Suppression

Venture forth into the Tainted Scar and locate a Doomguard Commander.

Use the Glowing Crystal Prison on the Doomguard Commander. Be prepared for a ferocious onslaught of attacks, as the demon attempts to escape capture.

Should you succeed, return the Imprisoned Doomguard to Daio in the Tainted Scar.
Imprisoned Doomguard
Glowing Crystal Prison
Provided Item:
Glowing Crystal Prison

Description

The prison is ready. Now for the most difficult portion of this task.

You must find and capture a Doomguard Commander within the Tainted Scar using this crystal prison.

Be warned! A Doomguard is a cunning and lethal adversary and will seek to destroy you as you begin the ritual of imprisonment. It will flail wildly in its attempts to escape imprisonment.

It will focus on nothing but you, <name>. Because of this, I must recommend that you take companions capable of keeping you alive!

You should be able to solo the quest without too much trouble. The hardest part is being able to get to a good place to find a doomguard captain alone.

They are to the south of where you get the quest. It would be a good idea to get a Voidwalker out now. If you have an epic mount you can just ride though all of the mobs without too much trouble. Be careful though, those guys hurt and can hit for over 1000 damage, and if you get dazed you are pretty much done for. Try to stay as far as way from them so you dont get hit as you pass them. Find a good place where you can just aggro one captain alone. Send your voidwalked in and just start using the item, your Voidwalker will probably die by the end, but by the time he does you should be done using the item.

Also after you finish using the Prison you need to pick up the item that is right next to corpse or else it won't give you credit for the quest.

The hardest part about this quest is getting into the necessary position. It's difficult to explain but I will try. Before doing anything, make sure to take off your gear- you can die ALOT trying this and you don't want to bother with repair bills.

Basically, beginning at the entrance to the Tainted Scar (you shouldsee 3/4 elite arranged in front of you) you are going to move straight forward towards the west which will be taking you in the direction of some hills/mountains. Now you should see a narrow-ish path leading up these hills/mountains with a guard off to its left and another further off on the right- you won't need to worry about the right, just wait until the left has pathed as far as away as possible and then get up the path. Moving up the path you should see a few small hills on your left, move up onto these and start making your way South/Southwest along them. You will know if you are in the right area if there is a group of 2 Doomguards and a Dreadlord all standing together on your RIGHT side. Now, when you have the group on your right, you should be facing some steep slopes (Still being south/southwest). You can get over these but it will take some work- don't give up- just keep trying to run up the slopes as far as possible, turning slowly in either direction until you find the right path upward and over them. You should now have that group I mentioned (the doomguards/dreadlord) behind you. The rest is fairly simple. Dismount, put on WALK, and move in the same direction you have been, bearing to your left. You should make your way alongside a steep hill and shortly see a single, lonely doomguard. He has no friends to help him out. There you go.

I did this by having a healthstone/pot ready, as well as being DM specced and 1. using a VW sacrifice 2. using Fel Domination -while- I had my VW shield still up and summoning a second VW to sacrifice again during the fight. Basically I had a second shield on hand. Now the DG will just stand there or even wander around normally for the first 3-4 seconds of channeling, and then come at you head on. Don't bother trying to draw off Aggro w/ your VW because it won't work. The only way the DG can interrupt you is with a war stomp- and if he does that then I'd recommend just dying and retrying because it'll be very difficult to restart channeling and begin again whe he's already in your face. If you're not DM specced that's fine, you can still sac. one VW and then summon another- you'll just have less time to go on your first VW shield, but they only last for 4-5 hits anyway.

Also note: the crystal only channels for 15/20 seconds, but it will be 2-3 seconds AFTER it has finished channeling that the DG will turn into the crystal you need and can pick up. So if your crystal finishes channeling but the DG kills you in those last few seconds, don't worry and don't send in a GM ticket because nothing is wrong- it's just lame like that. Also remember to PICK UP THE CRYSTAL- it is fairly small and easily missed if you're too eager to race back to the quest giver.

