To get old sooty (yes, coord: 37, 62)

Without coordinates:

The mountains directly SOUTH of Thelsamar is a cave, the entrance is on the east side. You'll see a little cave on the map...that's it. Grab a spot on the rock overlooking the entrance. i waited 20 minutes-yeah, long time. get ready for that long a wait. But he does come sauntering up the hill to the cave.&nbsp He's got about 1400hit points. beat VERY easily at lvl 24 mage.

Although it appears from the rewards and the quest names that this is a hunter quest, any alliance can do this series.

Theres a cave on your map, go to it. You'll have to go up a spiralling dirt path with 1 lvl 14 bear on the path. Once you get up to the top, theres one Patriarch or sumthing around lvl 18. Kill that, look inside the cave and Ol' Sooty should be in there all by his lonesome. I tamed him with my 20 NE hunter with about 1/5 of my health left. He's a fairly easy kill. What made me mad was Ol' Sooty is a big bear but when you tame him he beomes smaller than the level 10 bears...kinda embarrassing...:D

When you turn Ol'Sooty's head in to Daryl the Youngling you get 775 experience, or at least I did as a priest at level 19. The next piece, where he refuses the head and tells you to give it to Vyrin, gets you 1550 experience at 19, and you have a choice of a 10-slot quiver or a 10-slot ammo bag.

Ran into Sooty yesterday while wandering in the hills just south of the loch. He's on top of a hill (Grizzled Den area or some such) before you reach the southern tip of the lake from the road. At 15 he ate my pet and I barely made it out.

He's an Elite mob and part of the series of Hunters quests. First you kill the 6 buzzards (quest 1), then 6 boars (quest 2). After the boars there is another quest waiting for you in the hunters lodge where the other two took place. She asks you to kill Sooty (quest 3).

Though I need another level or two before attempting him seriously, I understand that the reward for this quest is a 10-slot ammo bag. I assume the option is there for a quiver as well if you use a bow.

I do not know if this quest is hunter-specific or if other classes can do it as well.

L19 Dwarven Hunter (with Engineering).

I blame my Deadly Blunderbuss for how easy it was :)

And the small bronze bomb I used halfway through, which gave my poor pet a bit of a reprieve.

Dropped trash and his head for the quest. Oh well. Nice ammo pouch compared to what I already had . . .

Kill the level 16 just outside the cave (the coords below are perfect). Make sure frost armor and AI are up. Mana up and enter the cave. At max distance fireball, fireball, fireblast, frost nova, back up fireball, fireball, (your in melee now) turn run AE,AE, frost nova, drink your pot as you back up, wand as mana regens then fireball, fireball, fireblast.

At lvl 19 he resisted three maybe four spells. I finished with about 1/4 health and little mana and I was well down the hill. Frost armor is critical as it slows him down enough to keep room between you some of the time.

you are correct, quiver also, and all classes can do the quests.

you failed to mention, the hunter challange quests (buzzard/boar) are timed quests, buzzards you have 14 minutes, boars 12 minutes

At 15 you can kill Ol' Sooty, just bring a friend along. If ya really wanna feel safe and secure, bring 2 friends.

Just wanted to mention that he resides inside the cave. Takes quite a while to respawn.
