Description

Tauren take pride as the protector of these lands. Undoubtedly you can guess why I am alarmed with the number of harpies that dwell here in Stonetalon.

The Bloodfuries are the source of the increasing number of harpies in Kalimdor; they encroach upon all likes of life preventing the innocent from leaving their boundaries.

I need you to cull the harpies, <name>!

30,60 Harpies in view (beware Bloodfury Ripper elite)
33,66 Ambushers in view
31,71 Roguefeathers in view

Was unable to locate a cluster of Slayers. By the time the first Slayer found me, I had all&nbsp RogueFeathers and Ambushers, and 6 Harpies.

Note that in addition to all the harpies you are after, there are just as many harpie types that you are not interested in, mostly Windcallers and Stormwitches, and two elites "Sister Riven" (28) and "Bloodfury Ripper" (26).&nbsp Non-harpies include basilisks, fire elementals, stone elementals, and chimeras.
There are hills scattered throughout the Charred Vale where you can look around without being bothered, and mining is great (mithril, tin, silver, iron).

Recommend clustering "Harpies Threaten" with "New Life" and "Elemental War".

In Stonetalon is a place called the Charred Vale (coords: 35, 58).

You can find the harpies in there ^_^

You can also get there from a shortcut path at Sun Rock Retreat (coords: 44, 64).

I have run this mission on both alliance and horde several times and the biggest problem seems to be the flight patterns and mob density. Even people just trying to get through to Desolace or Stonetalon are going to run afoul of plenty of the mobs that are needed for this quest and there are two types in the respawn that are irrelevent to any quest on either side [Windcallers and Storm Witches]. So when any of what we are needing die, there is a chance that they will be respawned as a 'useless' mob [in relation to this quest]. That is why it is often very difficult to find the particular Harpy you need. You may just want to kill Windcallers [Storm Witches are farther East than we need to go for this mission] for a bit and hope the other types spawn [Harpy, Roguefeather and Slayers are red, Ambushers are colored as Windcallers].

You can stay along the edges predominately between the two Stonetalon entrances, though. The Roguefeathers and slayers are near the path to Sun Rock [SE charred Vale] while the Harpy and Ambushers are in the NE near the Stonetalon path from the Charred Vale. Ambushers will also extend to the point at 12 o'clock if you are looking at the map of the vale [due North]. There is no need to go farther west and if you see the Ripper [a blue harpy [elite]]. Then you have reached the edge of what you need for this mission.

And if you think this is a pain, wait till you have to hit Naga for 2 hours on a small island in Desolace waiting for them to drop ONE item.

This was not so bad after all. The directions are in the quest description. Head to Charred Vale and when you get to the two Orc guards at the botton of the hill you start your killing. All the mobs you need for this quest is in the immediate area of the guards. Just watch out for the serveral wandering elementals and Bloodfury Witches. I solo'd this at level 25 with a 25 pet.

My results:
You gain 1950 experience.
Your reputation with Thunder Bluff has increased.

Roguefeathers and slayers are together in the same camps in the south western half of charred vale. The harpies and ambushers are in the north western portion of charred vale. The ambushers seem to be 1 or 2 to a camp shared with 2 or 3 windcallers.

Charred Vale Entrance is at 43,42 west of Mirkfallon Lake

I only found 3 Slayers in the whole area.

34,69 - There are two that fly around in circles, one of them in a smaller circle so that one's easier to find, the other in a larger circle, so it may behoove you to hang out a sec and see if it shows up if you don't see it initially.

28,71 - There is one that circles the group of harpies near here.

Here's what i recommend:
1]Go to the path that takes you into Desolace.
2]Go west along the hillside until you reach 28,71.&nbsp look north for the Slayer there.
3]Go back to that path to Desolace.
4]Go north along the "path" between the trees to just west of 34,69.&nbsp Look east for the two harpies there.
5]Repeat.

by the time you kill he slayer in one location the others will have respawned.

They spawn randomly at the roguefeather ones, so making sure all the roguefeathers are dead will increase the chance of a slayer to spawn. Maybe killing the stormfury witches close by will also increase the chance of a spawn. If u are unlucky there wont be a single slayer at the roguefeathers when u first arrive there...but as u kill more and more roguefeathers there will eventually be a slayer spawn.

Pretty easy quest to do. There are just a lot of them around there as well as other NPC's, so as long as you don't aggro too many mobs you shouldn't have a problem with this.

