Description

I am devising a potion that requires rare mushrooms, mushrooms that grow only in a certain cave. The cave lies behind Cliffspring Falls, to the east and slightly north along the mountains.

I would go there myself, but I was advised by the Grove of the Ancients to stay away from that place. Our venerable allies sense that the cave is the hiding place for a new evil in Darkshore.

Please, <name>, gather the mushrooms for me. And while doing so, scout the cave to confirm the Ancients' fears.

If your soloing this quest it's easier to go to the right after you enter the cave. There are two death caps up there and only a couple of naga. If your careful they are easily single pulled. The other mushrooms respawn fast so you won't have to go very far into the cave.

At the very east side of the Cliffspring River (55,34), is a cave occupied by Naga. The Saber Stalk and Death Cap can be found inside. Be warned though: This area is very dangerous! Even at level 16-17 you can find yourself in serious trouble if you aren't careful...

Follow the path north till you reach the bridge at Cliffspring river. Follow the stream inland toward the mountain be on the east side of the river. Youll get to a waterfall, follow the path up the mountain beside the waterfall. The cave is behind the waterfall at the top of the path.

When I went to the cave, it was guarded by an Elite lvl 16 serpent man and pulling him would have probably brought 2 more adds. Just FYI if you are planning on an easy quest. There is one of the Scaber Stalks at the entrance that is safe.

Did this quest last night with a pick up group that formed at the cave mouth. There were 2 Druids, 2 Warriors, and a Hunter. Levels were 14 - 16. We basically ran amok through the caves killing whatever crossed our paths. Only took about 15 minutes for all of us to have the quest items and there were some nice drops to roll on along the way.

There are usually enough people questing at the 3 furblog camps in the immediate vicinity of the cave so anyone who is having problems soloing this quest might want to visit the camps to form a group.

Good Luck,

On the map, the cave is on the north side of where the Cliffspring River flows into the mountains. I follow the path from Auberdine all the way to the bridge and run through the river until I hit the Cliffspring Falls and take a path to the left (north) of the falls.

The death cap is amidst 4-5 guys that are at the end of the "path" if you go right after walking in. I was able to get enough Scaber Stalks by grabbing everything on the right side twice (on the way to the death cap and on the way back.) I had no need to go to the lower level. There was a chest down there but that wasn't reason enough =D

I did it as a 17 Druid with no troubles with adds or anything. Only advise I have is not to stand with your back to the abyss since these guys throw you backwards. I would hate to fall into a mob.

This q really sucks! Mobs spawn far to fast, and are so god damn hard to kill. + Those damn patrols, and u can't do anything without aggroing them!

Can't do this with lvl 15 druid..

The Scaber Stalks are pretty easy to get, but the Death Cap is what makes this quest hard. They are buried deep in the cave and you'll have to fight your way back there. Also be as quick as possible since the MOBs spawn VERY QUICKLY!!!

This quest is not hard, but can be if you get careless. Your best course of action, due to the faster spawn times, is to take your time and have your Hearthstone ready when you complete. Otherwise you'll be killing your way out.

If you're lucky, you'll get the Death Cap on the upper floor as apposed to inside the cavern deeps.

Warning!: Unless you are sure of yourself and your skill/level, do not attempt to kill the Twilight Thugs. The drop rate for the quest giving book is extremely low. "IF" you decide to take them on, your best bet is to use some immoblizing effect on one of the Twilight Thugs and Nuke the caster/healer. You may die at this point. Run back as quickly as possible, immobilize the lower of the two Twilight Thugs and Nuke the other. You 'MAY' die again (this is why it's not worth it to me). Run back quickly, kill the last, hope the healer doesen't respawn, because you 'MAY' die again! If the Twilight Thugs are orange to you, don't even try. I suggest not trying unless at least one of them (probably the healer) is green. (This is based on a Rogue's perspective and may change with other classes.)

When you're getting to the cave you take right.
55,35 is where you can find the Death cap, you gotta go trough the small cave as it is to the end.

It's not especially long & you have to kill about 7-10 to get to the Death Cap & along the way you can find the other mushroom you need.

Can be found in the Naga Cave. 55,35. If you take a right it will lead to two death caps, so if you are in a group its very helpful. Granted I was 21 when I did this quest so I did it solo style.

I've done this quest several times with various levels of different classes.&nbsp I went to do it with my new hunter, and the deathcap wasn't there.&nbsp The white ones were all where they belonged, but the deathcap was not in the back right where it always has been.&nbsp I cleared the whole cave, looked everywhere, died twice, and no respawn.&nbsp Has the location been changed? Has the quest sprung a bug?

Ah, edit.&nbsp It now spawns in various places in the cave. I just found it on the bottom level, near the thugs.

I died five times trying to solo this quest.&nbsp The only reason I eventually won is because I accidentally pulled just one of the two "Thugs."&nbsp I still didn't even try to fight my way out.

