Finally found the crier. Here's the text for those who have missed the beginning of the event (it is not a yell so you have to be close enough to him to hear it)

Southshore Crier says: Hear ye! Hear ye! *pant pant* Be warned citizens of Southshore: assassins are heading to our fair town!

Southshore Crier says: Guards to your posts! They must be after the Magistrate again. He must be protected! They could come from any direction!

Southshore Cirer says: Assassins... save... th... Magistraaa...

*Southshore Cirer dies.*

The Assassins pop right after you complete the "nobles death" quest.

Well did quest yet again and they didn't pop this time but at exactly 22:20 pst the town crier can scooting into town and yelled about assassins. Will test tommorrow again at 22:20 to see if it is time, and the last 2 times was just a massive coincidence.

Of note I had completed the noble deaths quest about 30 min earlier heh.

The people here make it seem as if it is very hard to find assassains. I'm on rexxar, and I made a circle around the stable up and down the coast and behind town hall. I was attacked at least twice each time, however I had to attack 6 groups before I could loot one. This is because whenever an assassain or assassains appear, a group of two or three gaurds will show up and kill them before I could tap. Just got lucky that the gaurds happened to focus on one of the assassains while I damaged the other enough to tap him.

Nobody knows a way to make them spawn? This is driving me nuts. I'm wondering what exactly Blizzard was thinking, making one of the Alterac quests only startable off an item drop from an (apparently) very rare spawn :(

The crier showed up in town at 21:36 and said this:
Southshore Guard says: Protect the Magistrate at all costs. They could come from any direction!
Southshore Guard says: Get to your posts! Let no invader reach Southshore!
Southshore Guard says: Anyone suspicious is to be taken down quickly. Get to your posts as quickly as possible!
Southshore Guard says: Anyone suspicious is to be taken down quickly. Get to your posts as quickly as possible!
Southshore Crier grabs the back of his neck and his eyes go wide.
Southshore Crier says: Assassins... save... th... Magistraaa...
Then I followed Farmer Kent around...the Assassins seem to think he's an easy target because they kept attacking him.

The Assassin's Contract drops from Shadowy Assassins that randomly spawn and attack you in Southshore, be quick to 'tag' them before the guards do, or you won't be able to loot it.

The South Shore Syndicate guys showed up after I started the quest to warn the Magistrate that the Syndicate had war plans. You get the plans on the tables between the tents when you do the Signet rings quest. After you wipe out the Syndicate guys check the table between the tents for 2 documents. After you go back to South Shore you'll notice the Syndicate guys start attacking town, then they will drop the contract for this quest.

Actually, a bit of experiment shows that a) the assassins spawn near where you are, in pairs, every few minutes, but only if you're in or near Southshore proper, and b) they start spawning _once you accept the Syndicate Assassins quest_. So spend a little time in town after you take that FIRST quest, rather than (as one of my characters did) rushing out to immediately kill them all...

He's there for about a minute after he yells. The Assassins keep appearing for about half an hour after he yells, every few minutes. The -first- ones, this time, appeared in the spot down by the boats off the dock. And ... apparently you have to do at least half the damage to one to get looting rights, which is difficult with the guards all over town, so because of that I recommend down by the boats OR wait very patiently inside the Town Hall by the Magistrate - about the third or fourth spawn is inside the Hall, away from the guards.

And you don't have to have any other quests up to get the Contract ... luckily for my L43 warrior who didn't know about this quest the first time around (and who spent just now about a week trying to be there when Assassins were appearing).

The Shadowy Assassins make an all-out attempt to kill the magistrate once a day, and I believe it happens after nightfall in game time. For me the attack started around 11 PM. The assassins will spawn all over the town, some moving about and some staying still. I got the quest in the middle of a horde attack on South Shore so if you're around when the assassins begin their assault you should have no problem killing at least one, even with the guards and other players getting in the way.

The assassins come in several waves. First at least one assassin appeared in the middle of Southsore, and just moments after two of them appeared inside the inn. When I went outside, two of them spawned again in the middle of town. There could have been more, but I saw at least three. I don't know how frequently they appear, but they are not triggered by any quests. You can kill them regardless of what quests you have or don't have.

I found the quest by pure luck, as did my friend. We stood outside the town hall wondering what to do next, when I was attacked by a lone assassin. With me being in my low 30s and my friend being 28, we couldn't do much, but a guard pitched in to help. Oddly enough, although the guard did most of the work, we got a tiny bit of XP for it and found the contract. (We were grouped together.)

Funny how level 37 assassins think they can kill a level 60 elite mage, huh?

