The Crimson Courier

Return to Eastern Plaguelands and track down the Crimson Courier. Kill the Courier and recover the Grand Crusader's Command.

Take the command to Nathanos Blightcaller for further instruction.
The Grand Crusader's Command

Description

Just as the body cannot survive without the head, the head cannot survive without the body. The defenses of the Scarlet Crusade's command inside Stratholme are almost impenetrable. We must, instead, cut the body out from under the head.

My Deathstalkers have been collecting data on the activity of the Crusade outside of Stratholme. Each day, a report is sent from their central command to Tyr's Hand. This report is the key, <race>! Find the Crimson Courier and recover that report. Return it to Nathanos.

If you are a mage, you can definitely solo this quest by sheeping the Courier and then aoe down the 4 elite bodyguards as shown by Faxmonkey.

You can also solo this quest as a priest by using Mind Control on each of her bodyguards separately, let them die while under MC and then run away. Once all the bodyguards are dead, pull her toward the Argent Dawn's camp North of Blackwood Lake (not Light Hope's Chapel) and have the NPCs there help you kill her. The funny thing is that if you are still holding aggro, she will chase after you but she will be daze since 6 lvl 59/60 are wacking at her. Once she is daze, it's pretty much over and you can kite her however you like.

A word of caution: Don't try to kite her and her 4 bodyguards to the camp because the 5 elites are just too much 6 non-elites can handle. I tried this before, and the bodyguards slaughtered all the NPCs.

Waited for her right outside of Plaguewood,&nbsp we set up the druid on the south side of road and the priest on the north side, both a Max Healing Range. Damage Shield on the warrior from the druid and Powered Word: Shield from priest.

The warrior charged the front guard, Thunder Clap, War Stomp, switch to Def. Stance, took a Greater Stoneshield Potion, Challenging Shout, Demoralizing Shout then Intimidating Shout.&nbsp Repeated Demoralizing shout a few times during the&nbsp whole fight and Intimidating Shout once more.

The forth and last slot was the Mage, and was in charge of the DPS and runners.

Healers were never charged or gained agro.

We did one guard at a time, then did the Courier last.

On prier attempts, the healers where within damage spell range (shorter than healing) and were getting charged.

Just a few notes...

The quest notes that the courier travels TO Tyr's hand, so the best way to run into the courier is to start at Tyr's hand and follow the roads to Stratholme. I have confirmed that if the courier is killed, it will nearly immediately respawn at Stratholme.

Don't assume that just because you get a L70 friend to come that you won't get splattered. The bodyguards all do a charge/knockback if you are out of melee range, and they will chain charge you sometimes as well. (Guard #1 knocks you away, which causes #2 to charge, which causes #3 to charge etc) These mobs also do the standard paladin stun for 6 seconds, which they can chain as well. Bottom line, they are a pain if you don't have friends with you.

You *CAN* get the bodyguards to despawn *IF* you can get the courier far enough away from them. I was able to do this by attacking the courier when it passed through Corin's Crossing, and the guards were killing other mobs. I tossed some dots on the courier and then hit a swiftness pot to keep me outside of the charge range. I almost made (kiting the courier) it to the PvP tower nearest Light Hope, and when I finally stopped there were no bodyguards at all.

Make sure you don't let the courier reset. If it does, any bodyguards that were killed will repop. So you can't just kill a bodyguard and run off, then kill another etc. It won't work. Once the courier gets back on her horse, all escorts will respawn.

Unless you have a full group, I would suggest waiting for the courier to reach Corin's Crossing, since they will attack mobs there. Wait behind them until they aggro a few mobs at once, then engage. This way you won't have to deal with all of them at once. It won't buy you much time, but trying to take on 5 is a pain.

Yeah hunter, but dont forget the guards, it's isnt so easy...pulling the whole group and kitting the courier dont work, because at point the guards catch you
So you have to disptach the courier from the whole group, i've tried some things, and the only one working is to waiting the group reaching the undead town
When they get aggro of a ghoul, pull the courier and begin to run with him during 20sec, when you are sure guards have not aggroed to, u can begin the kite
the rest is a peace of cake

im wondering if it is possible to do same with Demetria :s ?
i hope cause when i create a group to help Duskwing+Borelgore, i say we kill Demetria too ? and they never do so...@#$%...this kind of ppl thinking only about themself suxx, so let's solo

1. Track humanoids
2. Dismiss pet (in case it goes badly, you need to be able to feign and not get found out by the courier or her guards while they kill your pet.)
3. Turn on Aspect of Cheetah
4. Get behind the patrol at the limit of bow range and put Hunter's Mark on the Courier.
5. Time an aimed shot so that it starts just as the courier is leaving bow range, you want the longest possible shot to start this.
6. As soon as the arrow leaves your bow, run up the road away from the courier and her patrol.&nbsp Don't wait to be sure that it lands and don't run off of the road or you'll get adds.
7. Occasionally turn and hit her with instant shots to keep her mad until her guards leave.&nbsp She should be leading the pack of chasers, and it should not be a problem to keep out of intercept range of the guards.
8. Summon pet and attack.

She's got a fair amount of hp, but doesn't hit particularly hard.&nbsp This shouldn't be hard to modify for anyone with any sort of speed enhancement and a ranged attack.

Rogues: You can distract and then sap to get the courier alone.
The distract: make sure you only get SOME of the courier/bodyguard party. If you get all of them, then the party "center" will not move on, and you will not have isolated the courier.
The sap: hopefully you have opened up the group so the courier is exposed on one side. Sap the courier after a few seconds. Do NOT do a cold sap (without using distract first). When I did this, the entire group stopped and waited for the sap to wear off. Continue sapping until the bodyguards are far away. I waited several minutes.

