Tears of the Hederine (5)

Description

The Hederine demons that occupy the foothills of Mount Hyjal secrete powerful fel poisons, which if left to mature, harden into a dense anti-magic crystal. These crystals have come to be known as Tears of the Hederine.

Not even the immense power of a Doomguard could break the walls of a prison constructed from this material.

Travel to Darkwhisper Gorge in Winterspring and recover the Tears.

1. Get on mount and run through on the path looking for the Initiates.
2. Dismount cast a dot of your choice, shadow protection then spam whatever you usually do.
3. Go to step 1.

I've noticed that the intiates drop them a lot faster and they are nice squishy mobs with less hp and they don't hit you for anything until they cast immolate.

(P.S. when you get to the two tunnels, the one on the west side has more initiates behind it.)

These guys are really easy to kill with a SM/Ruin build. This is how its done.

There are 2 Heredine Slayers (Lvl 59 or 60 elite, 17-18k hp) at the entrance to Darkwhisper Gorge(in Winterspring). They are easy to solo pull. There are also some bears inbetween the bridge and the spawn point u may want to clear before starting

Once the bears are cleared Get at max casting range from the slayer and pull with immoliate, Instantly turn and run toward the bridge, as your running hit Cos,Corruption,Siphon life then stop, hit fear and send your succubus in.

Make sure to hit lifetap a few times at this piont use it whenever siphon life is up and/or you can spare some health. It takes alot of mana to kill these guys.

From this point u just keep him feared and keep all your dots on him, if he gets to close pop a death coil on him, if u have nightfall drop a shadowbolt on him from time to time =) He'll be dead in about 3 min.

They hit pretty hard so have a soulstone and healthstone up and dont let him near you! Save deathcoil for when you really need it (When he breaks fear near you)

This was way easier for me than all these posts make it sound (took 20 mobs to get the 5 tears) if you have any clue how to play a lock you will have no problem with this Good Luck !

I did this in 56 Minutes, and I'm not saying this is the best way but this is how I did it.

I killed the two guys guarding the entrance after the bridge for my tears.

Sac your void with DS for regen.

Pull with Immolate (if you don't have Imp Corruption i.e. you're md/ruin, then pull with that) and as you're running away hit him with Curse of Shadow and Corruption (if you're md/ruin just corrupt after fear). Once you've pulled him away from the other guy just fear.

Keep your dots on him as he's feared. Re-fear when needed. Be sure to life-tap whenever your health is near 100% so you're always getting that DS regen. I never once ran low on mana doing this.

Inbetween fears if your dots aren't about to run out, you've got plenty of mana, and he's got some distance Shadow Bolt him.

Basically just keep your dots and fear on him. SB whenever you're able. If you get a fear resist or he's on you either attempt a re-fear or Deathcoil then Fear. Also I never ONCE had an add of any kind doing this. There was only a few times he went close to an add, but then I simply SBed him and he broke fear.

Took me about 2min for each kill. I would have actually gotten done faster if I didn't have to wait on respawns.

Good Luck

A good start damage comes from CoD + Banish. Just don't banish again when the first one ends, because then the CoD would probably trigger during the second banish, dealing no damage.

I did this quest with a hunter and we died a few times because we managed to aggro some patrolling mobs while fighting one ^^

Now I just realized we went too deep in the gorge... Duh.

Didn't count how many of them we killed but yeah, drop rate appears to be about 1/3.

Easy at 70. The mobs are 59 and 60 elites. Keep them feared and dotted and u have nothing to worry about. Not a great droprate, but its a lot less hasle than the dire maul quest.

Demonology and Affliction do not suck. I will admit that it usually takes longer to kill something when you are an affliction-based warlock, but it is very effective. I've tried all 3. Just have to know what you're doing. In reference to this quest, be smart and just grab a group of buddies to help you with it. Sure, you could do it solo. You could do a lot of quests solo, but think of how fast you can get this thing done with a group of 5.

Since 1.9 and the returned diminished returns this isn't as simple anymore. I used to be able to take them without a worry in the world, but these days it's a bit more exhausting. I used two approaches...

a) get a Druid and keep 'em rooted. Roots have no diminishing returns and the occassional resist can be countered through a fear, DC, or just draintanking.

b) CoeEx kite. The leash point is about 10 feet beyond the bridge away from the gorge. I did this: Corruption, CoDoom, Siphon Life, fear, and back up. When fear was down, CoD usually had about 15 seconds left over, renewed Corruption and SL, jump-turned when Nightfall procced (I am SM/Ruin). As soon as CoD hit, I gave him a CoEx/Corr/SL combo, again shooting when I procced NF, and renewing as needed. By the time CoEx was up, Fear had lost its diminish, so I re-feared, tapped and bandaged, and started to drain. When fear breaks they're at about 30 percent life, renew CoEx, add Corr and SL, run some more. Fear, Shadowburn, Soulfire, Drain Soul for Shard back, done.

