When Smokey Sings, I Get Violent

Travel to Plaguewood, northwest of Light's Hope. Destroy 8 Scourge Structures by using Smokey's Special Compound at the Mark of Detonation planted inside each building. Smokey has had the Ziggurats and Slaughterhouses marked.

Once you plant the bomb, leave the building and marvel at your handiwork.

By the way, Smokey's Special Compound is rather... unstable.
  •
Scourge Structures Destroyed (8)
Provided Item:
Smokey's Special Compound

Description

While you were gathering the supplies, I had some of my people handle marking the Scourge buildings we need demolished.

Here's the plan: I'm going to give you ten sticks of my special compound. You're going to take them over to Plaguewood and plant them inside the Scourge structures that I've had marked for detonation.

<Smokey snaps his fingers.>

Bing! It's just that easy.

Just a nerdy point here.

Much as the 'All along the Watchtowers' quest takes its name from the Bob Dylan song and later covered more famously (arguably) by Jimi Hendrix, this quest name also has its roots in Pop Music.

'When Smoky Sings' is a song by the 80's British Group ABC and is about Smoky Robinson. Interestingly, the actual words of the song are 'When Smoky sings, I hear violins'. However, the WoW Designer who named this quest obviously heard this line (as I did when I heard it first) as: 'When Smoky Sings, I get violent'.

Tickled me pink that both the designer and myself had misheard the same line and that we had a shared cultural link.

Told you it was nerdy :-)

If you're of the patient type, you can simply wait 5 minutes or so in a tower after blowing it up and the mark will respawn, so you can blow it up again. Saves time getting past the elites at the entrances to the towers when you're soloing it.

Here is my recomendation for a warrior... a lazy warrior... such as myself =)

Jog into one of the Ziggarauts (sp) and you'll die doing so.&nbsp Rez yourself on top of the Mark of Detonation, quickly kill the spider/bug thing (usually a lvl 55 or 56) then set off the bomb.

Wait there... it only takes about 3 more minutes for the Mark of Detonation to respawn.

You can knock off all of them and all while munchin down some McPukes too!

You cant stealth past the elite as he's completely blocking the entrance. Run inside agroing the elite and jump in the pool. You dont need to go underwater, just jump in and more towards the non-elite until the elite stops hitting you. Wait 30sec and he will run back. Kill the non-elite and camp the marker just behind it.

One thing to note that no-one else has mentioned...

When you set the bomb off it will hit you with fire-damage for aprox 800. So be carefull if you have just killed spider and dont have much hp left, heal 1st =)

just done spot for the 3rd time with no deaths yet.. Goodluck =)

For the Zigg buildings:

Dismiss Pet, place Ice trap before Guard Elite, pull into trap. Only reason I say to freeze instead of just running by and FD'ing after is because this guard and the slaughterhouse one have nasty 45 second slow attacks that can screw you up.

Pop Aspect of Cheetah and run past frosty elite and Feign Death at the middle of the stairs as to not aggro the easier guard near blasting point.

Get back up from FD and call pet if needed to kill inside guard. Hes not that tough so its up to you. Place bomb and thats one down. Now to get back out I just rinse and repeat the Ice Trap again. Be careful though because both elite guards pop that slowing effect pretty quick.

For the slaughterhouses you have to worry about the elite guy. Same thing, place ice trap on stairs and pull big guy into it. Once frozen pop Cheetah, run in and stay in the middle (4 other guys wont aggro you as long as you stay in middle) and place bomb. Run back out and FD.

I solo'ed this at lvl 58 or 59.

The guy above is right...

1 - Buy an invisibility potion.

2 - Go to 43,26 to where you see the tall green tower

3 - swallow the invis, run past the guard, kill the guy in the back, and plant the bomb every time there is a respawn of it.

4 - hearth out (or deathwarp)

Reward for quest is 2.65 gold, so you'll get your money back on the invis potion.

This quest is easy as pie with a priest. Solo or in a group - just shackle the elites, run in kill the single non-elite (if there is one - the abomination types just need the single shackle) and set the bomb - run out and reshackle the elite to give you room to run. Lather - rinse - repeat.

Hunters lvl54+ can solo this easily...

Tactic :

1. Plant a Frost Trap
2. Pull Elite
3. Let him Freeze
4. Go in, FD
5. Call Pet and fight non elite guard at the detonator

Do that in each house, takes like 10-15min.

Rogues cant do that, cause the elite are Undead...

Oh and btw... they proc a Snare with -40 run speed which lasts for 30 sec =) so...

Any priest can solo this of course, simply shackle the elite guardian and fight the wimp inside. It's so easy that you shouldn't even wait for the mark to respawn, just hit any zig until you get all 8.

Choose which one you will enter. I am currently in the one at 21, 24.

Divine shield and run in, right past the 58 Elite, jump into green goo, and wait for aggro to drop, so they leave to their spawn points. As soon as this happens exit goo, kill Crypt Walker, and use explosives on the blue spot.

You will take damage, but nothing bad.. Jump back in green goop and wait it out. Like stated above its about a 3 min wait inbetween bombs.

Once you have all 8, divine shield and run out. You never have to kill anything above 54.. (or atleast I didnt)

Easy cheese.

