Scouring the Desert

Find and deliver Silithyst to the Silithyst Extractor, then speak with Marshal Bluewall at the Alliance encampment near Hive'Zora.
  •
Return Silithyst

Description

We recently found out that the Horde has been scavenging the Silithus desert for resources, but paid them little mind. We thought it could not be worth it to station large numbers in this sweltering desert.

However, it was discovered the importance of the resources, and now we are scrambling to catch up.

If I have your assistance, you must go into the desert and recover the silithyst and return it here.

FOR ALLIANCE:

You will be looking for small Gyser that look like this:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Getitboi/WoWScrnShot_012108_203520.jpg
and are usually found near Mountain like structurs that look like this:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Getitboi/WoWScrnShot_012108_194511.jpg
which are just south of the quest giver, just follow the dark road type path to its end:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/Getitboi/WoWScrnShot_012108_194606.jpg

You will then Carry the aura on your body to a machine close to the quest giver:

First step: Search the Silithus desert for a Silithus Mound. When you click on it you will be covered in a bright dust. Speed is slightly reduced.

Next Step: Run back to the camp where you picked up the quest. There is a machine you need to step into located @ (32,50). This will complete the returning silithus part of the quest.

Final Step: Now go back to the questgiver to turn it in.
He is located right in that camp!

Simple!

Run around Silithus looking for the Silithyst Geyser.&nbsp When you click on it, it makes you PvP flagged and covers you in a dust, reducing your run speed.&nbsp For alliance you need to run back to your base located at Hive 'Zora at 32,50 and run up to or into the machine at those coordinates and it turns it in.

Hope that helps,

Pick it up from little things on the ground whiel running around Silithus.&nbsp You cant mount or you're no longer carrying the item and you are slowed by a % of movement speed - I'll add that again later.

Carry the item on foot to the camp where you do the field duty quest.

Turn in by walking up near that glowy thing at the camp - done.

You also recieve Traces of Silithus for 30 minutes increasing melee and spell damage by 5%

easy 100 rep.&nbsp :D

***Edit***

100 rep for first turn in, after that +10 rep.&nbsp The damage bonus is only recieved by the person actually carrying the 'flag' and the 'flagged' person cannot feign death/vanish etc - but can use aspect of the Cheetah and sprint.&nbsp I'd assume this would mean no vanish either or hiding.&nbsp Rogues update?

The key point here is you have to RUN back to the camp. If you attempt to mount, then you are no longer "carrying the Silithus Mound".

You get flagged for PVP after you pick up the Silithyst. I received 19 Honor points on entering the machine for turn-in. After Patch 2.4, exp 9550, rep 500 and 20 rep on subsequent turn-ins.

Also as a level 58 Night Elf Hunter, I got mobbed by four at once on the first run. Once my pet aggro'd I ran a bit further and feigned at which time the Silithyst came off me but landed in a pile on the ground. When the mobs left me for my pet, I got up and recollected from the new pile and turned on AOC and ran. When pet distance broke him from me, I whistle him back to my side. Was no problem and made first two runs without swinging or shooting.

Quite easy for the XP, Rep and Honor Points.

Aspect of the cheeta does NOT increase your speed while carring this.
The thing you are looking for spawns in random places and looks like a hot smoking large piece of coal on the ground.

Travel form does increase your speed...but not as much as you would probably like it to when the silithyst debuff is on.

I was using travel form last night and I was able to travel "marginally" faster than my non druid co-players who were also carrying silithyst.&nbsp I assume it has something to do with travel form increasing a post calculated speed making the debuff slow everyone at the same percentage.&nbsp

Keep in mind this is totally not going to save you from being raped by the local arachnids or opposing faction.&nbsp However, shapeshifting DOES still break spider netting and other movement impairing effects, so even though the increase in speed wasn't enough to save my life, I "chain-shapeshifted" so I could escape certain doom when the spiders and scorps got a snif of that Arachnidian Spanish Fly called Silithyst.

Look for a small geyser thing on the grounds of silithus near hive zora and abroad. Right click to collect. They look like little glowing piles of dirt, and periodically toss a spout into the air.
Picking one up flags you pvp, so be warned.
Also, mounting once you have the glow will drop the item, and you're still flagged.
Return to camp near Zora and step into the gnomish machine looking thing (similar to the one outside IF to change into an elf at Christmas) to turn it in.
Speak with Marshall Bluewall to complete.
Don't forget, you are flagged.
As far as I know, the quest is not repeatable, but collecting the items and returning them in the same fashion will result in continued building of rep and honor.

Cheers

Just checked and the quest is repeatable for reputation with Centurian Circle.

Increased reputation by 20 points each time I returned Siltithus to the extractor.

I found the Silithyst Geiser right next to the Bones of Grakkaron 35.55, got covered in it, and ran back to the camp: it is the shortest distance, I believe. Did this with my 55 Druid in cat form.

Mythaniel covered about all the bases.

The only thing I might add is that when you are carrying the stuff your
movement speed is significantly lowered. As most of you know Silithus is
packed with aggressive mobs. So it isn't a bad idea to clear a route before
picking the stuff up.

If you stealth/vanish or mount you'll drop the stuff. Just pick it back up if
you forget.
