Glyph Chasing

Rutgar Glyphshaper at Bronzebeard's Encampment in Silithus wants you to venture to Hive'Ashi, Hive'Zora, and Hive'Regal and recover Glyphed Rubbings from the Glyphed Crystals of each hive.

Use the Geologist's Transcription Kit to make a reasonable facsimile of the ancient glyphs. Return to Rutgar Glyphshaper when you complete this task.

Hive'Regal Rubbing

Provided Item:
Geologist's Transcription Kit

Description

After our initial foray into the hives and Mistress Mar'alith's subsequent madness the three hives have been spewing out bugs! The increased activity might be tied into the glyphs covering those strange crystals.

We must get a rubbing from crystals in all three hives. If we can get those rubbings, we might be able to make sense of this madness.

Take this transcription set and hit those hives, <name>. Don't come back until you've gotten copies from each hive.

Note: All glyphs have no cast timer. As long you click it, you get the item. This means so long as you can solo one elite bug, you can solo the entire quest.

Hive Ashi - Hive entrance at 48,25. Go to the very bottom hive entrance. Turn right. Crystal is in front of you 50,26.

Hive Zora - Hive entrance at 27,66.
Continue down the hive all the way east. This glyph is deep within the hive. The hive terminates in a circular rooms with about 15-20 wasps. The glyph is inside at 36,63

Hive Regal - Enter the Hive at 55,87. Go around the bend and head south. Continue heading south ignoring all forks until you reach the termination of the hive. The glyph is gaurded by 6-7 elites + Natalia at 53,100

Here is a complete walkthrough I just created for my guild detailing the entire quest chain with pictures. Enjoy...

The quest line starts at Cenarion Hold in Silithus:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map1.jpg

Talk to Commander Mar'alith and he will give you a quest called Dearest Natalia.

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling1.jpg

Then head south to the Bronzebeard Encampment:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map2.jpg

Speak with the 2 dwarves there- Frankal Stonebridge and Rutgar Glyphshaper (also make sure you pet the monkey):

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling2.jpg

They will tell you a big story about how this lady went crazy, which completes the Dearest Natalia quest and unlocks 2 other mini-quests which you must also complete.

The names of these quests are Breaking the Code which will be given to you by Frankal and Glyph Chasing which will be given to you by Rutgar. *Note: Rutgar also hands you a Geologist's Transcription Kit which is needed to complete his quest, so if you accidentally delete it just abandon the quest and talk to him again to get a new one.

Now before you start these quests, return to Commander Mar'alith in Cenarion Hold and turn in the Dearest Natalia quest. He will give you a new quest called Into the Maw of Madness, which you will complete while doing the other 2.

Basically these quests are going to take you into the 3 hives of Silithus (Hive'Ashi, Hive'Zora and Hive'Regal):

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map3.jpg

It doesnt matter which ones you do first, however I recommend a party of 5 to move through it quickly (although you can still do it fairly easy with 2-3 skilled people).

SUMMARY OF "GLYPH CHASING": In the middle of each hive that is a cave that you need to enter and explore until you find the final room. In this room there will be a small white crystal that you use the Geologist's Transcription Kit on to obtain the rubbing. This quest is completed once you obtain a rubbing from each Hive.

SUMMARY OF "BREAKING THE CODE":&nbsp Make sure you check the bodies of each bug you kill on the way to (and from) the final room of each hive. You are looking for a white quest item named xxx Silithid Brain (xxx being the name of the hive). It is a random drop so if you havent gotten it by the time you finished coming out of the cave then make sure you continue killing bugs until it drops. This quest is completed once you obtain a Silithid Brain from each Hive.

SUMMARY OF "INTO THE MAW OF MADNESS": Inside the final room Hive'Regal you will find a Night Elf priest named Natalia Mar'alithnamed. This quest is completed once you kill her and loot the item from her body.&nbsp (Dont forget to obtain the rubbing from the crystal in that room).

Once you complete all 3 quests return to Commander Mar'alith in Cenarion Hold and turn in Into the Maw of Madness. Then return to the dwarves in Bronzebeard Encampment and turn in Breaking the Code to Frankal and Glyph Chasing to Rutgar.

At this point Rutgar will give you another quest named Unraveling the Mystery. This quest is simple, just take the Glyphed Crystal Prism that he gives you to Geologist Larksbane in Cenarion Hold:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling3.jpg

She will then give you the final quest named The Calling!

At this point you will need a group of 25-40 people to kill the Emissary Romankhan. If your guild is already raiding AQ-40 then it's prolly easiest to just wait until the next raid night and kill him prior to heading inside. Otherwise have fun spamming the LFG channel.

He is summoned at the Bones of Grakkarond:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map4.jpg

Once he is dead check his body for loot and then return to Geologist Larksbane in Cenarion Hold. Once you turn in The Calling she will give you another quest that you instantly turn in to claim your reward and receive your +25 NR legs!

Hive'Regal Glyph is in the south west hive entrance, at the end where the level 62 elite Night Elf Priestess is. It's good to do the "Into the Maw of Madness (Elite)" quest at the same time.

