Description

The herbs of the Barrens are not quite like herbs in other lands. Their properties are mostly the same, but the oasis water here alters the plants; they are just slightly different.

I want to study those differences... to see if they're exploitable!

If you are skilled in herbalism, then gather root samples off the herbs you find in the Barrens. Bring back these samples so that I may compare them with herbs from other regions.

You can find the Root Samples with the other plants you find in Barrens. When you open the lootbox of any plant in Barrens you will get a sample as extra.

Need to have herbalism to get this quest, not sure what skill level needed.

Root Sample can be found in any herb patch.

Just to clarify, as the quest description itself is not all that clear.

To do this quest you have to already be a herbalist, and basically you run around gathering herbs like normal, but while the quest is active, you will receive a bonus item "Root Sample" when you are gathering.

I found the root sample on anything I gathered (briarthorn, silverleaf, earthroot, etc.)

I could not pick up this quest at Herbalism 37.&nbsp Came back at Herbalism 50, lvl 10 and could pick it up.

I found the samples with silver root. The level I was in that profession was probably in the 20's or 30's, but the samples are with the roots that you start with for gathering, so it probably does not matter what level you are in that profession.

Well, it is in Ratchet - a neutral (contested) place - I'd say it would have to be both Horde and Alliance. I am Horde, so I cannot speak to Alliance, but I'd say Alliance can probably get it...

Come from the south, then walk around Crossroads, hope that the other horde there dont try and get you then run to ratchet, get the quest, stay away from The Crossroads while you do this quest.

The only thing is that coming from the south has higher levels cuz the south leads to 1K Needles (level 35 - something) so might take abit if you are like level 20 alliance.

#1: Make sure your Herbalism skill is at least 70 before trying this quest. Half of the readily availble roots near Ratchet are Briarthorn, which requires a skill of 70. 50 would be the bare minimum to not get frustrated with this quest, so you can at least gather Mageroyal.

#2: Head for one of the Oasis. The Stagnant Oasis is very near Ratchet. Since this is The Barrens, you would logically expect most of the "growing stuff" to be near water, and it actually works that way. With a skill of at least 50 you'll have this quest done in under 5 minutes there.

...of hearthing back to Crossroads. Here is how:

Lushwater Oasis -- which is right outside Wailing Caverns. I just finished this quest at lvl 14 Warrior and got all 8 roots. The harvesting nodes are close at the waters edge and spawn fast. Much faster than running around like a headless troll all over the Barrens.

The herbs are also low lvl silverleaves so your herbalism doesn't have to be over 70. In fact all the herbs there was silverleaves.

You can also do the Fungal Spore quest from Helbrim at Crossroads as the fungals spawn there to.

Only thing to warn against is of course the mobs, lvl 12-14ish horsemen (along with a named one with an entourage--didn't notice his lvl as I was too busy running from him and his cronies). Oh and don't be tempted to swim over the Oasis water. Good way to get dead unawares.

All in all, a very fine quest except no use for me to wear the price.

this seems worthless but i'll do it just for fun, since there are no other quest for herbalist other than the marrowgrain questline (which has been boring me) might as well make use of my skill for something other than profit or supporting my non-herbalist alchemist girlie.
