High Chief Winterfall

Donova Snowden in Winterspring wants you to defeat High Chief Winterfall.
  •
High Chief Winterfall slain

Description

While we still know very little about why the furbolg have been ingesting this strange substance, I do think it's best that we put a stop to it before it gets out of hand.

The Winterfall furbolg are not a normally aggressive tribe, and this change in their behavior leads me to think that they must be under orders from their chief. We most likely can't undo the damage that has already been done, but I think that if their leader is slain, they will not get any worse.

Head east to Winterfall Village.

The Chief is in the cave above the winterfall village (NOT the Yeti cave!). Respawn seems to be about 5-10min.
He is surrounded by 2 non elites and the Chief by himself is a very easy elite, you just need some way to CC the adds.

Also before you start the fight make sure the winterfall runners are not going to jump you from behind since they do end their run here.

High Chief is non-elite as of patch 2.3.0 (and many other mini-bosses are), isn't a problem to solo now.

After you kill him he drops a book that will give you another quest that you turn in to Donovan (same person that gave you this quest). So be sure to loot him before you run away from the mob

He isn't in the big Yeti cave, he's on top of it in a little cave of his own.&nbsp There is a road leading up there from Winterfall Village.&nbsp The village is due east of Everlook.

If you do Are We There, Yeti? (http://classicdb.ch/?quest=5163) first, you can use the mechanical yeti reward to aggro one or both of the adds. By doing this I soloed it quite easy as a 58 druid.

The High Chief is a lvl 59 elite, but a relatively easy one if you're cautious. You can make your way to him relatively easily and without many fights if you follow the ridgeline that is around the village (the village itself is NE of Everlook). The Chief also drops a book that starts a (currently) short line of quests.

I soloed him as lvl 55 hunter in the following way:

- attack and kill the shaman first
- feign death and revice pet
- attack and kill second one
- feign death and revice pet
- attack and kill the boss.

Not very easy, but I did made :)

First thing nobody has mentioned yet is that one of Chiefy's bodyguards is a shammy who heals. TAKE THAT ONE OUT FIRST. Sent in felguard, chewed that one down easily, howl to scatter the rest while healing felguard, then DoTted everybody still standing. When felguard went down I called an infernal in at the cave mouth who made short work of the remaining Ursa and chief. You can probably pull this same trick at much lower level, whenever you get an infernal. The infernal's 'AoE stun on arrival' effect gets really handy when a 59 elite is chewing on your eyebrows.
Finished at 90% health, 30% mana, first time through, so the infernal might've been overkill...I could have tried to keep the felguard up instead. Anyhow, it should be a cakewalk if you just DoT and fear and heal your own demon, same as Kroshius in Felwood.

... even with the 2 adds. What you do is to focus on one of the non-elites, kill it, then run away and regen health/mana. Then start the fight again, kill the other one, run, regen. Then kill boss. Did it as 59 druid myself. I'm sure it's possible at lower levels although the first fight where you get beat upon by all 3 may be hard -&nbsp it was the only fight where I had to go out of bear to heal.

I managed to solo this as a 55 BM-specced Hunter. For the adds, I just freeze trapped one and took out the 56 Shaman first, ran away, came back and took out the 57 Ursa.

Soloing the chief was certainly no walk in the park. It helped that my bear had a Fort buff from a priest I had grouped with earlier. I basically just shot at him until my pet was close to death, spammed Mend Pet, and if he broke off my pet, feigned. I had to use 1 mana potion and me and my pet were nearly dead, but I got him.

Just completed this with my druid (55) I found it best to kill the add first, seeing as it was a shaman and If my memory serves me correctly they can heal so try kill him first then quickly knock down Chiefy himself.

No real trouble here you may want to clear the area outside a little if you want to fear the two but otherwise it shouldn't be difficult

* Be sure to pick up the book he drops as it leads on to another quest which gives a necklace Trinket

yep, not too hard

Immobilized chief with freezing trap then took on the two with him. a mana or hp pot should be all you need.

Unfortunately I didn't have the quest, was just walking around there.

easy enough for a lvl 55 hunter (BM). targeted the shammy first, wait till they are walking back into cave, sent pet, bw, shammy falls quick. fd and run over crest of hill. rez pet, repeat with the ursa, went after chief last, pet lost aggro once, healed pet as chief came at me, disengage, im at 75% health, chief is 25%, my manas spent, cross fingers and pull trigger on death ray, and that was that, death ray took me down to about 10% health. a lvl 60 orc came up the hill right as i was gettin ready to go in for the chief but he didnt go for him, im like "NOOOOOOO"! that may be the hardest thing about soloing it at that level, youll have to kill the shammy, FD and res pet, same with the ursa, so it takes a little bit,.. when i was up there the first time, i would kill the shammy, come down a bit to rez pet, and 2 lvl 60 cows kept comin in and takin the other 2 out. after they did it to me twice i went elsewhere for my entertainment that evening....ha ha. the respawn takes a good bit.&nbsp did it tonight in the middle of the night and only saw the orc. the willowband chestpiece is pretty sweet for a hunter at lvl 55!