I hope this helps anyone out who had as much trouble as I did. =]

Also to note- if you don't want to solo this quest and you don't want to find this singled-out DG then I would recommend a raid of 10 or more. Yall can say what you want about those demon elites, but a 5-man group won't likely cut it unless you are very geared out. They do blast waves for nearly 1k dmg, hit very hard and have a large amount of health. Basically the juiced up equivalent of Onyxia Warders if you've ever fought those. I tried getting a large group of 10 for them and it was slow-going. Anyway, good luck and have fun summoning the DG. It's not really practical but fun to summon randomly.

Completed the entire quest line solo at level 66. There's a Doomguard Commander near 34.0, 63.0 that stands surrounded by a wide circle of Felguard Elites, they stands far enough from each other that I aggroed none of them. Send in your most capable tank minion on the commander and wait a few seconds to build a bit of aggro. With a little luck, he will waste his warstomp on your minion, if he does, don't waste a second and start channeling the prison. He won't do enough damage to kill you and only his stomp can interrupt. If he casts his rain of fire, you're home free as it lasts long enough to guarantee he won't stomp you until you're done!

Keep in mind that none of the Felguard Elites around him can be enslaved - they are all immune, and it's a long corpse run to learn that lesson.

Duo'd it with a 60 mage @ the dark portal, its all down to the timing to ensure you dont get aggro'd by the whole of the area...

Let the mage fireball one of the other mobs (not the commander)- have the voidwalker at ready make him attack the commander as soon as he aggro's the mage, the rest of the mobs will continue to follow the mage for a while or until he dies, this should give you enuf time to use the item on the doomgaurd and get away unmarked, using the VW sacrifice ofcourse

This is so much easier to solo than people think.

1. get to the solo commander on top of ridge. (approx 37, 68)

2. Cast clowing crystal prisom at him then as he runs to you.. step 3

3. CoS then Banish.(resisted 2 times)

4. Walk back away from him. During banish he turns to a captured commander shard thing.

5. Click on the shard and there you go.&nbsp

My stats are about 4500/4500. I am 21, 21, 9. No VW used, Only VW sacrifice already on.

"make your way south of the entrance to TS. You will go down in a valley type area and then back up. You should pass by 2 doomguard commanders and a bunch of other demons. Don't worry about dying you should be naked and only losing a little time making your way back each time. Now once your past these 2 doomguard and start making your way up you should see a crater on your map and may start seeing dreadlords. Immedietly turn right. You should see a lonely DG commander who overlooks the valley you just ran thru. Make your way up the cliff facing to the left of him."

SOLO!
First, get the maximum distance away from the doomguard, then banish him. Set your voidwalker to auto-taunt him (voidwalkers can taunt through banish). Begin channeling now!
There should be 1 or 2 seconds of channeling left when the voidwalker either dies or loses aggro. When this happens, the doomguard will probably run up and hit you for 1k-3k health, but as long as he doesn't use War Stomp, the channel won't break and he'll disappear before you die.
Click the shard and you have your imprisoned Doomguard.

Soo.. this
1. Channeling
2. COS
3. Banish
4. pickup quest item thing
didnt work for me (he just didnt turn in the quest item)
So i tried it the "normal intended" way.
I
1. Banished him to gain some time
2. sended in voidwalker to attack him
3. went to max distance (its exactly the distance of the wand)
4. started the channeling as soon as banish broke
5. when he comes near let him hit u once or so and then Sacrifice Voidwalker
6. should be transformed to the quest item before u die

As an addition 3 times he warstomped me when he was near and so canceled the channeling. i just banished him again, bandaged myself up, summoned voidwalker and started again. (just rebanish when banish breaks).
I have around 4k HP, didnt use a Healthstone or a pot... so the quest can be done solo without any tricks. GL mates

Guess Blizzard doesnt care about warlocks.... the doomguard commanders who were near the dark portal have been erased, and now to finish this quest, you HAVE to go in to the tainted scar region of blasted lands.

