The Thandol Span

Rhag Garmason wants you to locate Ol' Rustlocke.

Description

A tremendous explosion roared through the hills. 'Twas horrible, I tell you!

Good soldiers died defending the Thandol Span. Longbraid says we'll take revenge on the Dark Irons before all is said and done.

We're in a world of hurt though and I don't see any reinforcements in sight. Longbraid sent Ol' Rustlocke to scout the eastern bridge to see if we could secure it.

That was days ago. We haven't the manpower to search for him with Dun Modr under siege.

Perhaps you can find him...

This quest seems to be a bit deceptive. It mentions the "eastern bridge", but doesn't tell you that it is referring to the bridge directly north of you.

About half-way over the bridge, there are two doors on either side leading down to a lower level. He's on the 3rd level down on the east side. He's a corpse, so look on the ground.

Cross the bridge heading north into Arathi (51,8) and turn right. Head down the winding stairs and the corpse is on the ground.

As soon as you click it, Dwarves will spawn and chase you out.

Basically, I would say that this quest is labeled as [Elite] since the mobs that you encounter are elite. I firmly believe that this quest is doable without dying by any class at the level the quest is acquired. Solo. Here's how:
Go north from Dun Modr and across the bridge until you reach the archway with the doorways. Use the eastern one. Run down the steps into the main room. There is another set of steps go down these. With any luck, you won't aggro until you get to this lower level. Run to Ruslocke's corpse, I think it's on the west side of the room. Investigate and quest accept ASAP. Chances are, mobs will be pounding on you.
This room has two exits on the level you're on, one right next to the corpse. Run out it. You are on a balcony. Make like 007 in Goldeneye and dive. You'll hit the water, safe and sound. NE of the bridge is a climable bank. You can then sprint past mobs and get back to Dun Modr. Incidentally, since you'll be coming right back up here to blow up the cache of explosives, I highly recommend approaching it from this side as the mobs can be pulled in smaller groups from this path.
I did this with a level 28 Hunter. Perhaps leather armor and a pet are essential parts of this strategy. Let me know.

51,8 in Wetlands
45,93 in Athari

exactly on their borders.&nbsp Smack in the middle of the bridge connecting the 2 regions.&nbsp Then down the steps.

I spent so much time figuring this out b/c everyone seems to give coordinates that are WAY off.

Took a few trips trying to find this guy gave up several times due to lack of patience at level 36 decided to go back and finish while the quest was still green.&nbsp Went up over the bridge discovered entrances on the bridge (about in the middle) took the right side went down the staircase which brought me into a room full of crates.&nbsp Careful cuz I think there was a level 25ish elite guy in there and then at the bottom of the stairs too.&nbsp Corpse is down at the 51,8 coordinate. Wish the previous comment for this quest had posted earlier!

The enrtrance is at 45,96 and the dwarves do not spawn. The place is already inhabited with Dark Iron Dwarfs lvl 28+ Elite.

You can enter on both sides of the stairs. First u get dwarves, when u come to the corpse u get more of them from the other side. Not that tough, you don't need a group as suggested

Thanks to the comments above, this string of quests is really easy. I just solo'd them as a level 28 lock with my voidwalker.

You don't even need co-ordinates (I haven't got a clue how they work anyway).

I entered the left tower in the middle of the bridge. Took out the first lev28 elite dwarf, then if you walk towards the balcony overlooking the stairs down to the next level, you can see the body from there.

I went downstairs and let my voidie agro the dwarf down there, whilst I got the next quest from the body, and ran like hell when another dwarf turned up, pulling my voidie with me.

We both survived no probs.

For the final part, over the bridge you can see a wood bridge to your right with the explosives in plain sight at the other side. Instead of attaking head-on, jump off bridge and swim a small way east, and you get to low ground so you can approach the explosives from behind. I took out 2 dwarves (non-elite) then let my voidie agro the others (3 of them), whilst I destroyed the explosives and did a runner, pulling the voidie with me. Again, we both survived.

Depending on how many dark iron dwarves are there when you go looking, it could be tough. Somehow I managed to get lucky and go there when there was just one per level. But as I spent time there looking for the body, by the time I was leaving, 2 had spawned on same level.

I was a 32 druid and had to heal a bit to get even one of these guys down.

This bridge is the one going from Dun Modr to the north. You don't have to zone into the next place yet.

I did this quest as a lvl 34 NE Hunter with a lvl 33 pet. I just went to the coords, went in, killed one lvl 31 elite and went down stairs. There was a lvl 29 and something else behind the dude. I just jumped down, put them both on my pet while I did quest and ran back out. When I got far enough, I summoned my pet again. 8/2/07

The entire quest serie is soloable. Just completed it as a 32 rogue. The trick is probably to know your character. Watch your cooldowns etc, wait for them to actually cool down before entering fights with 2 dwarves. Don't forget your sap etc. Stealth is the key, run when needed. My spec is assasin upto coldblood and 2/2 Imp SS.