So I first tried to take on all three at once and they kicked my ass. Just not enough mana and your bubble will disappear too fast. They stay tightly clumped so I couldn't find a way to pull any separately. Basically what I did after I recovered my corpse is to first clear the entire hill down to the next level, then go in and focus fire on the Shaman first (because he heals), kill him, and run away down the hill until the other two break off. Delay looting the corpse as that will delay him respawning until you finish. Mana up, then go back and kill the other normal, run away again if you're low, then repeat for the boss. He's tough with the other two but very easy 1 on 1 with full mana.

I soloed it without too much problems yesterday, with my lv57 hunter and alv56 cat pet - without pet dying once.

1. first step - as mentioned before - send pet on the lv56 shaman. with both me and my pet focusing on him, he was dead when my pet was on a littel lest then half health left.

2. next i focused on the lv58 ursa. while getting it down to half health more or less, pet was becoming dangerously low on health. I started to mend pet, and as expected, the elite quickly turned against me. I let it hit me for a while, and used a health potion, while I and pet continue to kill the ursa. when It started getting dangerous, I used feign death, and the elite turned back to the pet, but too late to save the ursa that was nearly dead at that stage.

3. now it was me and a very wounded pet against the elite - i just mended pet again and again, till the battle was done. Once the healing caused the pet to lose agro, so i had to use feign death again. From that point and further, the battle was very straight-forword, and the elite died soon after.

thats it :-)

Actually, it's not really impossible to solo. I managed to pull this off with a 55 fire mage. (With a healing potion)

THE KEY is getting that damn shaman down ASAP. His heals will screw up any hopes you have of soloing this one, if he's not takin out fast. You could even kill him, and run away... If you return after that, he doesn't respawn like some guards. Just an idea.

He isnt very hard, but its hard with hes guards.
Im 57 warlock. I got the two guards by fearing the others and killing it with void taking agro. After their death I ran away until they stopped chasing me. Did the same with the other, and then the boss.. VERY easy for a lvl 59 elite.. didnt even sacrifice, deathcoil or anything.. only drain life..
There you have it, out.

Basically couldn't find anyone to help me with it, so I decided to try it anyway.

On my first attempt I sent my pet (54 scorpid) on the elite and tried to DPS him to death. Got him to about 65% before the pet died, then FD was resisted and I died.

Second attempt I did the same thing but made more of an effort to keep my pet healed. Ran out of mana with the chief still at 50%, and died shortly after.

Third attempt I did what the hunter above suggested -- sacrifice the pet a couple of times to pick off his henchmen, then attempt the chief with fresh HP/mana bars. On the chief fight, I sent in the pet with Intimidation and activated BW once the chief was stunned, then opened up with everything I had&nbsp -- Rapid fire + IAotH proc = much pain -- lots of misses however :(. I healed the pet whenever it dipped below 1000 HP (important because the chief has a Frost Shock attack that does about 350 damage and his regular attack will do 200-250).

Got him to 30% before the pet lost aggro (growl was resisted a lot too), then wingclip-kited him the rest of the way down. Intimidation came up near the end so I used it again and finished him off. Me and the pet were at about 40% health in the end, no pots necessary.

A very easy 59 elite once you get the tactic down. Like the others above, I had a much harder time killing Ursius.

Just did quest. Lvl 60 destruction spec lock. Did just as message above said. Took out non-elite shaman first, then ran like a little girl. Lost VW in the process. Regen mana and health and resummoned VW. Went back and took out ursa. This time agro held better on VW, so after taking out ursa still had 3/4 health and 50% mana left. Instead of running decided to stay to take out boss. Just hit COA, CORR, Immolate, and Rain of Fire, then COA and CORR again, ran out of mana hit with Searing Needle dagger twice and he was down. Didn't use any health or mana pots at all but had just a sliver of health left when I was done.

Hope this helps the priest and lets everyone else know if a priest can do it then anyone can.

As a warrior it seemed easy the first time I did it. Charge, weapons buffed, strength was over 300, and after the initial hit, scream scare away the bodyguards, hit a potion, done...seemed easy until the second time. Strength was only 250 and instead of hitting a health potion I went with a rage potion. The tactic failed.

If you are a warrior just make sure you go with a health potion and your strength is over 300. Of course having your weapons buffed is a given.

The others run away and you're off scot free. Only had to kill one other lvl 56 Winterfall Mob for this further down the mountain. Woo hoo!
