After completion of this quest you will be sent to do the "Amulet of Secrets" quest.

Had the same problem, couldnt talk to the guy.
Its common knowledge that you cannot interact with a NPC in combat.

I figured someone would have attacked him and left, somehow leaving him in the state of combat.

To my luck i had a lvl 60 horde on the server, so I traveled the long way to Uldaman and killed Hammertoe, then logged back to my alliance and waited for him to respawn, and there it was, quest complete

He is at 37,10 and seemed to be functional today.

Well, the first time I attempted to complete this tier of the quest, Hammertoe was not responding. There was no "?" above him, and he did not show up as a dot on the minimap. There was no gear anywhere around him and no response for any sort of command. I had not read Anonymous yet and did not realize that this was continually problematic. The quest was green for me, so after reading Anonymous, I abandoned the quest. The next day, I helped run a friend through Uldaman and since it was on the way and he was on this step also, I asked him to share it with me. He did and to our surprise, Hammertoe was operational. We also had one of my friends that had run through with me the previous night, so he tried as well. We all had the quest and spoke with him and accepted the next tier to the quest. He asks you to get an amulet off a named dwarf not far from where he is. Success once again, and back to Hammertoe. We all spoke with him, he dies and his spirit is supposed to go into the amulet for you to return to Ryedol. The spirit only went into my amulet, and as soon as everyone had left the instance, no one else even had the amulet anymore. The rewards for this quest are not that good, the xp (by the time you actually get the quest to work) is terrible at best, and the effort and frustration you go through to discover that it is bugged all to hell is more than a little irritating. In my opinion, you should just not bother with it at all.

Any idea where Hammertoe is hiding?

i also had the problem with not being able to speak with hammertoe i submitted a ticket and this is what blizzard said

"There are a few steps you can take to try to resolve this issue.&nbsp

-First, rename the Interface folder located inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder to Interfaceold.&nbsp

-Second, rename the WTF and WDB folders (also located inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder) to WTFold and WDBold.&nbsp

-Finally, make sure that you are using WOW.EXE to start the game.&nbsp Also, do not run any UI installers before hand (such as Cosmos or CT_mod), these can create issues with what you're dealing with and we want to eliminate them as the source."

hardly seems spefic to the problem but worth a try

I'm afraid that when I tried to do this quest on 18 Feb 2007, I also found him bugged.&nbsp He is indeed kneeling before the fire and I had no yellow dot on my map and no option to speak to him at all.&nbsp He might as well have just been a piece of the scenery for all the response I had!&nbsp Will try again tomorrow but it doesn't look good at the moment.

got to find him easily but he was unable to interact with me IN ANY FORM he just knelt by the fire and that was it

yes i went in today and found him and everything was working fine

Something major wrong with this one. Went to the guy inside Uldaman today, couldnt speak with him so I left again, hoping be able to speak to him later. Couple of hours later, the quest is gone in my quest log, and the "Find the gems"-quest is also gone (none of them completed either abandoned). Logged out and tr�ed again, Find the gems was there as it normaly is but no Sign of hope or what the name is...Tried to talk to the guy in Badlands + tried pressing the map again...nothing...any ideas?

please what is the TLOC for this quest or some direction as to where this is at?&nbsp I dont know if its broke to me or not cause no one gave ne useful information as to the location of said person.

I am a 48 Hunter, and when I went to talk to him, he wouldn't speak to me (no exclamation point, and the mouse wouldn't turn into the "Talk Icon" when I moused over him it just stayed as the Hand). I tried logging out and logging back in, but that didn't work. Then, a group of Horde players came by and killed him. He didn't respawn within about 5 minutes, so I left. I went back to Ryedol and got the "A Dwarf and His Tools" Quest (which I had not done), and did that quickly. I figured maybe I needed to do it 1st for Hammertoe to speak to me. I returned to Uldaman and Hammertoe had the Exclamation Point over his head and spoke to me and gave me the "Amulet of Secrets" Quest.
So, if he won't talk to you, either you need to do "A Dwarf and His Tools" first, or you need to have someone kill Hammertoe for ya. Not sure which one did the trick, but one of them worked. = )

030106 Stood next to the chap, right where the directions said he was and hes not talking to me either. Gonna try again after 1.10 then report as issue if still broken.

I did "A Dwarf and His Tools" Hammertoe will not talk to me... I've tried both solo and in a group so I think it is bugged. I am reporting it.

So yeah he was bugged for me.. after waiting for a long time with a gm ticket a bunch of hordies come running by. I kept pointing at them, pointing at him, making a rude gesture at him, and then AoEing around him. When a 60 walked by he destroyed hammertoe, then when he respawned he was working properly!

If he will not let you start the next phase of the quest (retrieving his necklace) the GM advice I received was to abandon the quest and pick it up again in the Badlands. >.< He was bugged for me today, Patch 2.0.6.

As of today, Hammertoe will not speak to me. I've done the prereq quest and A Dwarf and His Tools. I've been alone and in a group and have relogged a handful fo times. Reporting.

he is at 54,58 according to tloc, but u need to go into a little subcave, he's on the right. It looks like a little finger or nub sticking up on the map. Before the instance area. Hope this helps.

I'm standing right next to this guy atm and there is no way I could talk to him. I did "A Dwarf and His Tools" Quest, so dunno what the problem is =(

So is there an update on this quest? Maybe from the new patch

I will try and post back if i can find anything but right now i have no clue even where he is..
Is he by the other dwarfs where the balerog chest is?

I see him on the floor, can't talk to him or anything.

I paged a GM like some had mentioned and he politely replied that he would look at the NPC but suggested that I reinstall.&nbsp

So, with the decision between a 3 hour uninstall/reinstall process or dropping the quest, I dropped it.&nbsp

35 Rogue, only had to kill 3 guys to get to him, he's next to a campfire.