That region is the toughest region in the map, except ofcourse, in a raid instance. But I would say the mobs are as tough as, if not more, as the ones at Zul'Gurrub and definitely tougher than UBRS.

Took a 10 man raid of lvl 60s to Tainted scar...most of us had full PVP sets, at the most we could take down 2 felguards (lvl 61-62 elites) at a time. But when a patroll of one felguard and 2 felhounds joined in the fray, while we were taking on 2 felguards, we wiped. Then we quit.

Then we took a 20 man raid to nethergarde, we did lack discipline initially, and atleast 5 guys were 53-57, so we wiped once. Then we halted, got 5 more people, all lvl 60s, and we proceed at a brisk and disciplined pace.

Important to note: for this quest, warlocks are your friends. The more you have in your group, the more you can banish and establish crowd control, if jumped by the roving patrolls.

The mobs here are immune to fear.

We took down the felguards one at a time, proceeded west, and in the map you see a semi circular area blocked off by mountains. Just south of that area is a plateau where there are 2 doom guard commanders (34.6, 70.4). We killed the felguards and felhounds, then a priest bubbled me, no one attacked the doomguard commander, and then with the doomguard commander targeted, I right clicked the "Glowing crystal prison. A green beam shot out (like while draining life), and I was channeling for a short while, a few seconds. Then the doom guard commander just shrunk and formed a stone. Opened the stone to get the "imprisoned doomguard" and finish the quest.

Then for fun, we took down the other doom guard commanders. Warriors tanked, as I used the glowing crystal prison on the doom guard to test things out. The glowing crystal prison can be used multiple times, even-though, you only need to do it once to get the "Imprisonned doomguard". The doomguard commander once again shrunk in to a stone within a short few seconds.

Now we decided to take on the dreadlord. (In the semicircle region surrounded by mountains - 32.7, 62.0) On reaching the dreadlord and his 2 doomguard commanders, I had 3 warriors tank the dreadlord, while 2 warriors and a druid tanked the first doom guard commander and me imprisioning him, while the rest of the group took on the 3rd doomguard commander.

We eliminated all 3 with consumate ease.

In fact the dreadlord was down to 50% by the 3 warriors when we finally turned our attention to him.

Drops: Nada! Zilch! Nothing!

It was frustrating for our guys to see the boss drop nothing at all.

Given the tainted scar region is so tough, during the whole raid, maybe one "eye of the shadow" dropped from a random felguard, and a couple of lvl 57 greens, and nothing else.

The guys were disappointed.

Important to note: The felguards and felhounds and doomguard commanders respawn fast.

So you have to stay close and move fast, or you will end up staying in the same place fighting the same mobs again and again.

Ok, after reading all these posts (at least most of the ones pertaining to doing the actual quest and ignoring the bragging and whining posts) I decided to take my level 63 BE Lock to go do this.

The two quests leading up to this one were not too bad to solo, just time consuming and annoying on occasion.

When I found a solo DC (as close to solo as you're going to get now) my first pull drew an unintended add so ran away and came back to try a second time.&nbsp I dropped curse of shadows on the DC and pulled him back to where I would be safe and sent the voidwalker after him.&nbsp Same as everyone else, I waited till Rain of Fire was cast and started the cast on him as he did it.

After Rain of Fire completed he ran after me, hit me once, and ran back after the voidwalker.&nbsp I did not sac the voidwalker and it didn't die until right as the spell completed.&nbsp For all the talk about how hard this quest is or the fact it's pointless to do, I find that 18+k in XP for such an easy quest chain was well worth my time.

Point is, anyone making a big deal out of soloing this quest is a newb and that's all there is to it.&nbsp This quest was always intended to be able to be done solo and only required the warlock to plan out and execute based upon their skills a more complex problem to tactically work through.

