Description

Elemental leatherworking is what I know, and if you're willing to open your mind to the greater powers of substance, I will share with you all there is to learn.

Know this, <class>: by choosing this path you agree never to learn dragonscale or tribal leatherworking; there is only room for practice of one of the three arts. Furthermore, I'll need adequate proof that you are in tune with the elements of nature; to that end, bring me the purest essences of fire, water, earth, and wind.

Ok I've seen a lot of questions about this and a lot of half answers.&nbsp So this is what I have learned from over a year of WoW.

Dragonscale Leatherworking - Obviously meant for Shamans and Hunters since it is mail.&nbsp It leans more towards the shamans tho as most of the items are spirit/stamina based.&nbsp Hunters and Enhancement Shamans want the Black Dragonscale armour set from this specialization.&nbsp It gives stamina, fire resist, and MASSIVE attack power (which helps both ranged and melee).&nbsp As for Elemental and Restoration Shamans you want to look into the Blue Dragonscale set as mentioned before.

Tribal Leatherworking - This specialization is geared more towards Druids.&nbsp It has the Ironfeather set for casting and the Devilsaur set.&nbsp The Devilsaur is also good for rogues but not worth it for just those two pieces alone when you can get someone else to make.&nbsp The Ironfeather plus Devilsaur Set combo on a Druid makes for a GREAT Hybrid.&nbsp There are also the Warbear items to boost a Feral Druids attack power and stamina massively.&nbsp This specialization also contains the Wolfshead Helm which is druid specific as it grants rage and energy when you shapeshift into Cat or Bear form.

Elemental Leatherworking - This is more or less the Rogue's specialization.&nbsp Most the items in it are either agility based, critical hit based, or chance to hit based.&nbsp Very little strength increasing gear since it isn't as important on a Rogue.&nbsp This specialization though is also one of the best ways to get your resistance gear for endgame dungeons (Volcanic Set is a prime example).&nbsp Do to that it is also not a bad choice for Druids who want to make all their own resistance gear instead of farming.&nbsp A Cat druid will aslo benefit greatly from the items in this specialization (afterall...a Cat Druid works almost identical to a rogue).

Hope this helps.

Obtaining Elemental Leatherworking
(Thanks everyone! I've taken information from various posts and decided to put it all together for those that would like to pursue this trade skill)

In order to get the quest, you'll need to be:
At least level 40 and have a leatherworking skill of 225.
Alliance:
You can obtain the quest "Elemental Leatherworking" from Sarah Tanner in the Searing Gorge. You can find her around 63, 75. For those without coordinates, you can find her along the South East wall. Once you pass the robot, just keep following the wall - there's no need to try to climb the mountains to reach her.

Horde:
You can obtain the quest "Elemental Leatherworking" from Brum Winterhoof in Arathi Highlands. You can find him West of Refugee Point, around 28, 45.

In order to complete the quest required from both NPCs,
you'll want to have the following mats with you:
* 2 x [url=http://classicdb.ch/?item=7077]Heart of Fire
* 2 x [url=http://classicdb.ch/?item=7075]Core of Earth
* 2 x [url=http://classicdb.ch/?item=7079]Globe of Water
* 2 x [url=http://classicdb.ch/?item=7081]Breath of Wind
I did a little research to help myself and others find the most beneficial spots for obtaining all of the mats required to complete the quest for both NPCs.

Materials needed and where you can get them:

*Personally, I suggest you try to go for the Hearts, Cores and Globes in Felwood. I like to get as many items in one area as possible. Of course, I did this with my rogue ;) Those players that can travel or don't mind taking the time may choose to bounce to the other spots.

* 2 x Heart of Fire

I grinded out the Entropic Horrors and Entropic Beasts in the Shatter Scar Vale for these. You can find them around 40, 43 in Felwood. Click on the links to see map locations, if you do not use coordinates.
Remember this: When you're hunting these it may seem like there aren't very many. If you loop around the back there are quite a few more. So, you should be safe with running circles and not run out of mobs to kill.

Other suggested mobs include the fire elementals in Un'Goro Crater. You can find them around Fire Plume Ridge, near 52, 44 (almost the very center of the map).

* 2 x Core of Earth

I also got these in Felwood. These are also located in the Shatter Scar Vale. The Infernal Sentry and Infernal Bodyguards had a decent drop rate for me. Of course, killing them while killing the mobs above at the same time made this quick :) Again, remember to run around the back so you can keep a fast flow of grinding.

Other suggested mobs include Desert Rumblers around level 57 in Silithus - coordinates are approximately 26, 15.