Yes, Warlocks were hurt in the making of this strategy. I killed 40 Hederines for one drop, then gave up and came back with the above mentioned Druid. 4 hours later, we had them.

If you need to solo, a safe but slow strat is to use curse of doom and corruption plus fear. It'll never touch you. Immolate will greaty increase the rate of early fear breaks, so leave it off.

I did this duoing with a frost spec mage. Against Slayers, I used curse of doom and corruption plus the succubus sacrifice buff, since his frostbite proc meant swift death for any pet in melee range (without demonology, I would have had to use imp). The curse of doom would either finish or nearly finish the mob. Against the Initiates, I pre-cast my shadow absorb self buff and opened with curse of tounges, followed by corruption and shadowbolts.

Whenever we aggroed a local felhound, I simply banished and we fled to break aggro, not because they were too hard, but because they have a poorer loot table.

Do not attempt to enslave the Hederine. Blizzard gave them immunity due to the PvP advantage enslaved Hederine used to give Warlocks.

After you kill these guys and get the blood go back to the quest giver in the blasted lands and do the final stage of the quest.

https://classicdb.ch/quest=7583

You have to capture one of the doomguard commanders there. Its fairly easy, the hardest part is getting to the one thats standing out by himself without aggroing the others.&nbsp Go into the tainted scar and go south along the edge of the crater there is a lone Commander there.&nbsp Get at maximum range, banish him, send in the void while he's banished, wait til vanish breaks and use the crystal. He'll then aggro you, sacrifice the void and keep channeling. He should be captured before he kills you. Your void shield will aborb the first couple hits and your health will absorb the next couple. (He'll hit you for 1-3k damage so if you have decent gear you shouldnt die)

Only bad thing that can happen is the Commander might cast his warstomp when he runs over to you and break your channel.&nbsp If he does rez and try it again he usually doesnt warstomp.

another tactic, if you want the slow but guaranteed approach, send voidy in to tank and do some good burst damage until he's low on health... then tack on CoD + 30 sec banish, wait for banish to break and heal up your pet, then do a 20 second banish asap... this way you can keep it banished the whole time without wasting CoD on a banished mob. if it breaks a little early after the second one, just crank out some dps until the curse procs (which, obviously, will piss the mob off at you) and then tack it on again and repeat the banish process.&nbsp i'm really lacking in +dmg gear right now and still managed to drop them in 2 rounds of CoD/banish by doing as much damage as possible whenever they weren't banished.&nbsp if worst comes to worse on banish resists, you can always sac the voidwalker (never had to though).&nbsp on occasion i had to bandage once but i really burned very little health and mana in the fights.&nbsp with banish rather than fear it slows you down a bit but there's no worrying about adds and always time to bandage/heal your pet interrupted. i suggest fear when you've got a big, clear area and banish in the trickier spots.

I did this as a destruction lock.&nbsp Was under an hour to do it all.&nbsp Only death was when I got 2 adds.&nbsp Either the melees, succys or felhunters drop the item, so pick whichever gives you the most room to fear kite.

Immolate, Corruption, Coa, Fear, wait a bit, conflag, Immolate.... send in succy, repeat.

If you go after the succys, just make sure to stay close to them so you can refear quick as they have an immolate spell and a shadowbolt.

Depending on your gear and how much you bandage, you can even get 1 add and be ok.

I can solo these guys pretty easy. I'm not eppiced out (3/8 felheart and the rest is all +dmg blues).&nbsp I just farm the two at the entrance.&nbsp I pull at max range w/ soul fire, then I put curse of Affliction up.&nbsp Before it gets w/in melee range cast fear, and drop corruption on it.&nbsp Just make sure its always got those 2 DoTs up, and keep it feared, and theres almost no work involved.&nbsp If it starts running towards the other mobs use wrecklesness to bring it back.&nbsp Just a rinse and repeat process.&nbsp Sometime you might have to deathcoil, sac a VW, or pop a healthstone if it resists a few fears in a row, but I never died once.&nbsp Be prepared to use alot of soul shards though.

