPs :)

Rogues are great - selective destruction!

He's in Ambermill in the large church / town hall type building in the centre.

Getting in is easy as the patrols outside not that big a fight. But inside building is more difficult. There (by memory) 3 casters w/minions in the centre of the room, priest is in right hand corner near books.&nbsp I haven't finished it yet, simply cause I keep getting my butt kicked. But quest is still yellow for 21 mage, I'm going to try again shortly.

I read somewhere that peopel would run in, die near the book cases and then respawn aggroing only the priest and killing him, I imagine that is best for wars/rogues however

I did this with a 24 warrior first time. It is the big house at the end/middle of ambermill.
careful on entering as you will pull two casters and two minions and there are two others there so if you wade in you will get a handful!
Lower levs (except Rogues) may struggle to solo

Four+ times before, when I looked through the door to the other side of the room (where three chairs sit, side by side), I would see just one mage. Yesterday, there were _two_ mages standing next to those chairs. One was a lvl 21 female mage&nbsp with that usual Silver Dragon (around its portrait). Sorry, didn't get her name - please add a comment if you catch it :). And I got pawned 3 times in a row, and quickly, when I tried to pull the nearest VW as a Warrior.

Apart from this time, I did the quest as a warlock (all were about level 24 =/-1).

Apart from the first time (when I got pawned trying the bookcase trick) and apart from this time (when I got pawned before I put one foot in the door), I typically die once, but with 2-3 fewer mobs to kill (later, after I res). For me, the Dalaran archmage typically stands around without noticing me pulling the room's mobs to their slaughter. I know I never "let" a mob get past the picnic table closest to the archmage.

I see 3 possibilities:

1.
That Silver 'elite' was trying to tell me: "You think you can do this solo? Not this time!"

2.
I suck more as a Warrior than I do as a Warlock.

3.
I should not pull the void walkers.

Choose one or more of the above. Level 25 is about your last chance to get decent XP for this quest, but aggro will be the lowest. Frost resistance would be a very nice buff, I bet.

This time, I talked to my guildies and got it done fastest yet (not counting my 3 suicide-by-mob attempts). We went back after she died. We saw everyone _but_ her respawn. So, don't be surprised if you never meet her.

I think many of the above bad experiences _might_ have depended upon how many mobs were in that room. I know the count can vary by at least one silver 'elite' ... :). I see this is the last quest in a series. I know that many quest series end with a group quest: Maybe Blizz made an optimistic judgement call on this one.

She dropped a very decent green/uncommon "of the Owl" item (bracer I think, won by a guildie).

Doable as a level 20 Warlock using a Voidwalker as well. It takes a bit of strategy, seeing how the building Ataeric is in is extremely cramped.

All you need to do is properly pull a target and crowd control any add-ons. Let's say you use Curse of Agony on a Conjurer, and another Conjurer tags along, have your Voidwalker attack them and use Torment on each at least once, from there you could use Rain of Fire a couple times to finish them off, or take the mobs out one by one.

It's relatively simple. :) I never want to do this quest again though. Ghostlands is a much better zone for 10-20.

Doable as a level 18 mage, with some strategy.

First, carefully watch the patrols outside the villa, particularly the Conjurer who goes inside. When safe, pull the conjurers to the sides of the entrance and the warder at the doorpost, sheeping any adds you get as necessary. Also beware of the mobs that patrol the road.

Then pull the conjurer patroller and kill her.

Now, you should be able to go inside and pull the mobs in the archmages room. Get away from the room to the left as you go in as soon as possible in case the wandering conjurer respawns, cause she goes in there. If you spot her patrolling again, you can kill her again just to be safe.

Did this on a 22 warrior alt of mine. The quest was easy enough until the Archmage used "Chains of Ice" and kept on exploiting the deadzone. Lasted 10-15 seconds each and he would just sit and cast frostbolt after frostbolt. He doesn't have a lot of health so I was able kill him but drinking a pot was neccessary. Incredibly poorly designed encounter.

