Took me about 30 kills to kill these things.

I don't understand what you all mean by "This quest is a waste of time" or "Don't do this quest". Grinding quests are GOOD. You get experience from the mobs, and this quest gives a ton of experience in a small talking chain once you return back to town.

on the plus side, although the drop rate is really low outside of boulderfist, was getting about 1 in 10, I picked up a lot of heavy leather for the war effort )

Can confirm that the drop rate seemed to improve to around 1 in 4 as I headed south past boulderfist towards the river (47,81).

Mobs themselves were ok for me at 35 Shadow Priest, although due to their fast heal rate it would take a good 2/3 of my mana pool (at Int 160).&nbsp Bring loads of drink )

Either I'm getting really luck, or the drop rate was bumped up to near 100% in patch 2.3 - I'm getting one on every kill as opposed to when I tried it earlier in the month.

XP after just a couple 100yd runs back and forth, this quest gave me 5990 XP, and if your a skinner, decent amount of thick leather to be had.

So we need to kill Highland Fleshstalkers eh? I went around the area of 46, 80. There are a ton over there. And for some reason the hearts dropped more quickly. (Just pure dumb luck imo). If you run out of raptors to kill over there make your way west to Witherbark Village, slaying all the raptors you find. If for some reason you still dont have enough hearts make your way back to 46, 80. If you still dont have enough, well lol ur SOL...

Btw...all those tricks to get the hearts to drop faster are all lies. Just kill the raptor >.>

Did it in like 30 minutes. It's not that bad, really. And the XP given is worth it.

The ones I killed were down south near Boulderfist Hall.Took me about 20 minutes to complete. Just make sure you have Call To Arms in the meantime, so that you can kill some Ogres to await the respawns. About 1 out of each 4 Raptors drops the item.

With call to arms you can get two quests in about 20 minutes, and guile pretty much has 6k xp (like that guy above said), PLUS the xp you get from killing so many mobs.

I attempted this quest for about an hour before getting all of the hearts.&nbsp Towards the end i noticed a pattern: First I would hit with curse of agony, then corruption, then immolate, then searing pain, then shadow bolt and then i use searing pain until the raptor died.&nbsp I'm not kidding you, this got me a heart every time.&nbsp Who knows if it was just random, but it worked for me!

This quest is very irritating. But very, very worth it. All in all you get about 6k experience just in quest completion alone. You also get Call of the Raptor which is a cool buff. I pulled a greenie Aurora Cloak, not to mention the xp you get from killing the 65 billion raptors and the 45 quadrillion spiders and buzzards that aggro from 15 continents away. The drop rate totally sucks, I had to actually check the log a few times to make sure I was killing the right monsters and also that the quest wasn't bugged or abandoned. Talk about annoying, I got to 11/12 hearts, and I joke you not I had to kill 11 more raptors just to get that last heart. Final numbers are in:

Total monsters it took to complete quest drops: 63 Raptors / 12 hearts

Total time: 45 minutes

Level : Solo 35 Warlock / VW used for aggro

VW's "Taunt" and "Suffering" were huge on this one. Without VW tanking it would have taken forever.

Great Quest for leveling though.

Do NOT listen to the people who say this quest isn't worth it. You will get around 5000 XP + what you get from killing the raptors. This quest very much worth doing.

Those mobs are level 36+

True, the drop rate isn't the best in the world, but this quest is easily soloable (35 pally) with no deaths or much resting. Keep at it, the drop rate actually isn't that bad around 47,79ish.

Personally I think this quest is totally worth it, as with *MOST* others. Im killing these things @ Lv35 and getting about 240XP average per kill. The drop is kind of rare BUT the XP is AWESOME. Ive gained 10k XP already and I have been at it for .... well I dont remember, but I dont think it was too long hehe.

You'd better pair this with the "Call to arms" quest.
The part where you kill the Boulderfist Brutes and Magus.

Raptors are just outside their cave at 55.74 Saves you some time and will bring you in about 10 -12k XP together (depends on how many mobs you kill in total ofc:>) .

And if you get sick of one mob type you can kill the other:)

this quest ain't hard at all, sure it will take some time but it drops,very good!
a good idea is to finish the quest "call to arms" http://classicdb.ch/?quest=678 the boulderfist outpost is really near the raptor location. exact coords are : 53,77
by the way there are 2 raptor locations,the first is really close to the road and has like 3 raptors
and the other spot is west to the boulderfist cave and near the river
coords are between 45,82-50,82
got much more raptors there

Completed this as a 33 hunter. They had a 100% like people are saying, call to arms is nice to have so you can just kill the ogres while your there =] Found it funny tho, that the guile quest was a light red, while the ogres were dark red and the ogres were of lower levels >.>

I dont know about any of you, but I spent about an hour to the north of all the raptors and only got 3 hearts in an hour. BUT when I travelled south before you hit the bridge, every raptor I killed dropped a heart. Finished this in 10 mins after getting the first 3. Rocked?

Ok, easy quest, but #$%^, the drop rate is insane. Took about an hour.

Highland FleshStalkers have a much better drop rate, at roughly 54,68.

pretty low drop rate...kill them near boulderfist hall. very rewarding quest tho

Just completed this quest series at level 37.

2850 xp for this quest, 290 for next step, and 2850 on final.

Far cry from the 8000 xp listed here.

Has a lotta great features that Blizz routinely steal and call their own, and won't hose WoW every patch ala Cosmos.

Honestly the quest item is a waste. But, if you are rested it is a different story. At level 36, I went from ~17k XP to ~47k XP. All rested, about 450XP (225 unrested) - 476XP (238 unrested) per kill. Overall, it is a grinding quest, and go ahead and do it if you are a leatherworker. This is a nice place to start your Thick Leather collection.

Because of all the discussion on this site and another site I looked at, I decided to keep track of my xp and # of kills. I did this qst solo as a 35 Druid and I lvled about 2/3 of the way through. I had to kill 29 raptors to get the 12 hearts which comes to a drop rate of about 24%. I was fighting lvl 36-37 mobs and was getting about 225-240 xp per kill which comes out to about 226 xp per kill. The total xp I recieved after turning the qst in was 12,540. So the question is whether or not getting 12,540xp for killing 29 mobs is worth it to, I think it is :). Happy Hunting :)

I tend to agree with Dryn. The reward is a little weak, but you can't deny the xp.

Very rewarding q indeed. Drop rate isn't that bad (1 heart every 4-5 kills).

The drop rate seems... well, its not like you explainded it.. or maybe im jsut lucky.. i did the quest in about 20 mins... almost a drop from every mob.. well, the quest was worth it anyways, good XP :]

Drop rate on these every time I do this quest is 1/20.

This is the most tedious quest in the game, hands down.

Did this with a 36 mage took 1 hour including 3X spider silk farming. Very low drop rate, they are around 47,70.

2850 XP

I did this quest fully rested so I got 200% xp, but the numbers pretty much bear out. I had to kill 44 Raptors to get the hearts, as a lvl 36, but the drop rate was strange. Got 4 hearts in the first 4 kills, then nothing till the last 8. Still averages to 1 out of 4. Total XP's was 26,911, including the 5990 for completing the series. Remember though, that was double xp's but it still equals out to rough 225-240 per kill. Not a bad total, but not sure if its worth the effort for the prize if you are only getting 100% xp. I spend most of the time hanging out north or stormeguarde, near the crossroads. The spawn rate was pretty good, and even better, nobody else was around, so it took about 30 minutes to finish.

51,68 near the OGRE cave. Drop rate isn't THAT bad, i have definitly had worse