All of the warlock quests are like this.&nbsp I can't think of one off of the top of my head that really requires anyone to help.&nbsp This is a newb quest and if you can't / don't survive it and need help you should stop playing your warlock and move on.

Onto the absurdity of the spell itself.

In time I am sure that Blizzard will take a look at the Infernal and Doomguard and do something about/with them and other demons at some point for the Warlocks.&nbsp It's been a long time now and everyone pretty much knows and agrees that these last two demons are pretty much a waste and not worth the effort to use in most cases.&nbsp The doomguard should likely become a regular summon that costs just the reagent + soulshard if it must require the soul of something to be summoned.

Suggestions along these lines have been made to Blizzard before but they haven't said anything about working on the demon aspect of the warlocks beyond the felguard which imho was the biggest waste ever of a talent point when I spec'd for it at one point.&nbsp You get twice the damage with affliction and destruction trees and you're not depending on a demon to survive in a pinch which is what happens in PVP more often than not.&nbsp Demonology talent spec for the felguard is a complete waste period.

Bottom line is simply this.&nbsp Warlocks are amazing characters and they need some attention to details given and extended on certain things now that the BC expansion has changed so many things.&nbsp Demons we currently have need to be rethought and more usable in a realistic way.&nbsp Warlocks can do all of their current class quests solo with no issues at all.&nbsp Simply putting a bit of thought into it prior to doing the quest and you win every time.

You should do this quest.&nbsp You should try and solo all of it because it's not that hard of a quest chain and it hones your skills as a lock to take advantage of every skill you have to complete.&nbsp In other words it forces you to learn to play your class.

This is my first 60+ lock ever and I have enjoyed playing it very much.&nbsp I've never been in a guild with this character and PUGs have served me well.&nbsp I did this quest like others because it's part of the warlock quest chain and it gave decent XP for just doing it.

Hi all, after much frustration with a group of warr, hunter, priest and pally i was able to do this quest with just me and another lock

As stated above, one lock starts channelling (i had sacrifieced VW and also equipped a spellstone) while the other banishes the doomguard. channelling is not interrupted. Just be careful because it can resist banish as well

Much easier this way and easier to get help from a lock with the same quest

I did this with my warlock at lvl 61.

For the first two quests I had the help of a group although it appeared that the demons at winterspring were very easy to solo with just pulling one by one on the bridge and then fear and Dots. On the bridge there was no way to pull other mob during the fear.

For the Suppression I went alone and found the Commander as it was described in the previous comments. First sent the VW to get the initial aggro (I have 3 points on improved VW) and I started the channeling from the maximum distance. The Commander came towards me when the void was at around 60% of his health so I had to sacrifice him as soon as the commander was approaching (The channeling is not interrupted from sacrifice). The shield holded all the damage from rain of fire so I ended up finishing the quest without a single hit on me.

No demon needed, no healthstones, no nothing.

Find a lone Doomguard Commander. There are a couple of them in the south-east corner of the tainted scar. Just ride there and dodge all enemies as best you can until you are out of combat.

Start channeling, banish as soon as you can (while still channeling which CAN be done), wait, pick up imprisoned Doomguard and be amazed at the simplicity.

I followed the plan outlined by yusstay a few posts above this one. I didn't think it would work, but it did. Apparently you can channel the binding spell while also casting both CoS and Banish. Go figure. You don't need another Warlock you don't need a Hunter to freeze trap you don't need a Warrior or Priest. You don't even need a VW, but the sacrifice shield helps if banish doesn't stick on the first cast. Patch 1.11.2

I remember doing this at level 60 before the expansion came out, was very easy with the old Spellstone, i was very surprised when i got the commander on the first try.

All you gotta do is summon a Void walker, sacrifice him, then summon a new one, then start channeling at max range, when the shield runs out, sacrifice again, and when he did Rain of Fire i just used the spellstone to dispell it.