Then I started to try memoryjar's strategy to get him to the Blackwood Lake argent camp with gouge/kidney kiting. However, I realized by the time I was halfway there (I had started at the bridge due east of the lake) the guy was getting low on health and I could just blind/bandage and finish the job myself (this is at level 65, no poisons or pots necessary).

There was no sign of the bodyguards, and I had definitely been fighting for at least a minute or two. Maybe they all died at Corin's Crossing when the courier wasn't there to help them :D. However, don't take that as a guarantee that they despawn if you sap for long enough; the first time I tried this it was a little earlier on the patrol route (about north of Blackwood lake), I didn't feel like I was dishing out damage fast enough and I missed a kick, so I vanished, and right when I did that I saw the bodyguards running back. So try and do it fast, or just sap for a really long time. Good luck.

Did this with 60 Hunter, 60 Rogue and 59 Druid... Starting at the Plaguewood gate, the Rogue would use Distract to pull off one bodyguard, then sap him. After about 15 seconds, the Druid would train the rest of the group away while the Rogue and Hunter killed the bodyguard. repeat this three times before Corin's Crossing. South of the crossing, the Druid just kept the Courier rooted while Hunter and Rogue killed the last bodyguard, then all three of us finished off the Courier. Took a while, but it was safe and effective.

57 hunter.

used the above strat. waiting for the npcs to aggro an undead mob and then kite away courier. took a few tries... seems that the guards run faster than the courier does, and caught up to us. this last successful time, they seemed to have stopped following at some point. i know this because once i got to wpl, i turned her around to go back into epl. i did this because there are too many mobs that path near the road in wpl.

kept serpent sting on her until around 70%, then drained mana completely, then alternated serpent/viper to keep her at <500 mana. anymore than that and she will begin casting heal. it seems to be a 3 second cast so there is enough time to scatter shot her if you're on the ball. best just to keep her drained in the first place, however. throughout the whole process (about 8 minutes i'd say) i was able to get off several dozen autoshots to help things along.

once she died, i received a "you don't have permission to loot that corpse" error. i wasn't in a group or anything... obviously an issue arose, probably to do with the kiting. i submitted a ticket and am hoping i'll be able to get the quest item.

anyway, happy hunting.

I soloed this one with my Mage (has some T1/T2 armor so dont try this in green -)

Sheep courier, bomb the adds (this is tricky you should time your cone of cold really good while they are in frost nova. time the coc at the very point just before the nova breaks so all adds stay together) now just walk back all the time spamming coc and ae. re sheep the courier if u aren't fast enough. when the adds are down just use evocation and some runecloth bandage and kite the courier to hell =)

it worked on second try... first try there was some #$%^ty alliance rogue who ganked me

There are plenty of posts about group strengths and tactics...

But where does the courier patrol. Does it just follow the road from tyrs hand to Strat?

Thats what i'm guessing but in all my travels so far I have not seen any mobs matching this.

Just make sure all your dps goes to the courier, and ignore the guards.. Atleast that worked for us, totally ignored the guards and went all out on the courier.. we killed her, ren for our lives and came back to loot her. Was pretty amazed how easy it went we were with a 5 man group, 60 shaman 56 shaman 55 rogue 58 priest and a 57 warrior.

Of all the elites in EPL, this was one of the hardest ones to kite for me. What I did was kite the Courier by renewing Serpent Sting every time it ran out, and also letting off a few auto-shots once and a while. Shortly after I pulled the Courier, I sent my pet to attack her, this caused the 4 guards to start attacking my pet, slowing them down and getting them even further behind the Courier (which is good). I continued kiting the Courier with Serpent Sting until she was at about 60% health, then I used Viper Sting until her mana was all gone. From then on, I alternated between Serpent Sting and Viper Sting. Kited her almost all the way through WPL and finally brought her down.

This quest is very easy to solo (at least as a lock)

Summoned an infernal and sent him after the guards...&nbsp Then clicked a mob far away and told him to attack that... The guards followed him while I pulled the courier, infernal died, kited the courier with instant dots and the guards lost interest and ran back, then fear kited the courier, easy kill.&nbsp She tries to heal herself so just cast curse of tongues on her and when you see the heal, fear her.

Simple

We still haven't finished this quest in our guild. We attempted to last night, but... heh. She usually travels with her 4-person entourage between Stratholme, that undead Crossroad town (Corrin's Crossroads? can't remember off-hand) and Tyr's Hand. We had two 60 locks and a 60 druid, along with myself. I rush her and I hit her two or three times then she goes into Evade mode, while her entourage just tears everyone a new one. If anyone's done this quest, tips would be appreciated. I know that we'd probably need a mage and/or rogue for sheep/sap, but damn man.

Just did this with a warrior, a rogue and myself(shaman) all 60s. Sapped one body guard and focus fired on the courier. I kept heals on the warrior. I got all the aggro after a few heals, i died, ahnked, drank and healed again. The courier dropped, we looted and ran. Not too hard if you have a group with experienced players.

In my guild we've found that it's easiest if you put all the people that need to complete the quest in one group, and have someone else (preferably with an epic mount or some riding speed buffs) just run through the center of the group of mobs. Then someone from your group just tags the courier. It should be easy enough to kill her while your friend is training her four bodyguards around. This is also how we completed the next quest in the series with the oracle.

If you have a hunter, rogue, and mage then you have easy crowd countrol.

1) Sheep pull the courier first.
2) Ice trap one guard.
3) Sap the otehr guard.
4) Kill 2 guards in the meantime and take out rest one by one.

METHOD 2:
Immobolize the main guy and just kill one bodyguard at a time. The guards dont respawn if you rez yourself quick enough to go after him again.