Hive'Zora Glyph is in the south hive entrance in a similar position to the Hive'Regal Glyph.

Hive'Ashi Glyph is in the eastern entrance.

Hive'Zora glyphed crystal location:

Take the cave entrance at the most south-eastern corner of the hive. Once you're in the cave, finding the crystal is simple follow the cave right through to the eastern most end. The crystal is in the center of the round room filled with non-elite wasps. Easily soloed as a rogue, but I have no idea for other classes.

Once you're standing at the crystal, the aggro range on the wasps isn't large enough for them to see you (they are round the outside of the room), so you won't need your vanish cooldown.

It would also be good to note, that the wasps will aggro in large packs. They have a powerful poison that does stack, so if you don't have a way of dispelling the poison or healing through it, I wouldn't suggest coming here alone, unless you can avoid getting hit all together.

I tried duo-ing this with a 60 war and me (60 priest). We got to the night elf without much trouble, but she kept MCing the war or me and tried twice to kill her, both failed. (At least we didn't get ported to Westfall)

Anyways, came back with a 60 lock and us two, and pwned her fine. The warlock DoTed her and kept her feared. She has about 28k health, and will heal herself when she has about 15% health, so be prepared to stop the heals.

Also, you might want to grab the two quests from Bronzebeard camp before you do this quest. He gives you a rubbings quest that you complete right next to her and a drop quest from any of the hive elites.

How about some ACTUAL COORDINATES, rather than "South"?

Here, I'll start.

Hive'Zora is at 37,62, take the most southeasterly entrance (tunnel entrance is at 27,65). Bring a mage or warlock for the 4-wasp swarms surrounding it. It's very hard to stealth around them, and very hard to beat them without AoE spells.

All three can be stealthed fairly easily.

In Hive'Regal, Natalia can be sapped. Rogues should use distract so they can sap from behind. Druids should refer to the following paragraph.

In all three cases of glyphs to transcribe, the mechanism for the quest is merely to click on the crystal which brings up a window immediately. There isn't even an "Opening Container" casting time-it's instantaneous. Click on the only dialogue option, then start running. Vanish is handy, but, alas, druids don't get that.

Hive'Ashi's glyph is in the tunnels closest to Cenarion Hold.
Hive'Zora's glyph is in the southeasternmost tunnels.
Hive'Regal's is in Natalia's tunnel. I think that was the southernmost one. I might be a bit off.

This quest, as far as I know, is indeed possible for a rogue to solo. I did it at 59.

Basically, you concentrate on using Distract to move past all the mobs in your way. While it might not be necessary, I recommend you wait for Distract to cool down before progessing past a mob (you might think it's time-consuming to do this, but you must realize, it's easier to do this than it is to even get 3 people to succeed at killing their way through).

You should be able to make it to the glyphs without aggro from a single mob. Getting the rubbings is somewhat more difficult. However, it is made much easier by the fact that collecting the rubbings is not done in typical quest fashion. There is no progress bar that appears as you attempt to collect the rubbing (were this the case, you'd be interrupted in the process by the aggroed mobs, and probably quickly killed).

Instead, the glyphs act like NPCs might. When you click on them, quest text appears on your screen and you're given the opportunity to accept the objective. If you have instant quest text enabled, this process will take about one second. This is more than enough time for you to collect the rubbing, and then Vanish should that be necessary.

Hive'Ashi: This glyph is surrounded by several elite mobs. At lvl 59 I aggroed them all. After gathering my rubbing, I Vanished with about 60% health left.

Hive'Zora: This glyph is surrounded by several non-elite mobs. At lvl 59, I did not aggro them except when one of them approached close enough to attack me, thus drawing all the others. I imagine that in some cases, you would be able to re-enter stealth without drawing aggro at all.

Hive'Regal: This glyph is "guarded" by Natalia, a NE priestess who was corrupted after exploring the hive with an exploration party. She later returned there and became friendly with the silithid there. My experience with this glyph is abnormal, because when I entered the room, a group was in the process of defeating Natalia. After helping them out I gathered my rubbing. I imagine that since she is humanoid, she can be sapped. This would allow you plenty of time to gather your rubbing, then Vanish.

I hope this helps any rogues interested in doing this quest solo.

This is very easily stealthed as a 60 druid as long as you understand that you're going to die. Take off all your gear that has durability. No point in accruing a repair bill.

I aggro'd nothing stealthing in to the glyphs. In Ashi, there are elites too close to the glyph to avoid when you unstealth, so pop up and click on it quickly. Click the chat text in the window to get your rubbing and then move to a place where you can recover your body before the elites kill you.

In Zora, if you pop out of prowl standing right on the glyph, you won't aggro any of the mobs in the chamber.

Do Regal last. The glyph is guarded by that NE chick, but you can pop and get your rubbing before she kills you. Again, try to die somewhere along the wall where you think you can recover your body. Run back, recover your body and then stealth out. If you do Regal last, you'll be near the camp to turn in the quest.

The wasp packs in Hive Zora are pretty tough, I attribute this to being because these mobs weren't elite before 2.3, and tuned to be about as difficult as a solo elite before, so they remain at that difficulty even after 2.3.