And i was in blue dungeon gear, i actually even used the off hand for a while.

By the way, it's quite easy to kill on of these mobs if you have a warlock, a healer of some kind and one other person. CoD, banish rank 2, banish rank 1, shadow bolts (CoD goes off) and repeat. If you pull one to where there are no possible adds, then use multiple fears instead of banish rank 1 and hammer w/ shadow bolts while feared. Use the banish time to bandage if needed to save healer's mana. A three person group, especially one with 2 locks should have no problem at all. A two person group (lock + healer) can do it but it's hard. And yes, I actually did kill one of the Doomguard Commanders me + a lvl *59* pally. So it's not just theory. 1. to get to the quest giver you can ride all the way to him by keeping to the outer edges.
2. the lone Commander near cords 37, 68 is the best bet. died getting there but upon returning rez where you can not draw aggro and you should be good from there on.

Just thought I would share my good fortune...the thing that pulled it off for me was, and this was accidental at the time: send in your VW and don't click your quest item until *just after* the Doomguard starts channeling rain of fire. You will agro him straight away, he will turn to face you, but he won't come after you until after Rain of Fire finishes channeling. This bought me a good 5 or seconds, enough to pull the capture off solo, second attempt.

You get this quest from an NPC in Tainted Scar. It is the last in a chain from that NPC. To reach the NPC, just go north from the entrance of Tainted Scar. Also, good luck... level 60+ raid mob demons in the way. They hit me for about 700ish. You can kill these efficiently with a minimum of ten people.

However, to get the quest I recommend soulstoning yourself and riding to the NPC. You will die, but wait for the mobs to clear, self-ressurect, and grab the quests quickly because you'll probably be aggroed again.

When you're ready to do this part of the quest, you need a good tank and one healer and that's about it. Go find a Doomguard Commander (they look like Doomguards)... you can usually find one south of the entrance to Tainted Scar. Sometimes there are some by the Dark Portal too.

Have the tank tank the mob and the healer keep the tank alive while you use the glowing crystal prison (which, stupidly enough, has the same icon as a soulshard... gj Blizzard.) It channels just like drain soul, for about fifteen seconds.

WHEN IT FINISHES CHANNELING the doomguard commander will disappear and you may be asking yourself, "Uh, what now?" There will be a crystal on the ground that you have to right-click to open. I missed this a few times and had no idea what I was doing wrong it's colored really similarly to the ground. (Again, gj Blizzard.) Once you have this item you can do another suicide run to turn in the quest.

By the way, while your tank is tanking the doomguard, other mobs may aggro and you may wipe, but the crystal will stay there long enough for you to recover your corpse and grab it. I don't recommend bringing a whole raid production with you because the respawn on the mobs is really fast anyway, and it's quicker to just die a lot than keep reclearing, heh.

Since the other posts are missing certain elements or are wrong about others, here is my guide to solo this quest:

PART I: GETTING THERE
- There is indeed one Doomguard that is standing alone, on one of the hills, just before the Dreadlords. To fight him you need to go to 38,70 just on the edge of the hill, out of the Dreadlord en Doomguard aggro range.
To get there without dying, first you need to ride straight to point 35,78 without stopping and as far from the elites as possible. It's almost impossible without aggroing a few, but when you reach this point you will lose the mobs that chase you.
- Once you are at the safe spot summon your Voidwalker and make sure you have a Soulstone/Healthstone ready. Fire resistance helps against the rain of fire, but is not a requirement - I finished the quest with all my gear in the reds.
- Now go to point 38,70 you'll need run between 2 Dreadlords so carefully time your movement, this should be easy.