* 2 x Globe of Water

Guess what? I also got these in Felwood! These dropped decently for me (at level 58) from the Toxic Horrors found in the center of Iron Tree Woods. Coordinates are approximately 49, 24. Make a loop around the water being sure to check the ones in the back. These do poison, but are fairly easy to take down.

* 2 x Breath of Wind

Alright, now these were a PITA in my opinion. Firstly, it really depends on your level and which mobs you'd prefer to grind for this. I found that I'd rather stay in a concentrated area and kill for my drops, versus running around a zone for 2 hours. So, I traveled to Silithus and hunted the Whirling Invaders and Dust Stormers. You can find them around 33, 15 - in Northwestern Silithus. I got 3 (I got the additional drop on my way out - figures!) within 45 minutes. But of course, this depends on your luck, level and kill speed. A level 70 will most certainly get this drop faster. A word of caution, there is an elite that patrols this area with 3 guards. He's fairly easy to spot, however, so don't stress it!

The other suggested mobs for this item are the Gusting Vortex in Tanaris. According to a very helpful post, you can patrol this zone. It seems that there are two good spawn points for these mobs (around 44, 47 and 48, 62). These mobs do share their spawn points with the rock elementals. If they are spawned, don't turn and run - kill them so you continue the rotation. From what I understand the spawn points listed usually respawn about every 15 minutes or so. Other than that, you can check out the spawn points on the mob link above. The spawn points seem pretty random, so just mount up and make a run. It's also helpful to make a /target macro to assist with spotting the mobs.

Sorry for the terribly long post - but I'm the kind of person that likes to find all the information I need in one spot :) Hopefully this information will be helpful and make your task a little easier!

Happy WoWin'!

Heart of Fire - looks like the best drop rate are with the fire elementals in the un'goro crater. reports are about, 2 for about 30m minutes of killing.

Glode of Water - looks like the popular spot are the toxic Horrors in Felwood reports of like 2 - 8 drops on them in about a hour or so.

Core of Earth - Silithus around Crystal Vale, but that requires to be lvl 55+, also try Maruadon never heard a complaint about it ever dropping, in fact people were encouraging it.

Breath of Wind - This one i looted once and vendored not knowing (<~~retard me).
this is quoted off of the Breath of Wind thread.

- Begin by searching the area immediately SouthWest of the Broken Pillars.&nbsp I found 2 roaming spawns here. (Spawns are the Gusting Vortex's and storm's)

- Proceed south until you are just north of the Eastmoon Ruins.&nbsp I found 1 roaming spawn here which roams north of the Eastmoon Ruins on a west-east course.

- Proceed NorthEast and follow along the side of the Gaping Chasm (do not enter) until you are North of the Gaping Chasm.&nbsp I found 2 roaming spawns in this area.

- Head back to the area SouthWest of the Broken Pillars.&nbsp Rinse & Repeat.

This is very tedious but allows you to kill elementals non-stop.&nbsp Bring a hunter with you to find the elementals easier.&nbsp (Also, it seems at least that being in a group increases the chance of the Breath dropping, though this is unconfirmed

Check a leatherworking FAQ such as this one: http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=282

1) You need 255 skill, lvl40, artisan to get this quest.
2) The trainer who gives you specialization quests such as these is different from the artisan trainer.&nbsp The artisan trainers are in Aerie Peak (A) and Camp Mojache (H).
3) Check thottbot for where you can get the items for completing the quest.&nbsp You can even buy them off the AH.
4) There's lots of debate over which specialization is best for which class check the FAQ, Blizz WoW profession forums, etc., for more information.

Alrighty.&nbsp Level 45 rogue here, Horde side.

So I was running around Tanaris picking up eggs for the Artisan cooking quest in Gadgetzan when an earth elemental of some sort rumbled past me.&nbsp "Hmm," I thought.&nbsp "Perhaps some elemental earth for my earthen shoulders recipe?" and I killed it.&nbsp Imagine my surprised when he dropped a Core of Earth.&nbsp I looked it up and found it was used for the Elemental Leatherworking quest and so decided to finally solidify the LW branch I would be using.&nbsp I already had 243/300 leatherworking (picked up Artisan from the guy in Feralas as mentioned) and knew where all 3 leatherworking specialization trainers were located so I trotted over to Arathi Highlands and got this quest.
I figured those 4 types of elementals in the Circles of Binding around there would drop the required materials and, at level 37-39, I figured it would be easy going.&nbsp I wiped out the whole Circle of fire elementals and got coal, burning pitch, some lame charm, and a lame green item.&nbsp Finally looked up the items on Anonymous and realized two things.&nbsp
First: THOSE elementals don't drop the necessary items.&nbsp Bah.&nbsp
Second: at level 45, I'm looking at very low drop rates off of mobs scattered ALL over the continents or paying the Big Bux for them in the AH.&nbsp
Oh well...looks like I'll just put this off for a bit and if I happen to pick up the items in my travels, I'll finish this off.&nbsp Eventually.