I just solo'd this without too much of a problem.&nbsp I'm a 60 lock (nightfall/conflag build) mostly dreadmist/deathmist crap.&nbsp

1. Just clear out all the bears and keep killing them as they respawn between killing Slayers (you'll need to restock your shards anyways).&nbsp
2. Keep your VW out for an emergency sacrifice, bring tons of bandages, and always have a HS ready to use.&nbsp
3. Pull one of the 2 first slayers with curse of doom and keeping walking back and fear at the last second.&nbsp DOT, reapply Fear, and reapply CoD. Repeat.&nbsp Keep as full health as possible by bandaging as soon as you cast fear.
4. After the slayer gets down to 3K or lower don't CoD unless you want to chance summoning a pissed off demon =p.

It took like 25 or more slayers to get the 5 drops.&nbsp Was well worth the effort tho since I looted Eye of Shadow inthe process.

By Anonymous on 04/23/2006 (Patch 1.10.1)
The slayers are surprisingly easy to kill, assuming you just keep them feared. They run slow enough that you have ample time to refear them as they run back at you. Just kite them by pulling with DoTs a short while into the snow, then fear and stand in one place to avoid bears coming at you. The bears won't aggro, assuming you don't have a pet running around whacking the demon. If you must use succubus, make sure to have it "follow" you whenever it gets close to a bear.

If you are affliction, you can kill these guys (assuming no unfortunate fear breaks at the wrong time) without getting hit, and with only about 20% total mana and hp loss through overall mana usage and life tap.

Good luck! :D

It took me exactly 15 kills to get the 5 quest items.

I can see people here suggesting CoA and CoD for damage, however from my experience, your worst enemy here is going to be resisted fears. I used CoS and got fairly few resists, and did my damage with corruption, immolate, and 1 or 2 shadow bolts per fear. It took me maybe 3-4 minutes per kill this way, and I only died once, when a slayer resisted a fear and foolishly I had started the fight with HS and DC on cooldown. Don't do it!

/laugh on you all who think this is hard.. I am a demonology lock and i managed to solo these guys at lvl 57 (i am 60 now). This is what all demonology locks should do:

1. Demonic Sacrifice VW.
2. Pull him with SB, cast CoS and Corruption while&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp running.
3. Fear him.
4. Spam SB and recast Corruption.
5. Reoeat fron step 3 until he is dead.
6. Loot!

This takes about 2 mins i would guess. (I'm talking about Hederine Slayers if anyone wonders)

IMPORTANT: Use life tap often, so you don't run around with full health and 50 % mana = you don't get health from Demonic Sacrifice.

Works wonders with an Imp. CoEX pull, apply Siphon Life and Corruption (and reapply CoEX) as you train the demon back to the icy bridge. Once there, turn around and Fear, CoD and reapply DoTs (+ Immolate) and Fear when needed.

They'll fall eventually :).

Only failed for me a couple of times due to Fear being resisted a couple of times in a row (those demons surely hit hard!) - and with either Death Coil being similarily resisted, low on mana (and health - ruling out Life Tapping until Demon Sacrifice:Voidwalker restores enough health for it to be "safe" to do) or on cooldown.

Sac the VW, pull one of the slayers out onto the road with CoS, and then just stand there fearing and dotting. Throw in shadowbolts when range allows. If you're unlucky enough to have a fear resisted at close range you can deathcoil or use a HS for safety, as two fears resisted in a row might mean a death. But really, you will not die, and you will have infinite mana. Even without the VW sac, a bandage / HS here or there means pretty much the same thing. This quest is actually very boring.

there are the 2 heredriene slayers at the entrance theese are the ones you focus on really easy to solo being a lock
i am sm/ruin

step one get max range of the HS

step two send a shadow bolt and when you send one cast immolate as it isin the air

step three start running as the shadow bolt will hit at end of immolate casting then you cod corrupt and life siphon and keep running to just before the bridge

step four jump turn in mid-air death coil land and fear recasting all dots

step five cast shadow bolt as often as you can exspecially when cod is about ot end so max dps

step six after the cod goes it should take you 2 or 3 fears i never gett resisted cast all dots and fear again

step seven use shadow bolt or want untill about 10 or 5% they will start running slow and just take them down with any spelsl fear if they get to close

it is extreemly easy to do compared to soloing incendius and the mana thingys in dm west

i use my void walker in case i do get resisted in like 1/10000000000000000 chance so i can sac or if i pull more aggro have vw tank the add while i kill slayer

i have never done this quest but i use my 60 lock to farm eye of shadows for gold
my gear is as follows
head-nemisis