PART II: CAPTURE THE DREADLORD
- Send in your Voidwalker, when he starts walking away from you, that way you will maximize the range between you and the Doomguard.
- As soon as the voidwalker has aggro, you should start channeling.
- Now 2 things can happen:
(a) The doomguard immediatly runs for you and starts a melee attack: sacrifice the Voidwalker as soon as he is standing in front of you. The shield should protect you against his stun attack. He will probably start rain of fire after, however the damage from this spell does not break the channeling, so you should be able to finish the channeling.
(b) He doomguard immediatly casts rain of fire: in this case do NOT sacrifice the voidwalker yet. Wait until he finishes casting rain of fire and comes for you, then the moment he stands in front of you, Sacrifice your Voidwalker.
- Use your healstone/healthpot when you are at 2/3 health, this does not interrupt the channeling.
- Free Action Potion pots can help also but I did it without one.

- If you are lucky you can do this without dying, but be sure to have additional shards available for additional VW summons and healthstones.
- Timing the sacrifice is the key to completing this quest (solo)!
- When the channeling finishes, he shrinks into a crystal, pick it up and return to the questgiver.

Pre-req:
(Quest #7581) this quest gives doom commander despite what the reward says about it being a glowing crystal prision. The spell it gives is Ritual of Doom.

My group:
2 priests (constant healing / POW: Shield)
a hunter (ice trap)
a paladin (fire resistance aura)
voidwalker (to sacrifice when pots ran out)
and a druid (mark of the wild)

I also took a magic resistant potion, after 2 minutes of drinking it, I drank an invulernability potion and started the shard channeling.

Failed, but with look, the Doomguard Commander started to channel rain of fire, started the imprisonment again, and with orders of me, the rest of the group didn't attack. The hunter cleverly placed an ice trap, once Doomguard stopped channeling, it sprung the trap, preventing it interupting me. :)

A job well done, took a few attempts but got it. It seems to interupt the imprisonment a lot, couldn't figure out if it was because the others were attacking it or because i was too close and it was doing something to everyone.
Found an idle doomguard near the dreadlord part of the tainted scar (near where kazzak crator).

Look forward to testing it :)

There is a lone commander near 37,68.

You'll definitely die getting there, so make sure you die in a safe spot near that loc.

I didn't have a free action potion on me, so i just went to try without it.

I zapped from as far as i could, i tried to let pet take agro, but i figured that was pointless after the second hit. I sac'd immediately after, and than the doomguard proceeded to cast rain of fire. I guess thats why it was so lucky, it was stuck casting rain of fire, so it didn't even try to stun me. I absorbed all the RoF damage and proceeded to trap no problem with better than half my life left.

But go with the other guys suggestion and take a free action potion with you. But if you are there already and you dont, try to do it without it.

This is much easier to solo than the pre-req (The Prison's Casing, which takes longer b/c of the droprate). I did this in about 15 minutes. Strip down and ride into TS. I found a lone DGC by going down the hill, and then up the hill. He should be by himself just when you get to the top of the hill on the right (coords in previous post). Positioned as far away from adds as possible, then sent in VW. Started channel and popped VW at the same time. First time he warstomped me and I died, but it was okay since i was soulstoned and had no breakable equipment on me. Second time, I did the same thing and he cast Rain of Fire, allowing me to finish the channel. So, if you're going to solo this, warstomp = auto-loss, rain of fire = auto-win. I finished with about 15-20% life left when I did it. If the DGC casts rain of fire, he has no time to do enough damage to kill you before you can finish channeling. Very easy and no potions required.

Still easy to solo. I took off my gear, but managed to get to the mob without dying (was close though). I found a place near the loc and used eye of kilrogg to find it. I sacrificed vw and started channelling but he stunned me and it broke. I used ss for another try and this time it worked.

Yes don't be scared of this one. Once you find the lone guard its actually very easy. I had a rougue and warrior pound him while i sacr. a voidy to protect me from his attentions and started channeling. Got it first go without a hickup. In retrospect it probably would be quite easy to solo this. Not sure how useful this will ever be....killing a pc and all to get a pet but its nice to have for the sake if completion.....Good luck