Make sure you do this quest ( https://classicdb.ch/quest=6393 ) at the same time as they are both in the same area.

After doing this quest a few times, I've come to the realisation that you cannot place coords for specific harpies, they just appear when they do, for example, when I first came into the charred vale on my latest go on this quest, the only harpies I could find were roguefeathers, so much so that I went all the way to the other end of the vale and started killing only to find slayers and ambushers.&nbsp Then, after having my fill of them, I journeyed back to the roguefeather haven only to find it populated by storm witches and&nbsp hapries, after filling up on these, all that was left was to kill2 more roguefeathers.&nbsp This proved to be more tricky than thought.&nbsp Despite the area being polluted with numerous roguefeather at first, I had to kill mobs and circle the entire charred vale killing every harpy twice before they respawned en masse.&nbsp This quest is best done in a group so killing is quick so that the respawns occur faster.

I solo'd this as a lvl 24 hunter + lvl 24 rake.&nbsp Was stupidly hard, and I died a whole bunch of times.&nbsp With so many mobs wandering around the area, it's real easy to get ganked.

Suggest you pick up the quest to plant Gaia seeds at the same time, as these are planted in the same area.

unless you want to die countless times you're going to have to do a bit of farming. the slayers and roguefeathers are grouped EXTREMELY tightly together, and theres always a storm witch or 2 willing to make your life hell. find a nice good clear area (or clear it out yourself beforehand) and do your best to pull enemies to that area becaue if you stand and fight you will be surrounded by 5 enemies screaming "WTF" at your computer. lvl 27 paladin took me 20 minutes.

Should make it a bit easier when you are trying to finish the quest.
On my warlock I also used pet attack then pet follow to see which direction they were in.

wow. maybe i got lucky but i solo'd easily as a 25 rouge. hardest part was finding them. I had 2 rougefeathers left when i died for the first time. i could easily take 2 at a time but had to vanish twice due to a third or fourth add. dont take it so hard, just treat it like a grinding session. kill everything and as a rouge pickpocket all the harpies. I easily made 75+ silver just from pickpocketing, not to mention the boxes i got to open. For the rouges this should be fairly easy. Distract, pickpocket, (sap 1 if 2 or more), then attack. just study their patterns and you can see where they are likely to go, then engage when u can get a fair 2or3v1. :-)

The easiest way I've found to complete this quest is to hunt down all of the red harpies first, since this guarantees you are killing the right one's (they constitute three of the four you need). Usually, I can finish killing enough of the three red harpies by simply making a single circuit around the valley. Afterwards I go looking for the Ambusher's (usually in the northern end of the valley).

Hit this quest at peak time and you will be lucky to find anything living as it is a mass extermination. This can help in some ways but makes it hard to find the actual mob you need to kill as everyone else is on the same quest. The mobs respawn differently so check the places you have been to find the elusive ones.
The Bloodfuries at the end of the path from Sunrock are lvl 27 but you can pull them towards the guards if your lvl is low :-)

Pretty straight forward this one. Got it when I was approx lvl 21 but didn't go back to do it until I was level 25. Just wander around the Charred Vale and you'll soon pick off everything you need.

When complete you get the quest to go kill the leader (a lvl 28 elite). I'm going to attempt it later with a buddy. On my own at 25 will be pushing it somewhat.

I did this as a level 24 mage.

They can all be found in the charred vale (32, 68)

The Harpies and Ambusher's are around level 23-24 (lots around 30, 60)

The Rougefeather and Slayers (28, 68 and 36, 68) vary between level 24 through to 27 be cautious as they all hang around in packs, and you may end up pulling 5 at once...

Can be grouped with the two quests mentioned above.

Despite the claims of being easy, this quest is harder than most of the ones you have done to this point. What makes it a step up in difficulty are the wondering mobs of several types that are not part of the quest. If you get out in the middle you are bound to pick up an add. I had most success by staying along the edge and circling the valley looking for targets of opportunity. If you are looking for a quick quest, go somewhere else. This one will take a while, but if you like hunting, this one is fun. I saw several dead bodies of quester around. Take a hint. xXAmorphisXx below said watch out for those Whitches. That is good advice.

Look for little back valleys and clear any wondering mobs. Then when you find a target, kite them into your cleared area.

You won’t find all of one type grouped together. There will be 1 or 2 of what you want mixed in with types of Harpies. You will have to watch for an opportunity to pull one out of the group and pray you don’t get a whitch.