Yeah, Rhag Gharmason is wrong. You need to loot the contract off of some "Shadowy Assassins" outside the town hall in Southshore.

However, I haven't figured out the way to get them to spawn yet and it seems to be random...

I have been in Southshore many times when no assassins were spawning. A few other times I was attacked by single assassins just outside of town behind the inn, in the graveyard, and in the field in front of the tower without the quest. Last night they were spawning two at a time in the middle of town at a rate of about once every 5 minutes. People were just standing around waiting to jump on them. I had 2 spawn right next to me while I was at the mailbox. They start out stealthed but they're still easy to see and they have a distinctive sound when they appear. One or two hits brings them to light. At lvl 42 I had no trouble taking both out and got credit for both kills even though other people and guards jumped in at the end. One of them had the quest.

ok seems to be a lot of confusion over this quest... Im lvl 53 and whilst sitting in southshore after some horde thrashing i noticed some assassins attacking a guard and jumped in to help, purely out of boredom. from one I got the quest and next thing I know 2 more appeared. Killed them and another 2, and after killing them the yellow/gold dot appeared for the hand-in which led to the next quest. simple as that.

Dunno why people complain so much about quests. i dont imagine for one second that the game is designed purely for people to follow a set path, but to discover various things as they travel through the game. if u get the quest then complete it, if not then move on :)

I was just happily fishing in Southshore (left of the wood platform, next to the two boats), when two of these attacked me. I actually managed to get one of them to 1% and the other to aroung 60% before I died (bad luck, i know). I then saw them twice being killed by the guards. While waiting for the fish schools to spawn again, I decided to go check out the herbs next to the griffons, and got jumped by them again. I managed to kill one, while a guard killed another. The thing dropped. I wonder if the quest is shareable?

I do wonder what kind of spawn there is for these guys as I have been just fishing (logging in for 10-15 mins every hour) for the past 4 days and it's the first time i saw them.

Jibrille, it adds excitment to an otherwise boring visit to a town. At lvl 30 I was in the river hunting turtles for the recipe quest when I was just dead. Rezzed and saw them just before they (lvl 37) killed me again. Died 5 more times before I had enough turtle meat. Now I'm lvl 40 and this druid is looking for some payback. :)

I don't know what kind of time spawn are on these, but I was a lvl 35 (just hit) mage, doing the quest for the drunk soldier in the inn (kill the murlocs and stuff) - I had all kinds of quests sitting in my log I hadn't started yet, including Noble Deaths and Dark Council. I was standing on the hill after just killing one murloc (where the mountains part on the beach, there's a path between the beach and part of the forest behind town hall - coordinates 42,62), and heard a battle behind me - I turned around and a lvl 30 was being attacked by these 2 lvl 38 assassins. I jumped in and killed one, she was doing her best against the other. I finished mine off, but died before I could help her. I went back and got my body and the second one attacked me immediately. At least the guard was close enough to help this time. I got the contract no problem and turned it in, which obviously leads to killing the Baron (which I haven't even contemplated yet, as it's all red).

I hope this helps.

I think the Assassins may just be a random spawn. I spent about 10 minutes looking for them, and just ran outside of Southshore for a while. Eventually, I found them both stealthed a little east of the graveyard. Both of them dropped the contract for me.

Hope this helps.

On my 36 Hunter, I was just sitting around Southshore half-AFK doing some reading for school, and the event with the Southshore Crier happened. A couple minutes afterwards, several sets of Assassins showed up. I was able to get the tag on one of them, and got the quest. I know I didn't trigger it, so I have to guess it's just a random occurrence - was right around noon server time. Good luck to all of you trying to get this one.

You do not need to finish Noble Deaths first to get this quest. I repeat, you do NOT need to finish Noble Deaths first to get the assassins contract.

I went to IF to get the encrypted letter translated. Just for clarity, I also travelled to SW to return the books to Milton Sheaf. I then hearthed back to South Shore, gave the letter to to the magistrate, and began the quest to hunt down Nagaz.

I proceeded to the inn to log, and right when I stepped in, two assassins popped out at me and attacked me. One guard attacked one, but I quickly targeted the other one. Guards helped, they died, I received the contract.

I have Noble Deaths, Baron's Demise, and Shadow Council all in my quest log right now--proof that you CAN get this quest BEFORE completing Noble Deaths.

I was reading my mails outside the SS inn - got jumped by 2 assassin - killed em and got the Q.

1 min later another two came along - they dropped the Q too.

Maybe its because i joined the server in a "off hour" that i got to fight a lot of them (like 5 times in 15 min) - but they seem to spawn very often.

just make sure to tag em before the guards start jitting them.