Regarding leatherworking and scale mail armour...
I recently made some decent money off of crafting and selling Turtle Scale armour.&nbsp The turtles in Tanaris on the East Coast drop turtle scale when you skin them at a relatively decent drop rate.&nbsp Additionally, the scorpids that roam about sometimes (but not often) cough up scorpid scale to feed your other non-specialized scale mail leatherworking recipes.&nbsp You do not have to specialize in Dragonscale leatherworking to get scale mail armour.&nbsp You DO have to specialize to get the nifty supercool dragonscale armour (if you want to make it yourself).
Recipes for the Turtle Scale and Scorpid armours can be found in the AH sometimes for varying prices from good to ridiculous.&nbsp Keep watch and check the LW recipes section frequently for usable recipes at low prices and snatch them up.

Regarding which specialization to choose...
What I recommend doing is coordinate with the other leatherworkers in your guild to make sure you have all of the leatherworking specializations covered so you don't end up with a whole guild full of dragonscale crafters or something.&nbsp
That's my two copper.

I've started gathering the materials for this quest and it is quite a pain. I'm rather stingy and don't relish the thought of spending large amounts of gold on the AH with my epic mount looming so close. So if you're like me, here's what I've done so far:

To get the Breath of Wind, farm Gusting Vortex in Tanaris. They have an amazing drop rate, I got both of mine in around 10 minutes or less.
http://classicdb.ch/?npc=8667

To get the Globe of Water, farm Muck Splash in Searing Gorge. These also have a high drop rate; I got two globe in 15 or so minutes.
http://classicdb.ch/?npc=8837

I have yet to get either the Core of Earth or the Heart of Fire, but I'll post again once I've found a good place to do so.

Heart of Fire is quite easy to obtain.
In Felwood, north-east of the Horde flightmaster are some craters where you'll find http://classicdb.ch/?npc=9878, and http://classicdb.ch/?npc=7135. The entropic beasts despawn after a while, but there are a lot of them so it shouldn't be a problem.
The infernal bodyguard walk around so you have to search around for them. They're big though, so they're easy to spot. :p
The bodyguards also see through stealth, so if you're going to solo as a rogue/feral druid, expect a challenge there.

Otherwise, this is cake. I farmed for about an hour and got 10 heart of fires, 2 core of earths, some elemental fires and essences of fire. Not to forget the crapload of core of elements.

Edit: Handy place to farm if you're going to get the http://classicdb.ch/?item=8348 and http://classicdb.ch/?item=29964, which are sold by the same trainer that teaches you elemental leatherworking. Do it all in one session and you'll get a lot of xp to show for too. :)'

Edit2: There's also a lot of bears dropping rugged leather north-west of there. Basically a golden grinding spot for any upcoming leatherworker.

Good luck!

From what I can tell, through running around, specialization doesn't matter except for the Burning Crusades.&nbsp Thus far I've learned all the tribal and Dragonskin pats the trainers have for 60 and under.&nbsp They have many more I can't learn for over 60/300.

Ok...This is how is goes.

Pre- "Before the Storm" patch which was 2.0.0. You could not change Leatherworking specialities if you dropped the skill totally and then leveled the skill up again. You were stuck with whatever speciality you chose for good.

Post- "Before the Storm" patch. The option to drop a speciality was given to the chat log for every Speciality Leatherworking trainer. I haven't checked it out to see the cost of dropping a speciality yet because I chose the right path for my shaman (Dragonscale for him).

One thing that should be noted is that you can now train in all the basic BOE patterns from any Leatherworking Speciality. Whether they be from a trainer or from pattern drops. I myself picked up the patterns for the Wolfshead Helm and Molten Helm from the Trainers in STV and Arathi Highlands. This means that no matter what path you take you can learn any and all Tribal, Elemental, and Dragonscale patterns that are not designed to be BOP items from the prodcution of them (this include the epic DM cloak patterns).

You CAN now change specialties.

Go to the trainer who originally taught you your specialty. Speak to him and you can pay 100g to unlearn your specialty. Then go to a hut just north of steamwheedle port in Tanaris (about 65,18). There is a book on the table in the hut which when you read it lets you choose your new specialty.

I did this about a week ago to switch from Tribal to Elemental.