I used the run, die and rez trick. It worked fine. I didn't have any problems with him moving around and pulling other mobs. I rezzed in the corner by the bookcase, sheeped him, used a heavy silk bandage and mana potion and hit him with firebolt five times and he died. I didn't pull another mob until I left the corner to loot the wand. When I looted, I pulled all the mobs in the room. So after I got the wand I just sat down, took it like a man and spirit rezzed to turn in the quest. Easy as pie!

I ran in and pretty got owned and died, so I resurrected in the little room between the entrance and the boss room and healed to full and summoned my pet. I slowly strafed until I could see the guy by the bookcase, and sent the pet after him (and the pet killed him, as well as his minion!)

So then, I went in by the bookshelf, healed the pet, and picked off the last remaining guard, and finally the boss! Getting out was a little tricky too, but if you time it just right the patrol doesn't see you!

It was harder for me, because the rare 21lvl mob was in there too.
First i died. Because i tryed to AoE everything in the room :)
My second atempt was a little diferent. I sheeped the rare mob, and ran in the coridor, so the warlock couldn't cast shadowbolt. Then i used frost nova + mana shield + arcane explosion.
That killed one of the warlocks(+ void) and one other mob.
Next i killed the rare mob.
Then the other warlock and guard(i can't remember what their name was).
Finaly i killed the quest mob.

And that happend in no more than 12 minutes.

We tried some people's suggestion of running in, dying, coming back, and killing the big boss, but we were dead again so fast that way.&nbsp Maybe warriors are tough enough to last that long with half a dozen things hitting them, but not us.

The second time, we came back behind the building, got out of the area, then came back and walked straight into town up the road, slowly and methodically killing everything in range and resting as needed.&nbsp We rested in the foyer of the big house, then went in and drew out about half the enemies in the room with the boss and had a big battle.&nbsp We rested, went in, and killed the rest of them.&nbsp I was kept busy healing and shielding everybody while the succubus and warlock did most of the killing.&nbsp

* Kill the guards, which is rather easy since they're lvl 17-18. I died once here, since I pulled 2 "warlocks" and one "warrior" at the same time.
* I sheeped the guard that is close to the Archmage, and then I dps'ed the Archmage, loot, and ran.
* Back to the Sepulcher and got a pretty nice +stamina staff :)

For those who say it's easy. Shut up.

The bookcase is no longer possible, you are aggroed immediately by 2 mobs. Hunter pets are immediately sheeped.

The "safe room" outside is no longer safe, there are 3 mobs with minions who patrol this area. The guards outside aggro if you anywhere near door.

don't waste your time trying this solo. Get a group.

Taking out the gaurds around the house isnt very hard at all (though I think they should give you som kind of funky drink for taking out the dalaran brewmaster), once you have them out of the way, pull the gaurd next to the door first, then the on by the stairs, then just go in strait for the archmage guy. I ran in with my voidwalker (lvl 19 undead 'lock), and was quickly overwhelmed by all the guys in the room. I ghosted back in and rez'd in the far corner by the bookcase. This quest is easy, it requires a bit of thinking however and you cannot rush into it. That leads to your death.

At 20 it can be done without a problem with a priest specing into shadow. Use the internal terrain to your advantage(walls are our friend). The first step is to clear the front steps of the two warders who wonder around. Then the Conjuror who walks into the front entrance hall. Once this is done you can take your next step into soloing.

Watch the movement pattern of the voidwalker just inside the main hall, don't get too close or you'll aggro him. When he gets close to you, hit him with SW:P get out of the line of fire for the conjuror drawing him to you. Kill him, heal as needed, and use PW:S. Don't forget innerfire. Hit the wader in the far left corner next and kill him -- draw him into the hall, followed by the other conjurer(VW first, draw him out, move further back drawing him in to the hall) and so on.

You should now have most of the hall clear except for the lone warder up by the platform and the Dalaran archmage. Pull the warder, kill him. Last is the archmage. Hit him with mind blast, devouring plague, and slaughter him with every spell you hold in your undead heart. It'll be over before you know it.

The total time it took me was roughly 10mins, lvl 20 priest 622hp(w/pw:f) 922 mana(non buffed).
