Nessa Shadowsong

Speak with Nessa Shadowsong.

Description

A friend of mine, Nessa Shadowsong, is a fishing merchant in Rut'theran Village. She needs a parcel taken to Darkshore, and is looking for someone to help her.

If you're interested, then to reach Nessa you must take the portal in Darnassus to Rut'theran Village. You will find the portal west of the Temple Gardens.

This is one of four starter area Flight Point Quests. You cannot complete this as any other race save Night Elf.

The NPC that starts this quest is called Mydrannul, and he's a General Goods Vendor who you'll find as you run into Darnussus, on the northern edge of the Tradesmen's Terrace next to the main road into the city.

This quest is not available to me - a gnome - and, no, I haven't done "Honor Students" (the gnome/dwarf equivalent).
Location for Mydrannal is 71,45. He's on the left hand side as you enter Darnassus from Teldrassil before Warrior's Terrace.
Nessa Shadowsong is through the pink shining portal just past the bank, location 56,92.

Mydrannul, the General Goods vendor near the Ancient of War at the entrance of Darnassus apparently starts this.&nbsp However, it appears to be a night-elf-only quest series.&nbsp Other races get their own hippogryph-introduction quests.

Yes, I think this short series is one of a particular type of quest that involves using gryphons/hippogryphs for the first time. For humans, it would be Westfall and the "A Swift Message" series, and for dwarves and gnomes, it would be Loch Modan and the "Honor Students" series. I strongly believe that once you have completed one of these series, you cannot do the other two. My only question now is whether or not any of the three series would still be available if a particular character has already used a gryphon/hippogriff before doing one of them.

I have never been able to get this quest with any character - except a night elf. Even though I've never read that this is a race specific quest, it seems that it is.

Thanks for the lead, Shaylia. Although Myrdrannul had the little word balloon icon instead of the normal bag icon for a vendor, he still would not give me this quest. Perhaps it's because I'm human, and not a dark elf? I can't recall any quests that are race-specific, but I can't think of any other reason why he wouldn't give me the quest.

Well all your theories are a tad off. I believe that this IS a race specific quest and here is why. I am a human questing in Teldrassil. I have never taken a boat or a flight path, I was ported to Darnassus. I cannot get the quest to speak to Nessa or anything flight path related in Elfville. Apparently if I want the xp from flight path quests, I need to go back to my own land. Bummer huh?

Which NPC starts this quest, and is he/she in Darnassus?

Basically had to fly back and forth from Nessa to Laird a few times. It took all of five minutes and was good for almost 2k exp. At level 10, thats very nice.

Each race has a "first flight path" quest specific to that race's home city. Races that share a home city, such as Dwarves and Gnomes, or Trolls and Orcs share the same quest.

You cannot do the flight path quest of another race. Gnomes cannot do the NElf flight path quest. Tauren cannot do the Forsaken one.

It's not about whether you've done yours first or not. These quests are simply racially restricted.

So, do yours, get a bit of coin, earn some XP and learn about flight paths.

That sounded like a very good theory, Jakem, so I decided to try it out with another character. I did the "A Swift Message/Continue to Stormwind/Dungar Longdrink/Return to Lewis" series in Westfall, which involves the gryphon rider there. Then I went to Loch Modan and was able to do the gryphon rider quests there (which include Report to Ironforge/Powder to Ironband/Resupplying the Excavation). I was not able to do the Nessa quests in Darnassus/Darkshore still, however, and I have a theory why...I rode the hippogryph from Darkshore to get to Darnassus, and I don't think you can get the quest one you've done that. I suspect that it might be possible to get the quest if you take the boat from Darkshore to Darnassus and do the quests before doing anything with the hippogryphs. I'll try that with another character when I get the urge to make a new one.
