Blue Pearl (9)

Description

The Badlands is a harsh place, filled with vicious predators and bold scavengers. Scary, especially for a short little goblin. To survive, I have to be tricky!

I know the recipe for flash bombs. I use those to scare away wildlife. But I'm running low on one of the ingredients: crushed blue pearl powder. Get me some and I'll make it worth your efforts.

Heh, and I hope you have good boots on. The Blue Pearls I need are found from clams at the Vile Reef.

Yep, the Vile Reef in Stranglethorn!

You can pick Blue Pearls (in Stranglethorn Vale [STV]), even if you don't have the quest. If you quest in Stranglethorn Vale, I suggest you to get the 9 of these Blue Pearls before leaving to Badlands.

(NE 46 Warrior) this wasnt too hard for me considering the mobs are 36 elite. I had to get pretty close to agro them. I was able to get all the pearls and only had to kill 2 or 3 murlocs. When i had to kill one, I would have to kill, swim to surface, swim back down, loot.

clams for me were at:
24,28
23,27
23,26
23,25
23,23
27,24

Its at the Vile Reef and you find them in giant clams around 25:23. They are located in a large area and there are loads of Murlocsl. The murlocs are lvl35-36 elites and gives nice xp.

If you stick to the outer edges around the "cliff" you can avoid the Murloc's for the most part.

MAP

That's where I found mine (note: some are very close together therefore not allowing me to do a full nine loc's) and I only had to kill 2 Murloc's.

This quest can be done at the same time as the Encrusted Fins quest, recieved in Shimmering Flats. Every clam had a pearl in it, and every Murloc dropped a Fin as well. Make sure to have some waterbreathing buff, however.

If you swim what looks like a few "meters" below the surface (inches on your screen) around the outside edge of the dark area on the map that is Vile Reef, you should be able to see the clams clearly when looking down. They are located near rocks or at the base of large tree-like kelpweed areas on the sides of the reef valley.Murlocs guard about half of the clams, and can be tough (at least for my clothie mage), and they like to run when they get low on health so save your nuke weapon or spell for that.

Sorry, I don't use coordinates, but Vile Reef is located off-shore, directly west of the Horde Grom'Gol Base Camp on the western shore of Stranglethorn. Both quests can be done here.

Lvl 42 pally - bought a potion of underwater breathing at th AH - make sure you have "The Curse of Tides" and "Encrusted Tail Fins" quests as well.&nbsp Can do all three with one potion if you're fast (30 minutes).

Like they said above - just swim along the blue line on the map using the num lock key and look down and around for the clams, I had to off two murlocs while I was doing it.

Here's a tip for everyone, there is an item that drops in Gnomeregan calle Hydrocane, it drops off a boss that's fairly early on and fairly easy to defeat if you just grab a couple friends.&nbsp Hydrocane has only the requirement of being able to use staves, which is much easier then the engineering helm, which is a pain in the butt to build up to, and allows you to breathe underwater.&nbsp I'm a 47 hunter, got it by the fact that no one else wanted it, and use it for stuff like this and underwater mining since I mostly just use my gun if I run into something.

If you can re-set the video options for high-detail, you can see the clamshells a little easier. Everyone is right that you can avoid the elite murlocs and you should because they have three annoying traits.

1) Almost all of them are paired or tripled, but the second one is hidden, stealthed or behind some seaweed. Combine that with an odd patrol pattern and a long aggro range and it's hard to fight just one, so be prepared. 2) Although most don't hit very hard (lots of hit points, though), some of the Saltscale Foragers have some kind of random spell. One killed my 39 Voidwalker in 2 hits (twinked murlocs?) and another killed a 41 shielded priest at nearly full health in about 3 blows. Boy, was she surprised, and not very happy because these are 36-38 elites. Weird. 3) Of course everyone tries to pull them from their pals, which is a good tactic, particularly if you can keep hitting them but be careful, if you lose the pull and they stop or start to turn back, they will jump back to full health immediately. Very annoying if you've spent five minutes hammering away on one. Even more annoying when you work hard to kill one for a long battle and he drops 83 copper. I can hear the designers' sarcastic laughter now.

The clams don't respawn very quickly, so for best results (the most amount of clams), go in the early morning or late at night, server time. Otherwise it will take you 45 minutes to an hour to find nine. The rewards aren't much (unless you're an engineer) but the XP is great and the Vile Reef is scenic.

I started this quest and as soon as I started fighting the murlocs I would have to swim back to the surface. I drowned a lot. Here's what you do. Get close enough the murlocs to agro them, then simply swim back to the surface, with murloc trailing behind you. Once you are safely breathing the cool ocean air, you are then free to kill murloc. Once murloc is dead then swim down to get the clams. You may have to do this a few times(depending on the amount of murlocs). I hope this helps you.

Very quick & easy quest and good XP. I did the quest in under 10 mins (following the black reef line as someone suggested). The way I did it was to find a clam and resurface for air, when I went back down to get the clam, I would click it so it tagets and auto opens, while the character was diving to get it, I would be panning around to find others as they tended to all be close together.

Quick tip: If you have less that 3/4 breath when diving, forget about it as this is a struggle at certain depths to get back up on time, then energy drained form me at a rate of 415hp every 2 seconds while I was out of breath!

I dunno, maybe the area was farmed before I got there, but I found only 2 clams in about an hour. During this time I was able to get all 10 Encrusted Tail Fins. So, noticing that Blue Pearls were a Trade Goods item.... I stopped by AH and bought the other 7.

IMHO, getting them for yourself isn't worth the bother.

I did it on lvl40 without any underwater breathing thing within about 20 minutes.
Simply swim tightly under surface and when u will see calm get it and you will still have time to return up with almost half of breath (if you are attacked with murlock swim up first, and kill him then )). Clams are around ruins, many of them.

For me, didn't find anything at previously listed coordinates. Found them along a diagonal line from 24,28 to 27,26 with one up at 27,24. Wasn't very patient, so found about half without fight and other half had to kill one mob. Perhaps spawn locations vary. Clams are not all tha big but are a fairly light white and pretty noticeable - just not very large compared to the other bottom clutter.

First look for clams around the altar where you complete Curse of the Tides. Swim all around that area, especially along the dark line (for the trench) that you see on the mini map. On the larger map of STV, you should be looking around the area just above the "The" in "The Vile Reef". If there are elite murlocs around, that's where you need to be. It took me about 5-10 mins to get nine.

At level 44: 2150xp, +99 rep with Booty Bay, -750 rep with Bloodsail

I just completed this as a 38 rogue without a single fight and without a breathing spell. Using the coordinates listed I would find a clam and if it wasn't too close to a mob simply went down (stealthed) and got it. If there was a mob close I stealthed, went down, sapped the mob, opened the clam and vanished. quick and easy.

Found all mine in the Vile Reef soloed it at lvl 30. Most likely this is the lowest lvl you can be to abtain this quest. Definitly worth it if your an engineer trying to get the flash bomb schematic =) Took me about an hour all together and I recieved 3550 XP. Figured I get more but it was worth it just for the schematic. Every clam you open gives you a blue pearl its pretty nice.
