Ursius of the Shardtooth

Storm Shadowhoof at Everlook in Winterspring wants you to kill Ursius.
  •
Ursius slain

Description

In the snowy mountains of Winterspring, to the northwest, a skilled hunter stalks his prey... I speak of Ursius of the shardtooth bears, an agile and clever beast.

I send you now against him. He roams the sloping hills to the northwest of Everlook. Find and hunt him, before he discovers your intent.

All that have gone up against Ursius have quickly found themselves to be the prey, and he, the hunter. Stay on your guard.

Dear Ursius,

The first time we met, I remember you did your maulish bear hug. I was inclined to fall off a cliff, and die. The second time I died again, falling off these goddamn cliffs. Then I stalked you, you ran away and I followed. In an open clearing you killed me again. The fourth time I caught you dissapearing around the bend of a mountain. You can't escape! You killed me promptly. The fifth time, I was - frankly - pissed off. I let you have it, and with a little luck took you out! May you enjoy bear heaven little Ursius, now gtfo of my game.

A Summary

Closest place to Everlook.
Can be found at 60,33 - walking down the hill towards Everlook.

Full Patrol Path
I have followed him through a full circuit of his patrol path and he walks to the peaks of four different hills. Head to any of these and wait - or plot a path to find him.
The Peaks.
56,38
60,31
61,27
64,24

He is a level 56 Golden Elite.
He looks just like any other white bear.

5800 Exp.

100 to Thunder Bluff Rep.

To pull into town for town guard assistance -
Go out of the Horde entrance heading North - go to the top of the hill - wait to find this Bear and then head South staying ahead of the bear until you find it start to move away from Everlook to the West.

Pull to the Horde side entrance of Everlook (West side) and the guards will net it and finish it off.

To those that find mobs will not pursue them when desired -
You have to inflict *some* damage to successfully pull the bear all the way to the entrance. I would suggest doing it in bursts - keeping ahead of this slow bear in between your attacks.

Solo'd as a level 56 shadow priest 10-0-38.
I pulled to the town because it was mentioned so much in previous posts and i have never done such a thing before. Pretty sure i would of finished it anyway as the bear was very low health as it reached the town and my mana + health were looking good. (Vampiric Embrace is just fantastic).&nbsp &nbsp 8)

This bear wanders around the mountains, so it's hard to give exact coords for him. Look around his page (Click on the Ursius Slain link for Wowhead's listed coords)

Pretty much a basic 56 bear. Mages and warlocks should have no problem soloing. Not sure about other classes, but depending on gear and level, they shouldn't have much problem either.

For those of you without any UI installed, Ursus wanders around the mountains north of Everlook. It may take some hunting to find him, as he wanders around the mountains.

The quest-text is acctualy wrong. Ursius does not spawn to the west of Everlook but to the north - north-east. Look for the giant tree.

Once I found him he was surprisingly easy to take down. Solo'ed as a 57 rogue without breaking a sweat.

I asked in general if anyone sees him to let me know. I was searching everywhere for him.

A 57 Rogue found him, so me (56 Priest) killed him together. He does it very hard and has about 13k health or something like that.

He was on top of a hill at 61,21.

You best bet in finding him is to start in the mountains just north of Everlook, and run west to the other mountain across the valley. That tends to be his circuit.
Otherwise a fairly challenging elite, both because of his 12k health and 3-400 hits. Like all bears though he is slow and can be easily kited. Watch for adds but otherwise good luck.

Ursius is a level 56 mob, he can be very hard to find because he blends in with the other bears.

He patrols around an area north of the town. Here is wowhead's link to his patrol area: http://classicdb.ch/?npc=10806

Here are 2 helpful ways to find him:
  1. Make a macro (/target ursius) and click it every few seconds.
  2. Ask general chat every few minutes.
I wouldn't spend too much time looking for this guy it could take you a very long time to find,

I think this quest may be bugged. I saw him once and I went back to everlook to ditch my pet and tame him. When I got back, he had vanished. This took less than a minute and he could not have gotten that far and no one that could have got him was around. No body either. Its like he just dissappeared.

A cheap way to kill it if you can only take him to about half way is to slowly train him to Everlook - the two bruisers at the entrance will make short work of Ursius and as long as you do about 50% of the damage, the kill is yours too.

I tried to solo him at level 55 (shadow priest). I failed since he resisted 40-50% of my spells. I tried again at 57, and it was cake.. just keep dots on him, use mind blast when it's available, and mindflay when he's far away. Fear was always up when I needed it so there was also no kiting involved.

Soloed him as lvl 54 Paladin (prot spec)

For if you don't use coords I would recommend:
What I did was, I made a macro with: /target Ursius writen in it.
and then cruise around north of everlook near mountain tops and you should find him quite easy that way.

Ursius and Brumeran are no longer Elites as of todays patch, which means its a possibility that Shy-Rotam and her Mate are no longer Elite aswell. I'm not to that part in the quest string yet but will edit this post accordingly if no one else has the info by then.

*edit* Confirmed, Shy-Rotam and her Mate have both been reduced to Non-elites.

If you go to 59,32 he walks between the two hills to either side of that coord. If you dont find him on either hill travel on to 62,29- you should find him sometime along that path.

Twice I was able to kill the yeti on the hill near 59,33 and get Ursius to spawn. I died the first time due to too many on me at once, but the second time I was able to tame Ursius. I assumed you had to get the quest from the NPC in Everlook, but you don't. That's a horde quest anyway. So just go hit that hill, kill the yeti and you'll see Ursius spawn near 59,33.

i tamed him instead, dont have found the q yet, but i wanted it at pet since it got 2,4 attack speed if that did not change due to the 2 last patches ( im a little un updaded on things nowdays :p )

easy way for hunter to tame him since hes elite, you simply place a frost trap so he get trapped than use scorpid sting to lower his damage (strength and agility) ( he barely damaged me at all ) )

easy to tame when they are freezed :p

Definitely check right by the flight point at 59,33. His stupid bear self was hiding behind a tree. Also, you all must be wearing gray gear or something because i soloed him as a 54 warlock with an add and they both perished. Learn to be a warlock. /flex

Soloed this quest with a level 55 Frost Mage. Wasn't an easy fight because he was often dealing more than 500 damage to me and while kiting I aggroed another mob which I had to sheep, thus losing time. He dropped absolutely nothing though.

easy as pie as a 56 BM hunter. Had to pop a mana potion (pet heals took a lot out of mana) but it was still pretty easy. If you get aggroed by other bears in the area a good idea would be scare beast and attempt to finish ursius as quick as possible he hits hard. I popped intimidation 2 times (1 in the start of the fight, 1 as soon as the cooldown was over) and Beastial Wrath in the beginning of the fight. Overall, I barely lost any health and my pet lived with 65% health left.