There are at least 6 locations around Plaguewood. Each one is marked on the map. here are a few entry locations that I found while doing this quest.
  • 43:27 Entrance - Guarded by a Ghoul 58 Elite ~17000HP - Detects Stealth - Stationary Mob
  • 33:31 Entrance - Guarded by a Abomination 58 Elite ~15000HP - Detects Stealth - Patroling Mob - More 58 non elites inside that wont aggro to get to the marker.
  • 40:40 Entrance - Guarded by a Ghoul 58 Elite ~17000HP - Detects Stealth - Stationary Mob
  • 27:34 Entrance - Guarded by a Ghoul 58 Elite ~17000HP - Detects Stealth - Stationary Mob
  • 24:25 Entrance - Guarded by a Ghoul 58 Elite ~17000HP - Detects Stealth - Stationary Mob
I believe there is at least 1 more location at 35:18, but I have not been there so I don't know what guards it or the exact location. It took 2 people for us to do this and it was just doable, Shadow Priest and Feral Druid (tank) both level 57.

Method of just sitting there and taking out the markers as they respawn is cool, but I wouldn't do it if it's not a ghoul protecting due to the Abomination patrols inside, the markers seems to respawn 3x as fast as the mob inside and the protector at the entrance.

This quest is real easy. Just take off all your armor (in case you die, you might a couple times), stun the elite (or something of the like).
Just get to the green water inside the zig before it wears off (he almost always land an Incapacitating Shout, so you'd better get used to walking 40% of normal). Swim up to the raised platform as close as you can get so he cant touch you.
Once he goes into Evade mode and leaves, you can walk right by the Crypt Walker (it doesnt attack for some reason, but puts you in combat and watches you). Place the mark, and get ready to stun him on your way out. Feign Death is a good thing to have now if you want to minimize your deaths.

Ok guys here is the easiest way --

Go to the Building, in EPL, 43,26.

There is an elite, and a caster or spider non elite inside.

Kill the elite.. OR,.. Just run in.. run up to the marker, and back allt he way to the wall (this is important) -- Try to setoff a bomb.. if not.. die.

Ressurect there.. Make sure you are ALL the way to the back of the pillar/wall that is behind the marker.

From then on out, the mobs will not attack you.. You might go into "combat", but they will not move.

So you just wait till it respawns 8 times, and then hearth, or run out and die again.

SO perhaps two deaths depending on how you get out.

This will work for any class,.. as no class specific abilities are mentioned here.

I highly recommend it to save heartache if your not an uber "59-60" level.

Best of luck!

At first I thought I would need help, but after I read all of your very helpful comments, I managed to do it solo.

Level 57 Dwarf Hunter. Went up to the building. Tried to place a Frost Trap but I placed the wrong trap down and only slowed him (and myself) down.
Tried to FD near the 55 Spider, he left me. Undid it, called my pet and tried to attack the spider, but the Elite was back, and killed me.

Went in again, rezzed near the Spider, Elite saw me AGAIN and killed me... :P

3rd time, I was able to not arrgo the Elite and kill the spider.
Planted the 8 charges, then let my pet attack the Elite and put him on Stay while I run away with Aspect of the Cheetah.

It took time, but it was worth getting a better cloak.
Plus it's Red. My favorite color. :)

Why bother dying? Use an invis potion, or the poison pool of water.&nbsp Better yet, if you're a priest... or you can, get a priest to shackle undead the elite.&nbsp Run past, plant bomb, run out.&nbsp You don't even have to sit and wait for the respawn (boring!).&nbsp Just run to next tower and do it again.

I finished this quest in under 10 minutes with my priest. Didn't have to wait at all, just ran between&nbsp 3 of the ziggarauts and saved myself about 20 minutes of time not waiting for respawns.

Did it today on Aerie Peak. First thing to keep in mind is, yes, the marks reset, so once you're ina zig, you can do it countless times.

The way We did it, and this is good if you have a large group of lazy people, isas follows: I sent my pet after the elite, and ran off, out of range, so I could call him back after my team mate was inside, and I was out of aggro range. Then, he did it 8 times, staying inside, and only having to kill the non-elites that spawn. I stood on the steps, and waited while he did this, and got credit. When he was rdy to leave, I sent pet to distract elite, he escaped, and we were done. This works solo as a Hunter as well, if you want to sacrifice pet. Get pet too draw aggro, go in, FD near non-elite, kill non-elite, rez pet, place bomb, rinse, repeat.

Easy to do as a priest.

Shackle the guard, run into the room.
if its a humanoid nonelite, just fear and set the trap and jump left or right and run out the door.

The elite does tend to break shackle earlier then lower levels which can slow you down (literly)

You can run from the 40,37 one to 43,25 and by the time you get to each they mark has respawn.

Also I was able to solo the elite (bairly) in shadow form buffed.&nbsp But it takes too long to mindblast + flay + shackle kite them.

Complete easily as a Level 57 Warrior with a Level 60 Hunter in group.

Hunter drops trap and uses gun/bow to pull elite.&nbsp Warrior ran into the structure, killed the non-elite guard, and blew up structure.&nbsp Ran out beyond hunter, trap broke, hunter feins death.&nbsp Repeat x8 at one structure.

Wait a few minutes between attempts to ensure that the explosion point has respawned before attempting again.

We did it this way at the tower located near 43,29.

so easy with level 60 rogue and master of deception..
distract the guard, sneak inside - guard won't see you if he's distracted.
guard inside is level 54 on my current try, could just sneak past him, stand right to the wall with the mark, detonate it - as i'm level 60 i'm not in aggro range of the guard.
No dying, no killing, just detonating and wating.
ps: respawn is 3 minutes.
pps: don't sell the cloak, it's nice in molten core :)

57 Hunter:

Look at your map--the towers are marked.

Send in your pet to aggro the elite,
Run past and set freeze trap on top of the non-elite,
Set bomb, your pet will be about dead by now,
Run to the left (as you're facing the marker) to get out (elite always came after me from the right, probably since that's the way I always came in...),
Get to the bottom of the steps and feign death.

Worked every time for the six towers that are set up with the elite up front.