By the way, I was at level 20.

Hunters are somewhat different, at lvl10 they got pet (which on that low level is much tougher even than a Warlocks WV) and with Mend Pet they are able to solo easily most of the quests, even harder ones (one man army - a tank pet, Mend Pet healer and a dpser which ranged skills).

The mobs inside cave ARE hard. Either warriors, which are doing quite a bit damage and cast some sort of spell that knocks you back, interrupting action and, if you are really unlucky, dropping you down to 100% death. Priestes on the other hand casts Smite dealing about 40 holy dmg and when low on hp, heal (that is giving them 100% health back). Add to that big density of mobs there and that Nagas will try to flee, bringing more and more adds (and don`t forget about one or two patrols) and you will get one small hell.

I done this quest 3 times and each time I was able to solo it by going right way (tho at the end I always ended up fighting 2 mobs). However, today (when I was doing this as a 15lvl druid) there was no Death Cap on right side (I figured it out after 20minutes of fight and 2 deaths...). 1 hour later I returned there with a 3 man party and somehow we menaged to get to the Mushrooms (3 of them) located below. However, that way is close to imposible (if not impossible for most classes) to solo due to numerours Nagas and the Twilight Thugs.

In short words - you can try to solo it going the right way BUT if there are no Mushroom, either get a party, a hight level (20 or so) or forget about it.

Died once going in (was unexpectedly pulled into a nasty battle all ready in progress). Went back, and there was another lvl 16 druid doing the same quest. We helped double teamed the bad guys (with my pet also) and took turns collecting mushroos. I got 4 mushrooms + death cap before I died again. Went back to my body and used Shadowmeld until the coast was clear and quickly picked up my fifth (last mushroom) without a problem. Hung around the cave until I died again, collecting lots of copper killing (the drops were anywhere between 15 and 49 each).

Like most caves, this isn't that bad as a Hunter. Send you pet in to melee, then stand back and hit them with your arrows. Even when they regenerate their health, you're already doing enough damage to kill them quickly and move on to the next one.

As you get deeper into the tunnel, there are humanoids who do much damage.

Anyone knows what's in that chest? Didn't get a chance to grab it and may want to go back in depending on the reward.

Takes some patience but possible.

Buff yourself up with fortitude and inner fire.

First lure those at the entrance out one by one, take care not to lure too many. If more than one comes, use power word: shield and run, come back when they gave up chasing.

Start with smite, then shadow word: pain, then continue smite and mind blast till its dead. After the first smite, when it comes towards you, cast power word: shield.

Continue inching into the cave, keep to the right wall.. till u got everything.

If you're a herbalist, all the better. Switch on track herbs, you'll see where each type of shroom is on the map radar.

Not sure if this has been changed, or if it's just random, but deathcap mushroom is no longer up the hill to the right, you need to go DOWN and follow the cave around where a few of the spawn, but were protected by a gnome and an orc, defias I believe. Drove us nuts going up the hill a few times today until I asked and found out it was now down...

Just a reminder, this is the same place you go to for the Druid quest "The Principle Source".

For that one the young Druid needs to stand in the waterfall at the entrance to the cave to fill the container.

So if you're a Druid doing either this quest, "Cave Mushrooms", pick up the Principle Source quest as well. Fill the container at the entrance and then go inside for the 'shrooms. Why make two trips to the same place, ya know?

As a rogue, you can do this without having to kill anything. They all run and its hard to pull 'em. So, stealth next to the mushrooms, wait for the roving one to pass, SAP the one closest to the mushroom, get the mushroom, then stealth again. And go right. I actually stealthed my way into the back and got the deathcap first, then came down for the others.

Sap rank 1 is for 25 seconds, and the cooldown on Stealth is 10 seconds and the getting the mushrooms themselves is about 5 seconds which you can do while your stealth is cooling down.

Great quest for a rogue to do solo.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, this q is a breeze compared to the vast deep ocean q, one of the worst q's ever.

Solo'ed it as a draenei lvl 16 priest. Just make sure you pull one at the time, keep your inner fire and shield up and wand a lot, so you don't waste too many mana (you need it, cause the sirens can heal themselves). (PVE-) talents like spirit tap and wand spec. do wonders here. If you pull two mobs, finish the one you were currently fighting and take the next one. Use fear in emergencies. As a draenei i had some advantages: when the first one died, i shielded and used gift of naruu and symbol of hope, so i had some good health and mana regen.

When you go in, take a right and pick up the Scaber Stalks on the way. If you're being careful enough, you should be able to pull one mob at the time. At the end of the pad, there is a Death Cap. Take it, go back and get the Scaber Stalks which respawned by then. Wave at the naga you see below: you'll get the mushrooms easily by then, so you don't have to go down there. Be careful when fighting the mobs on your way back: others can respawn, without you noticing them.

Again in emergencies, use fear. You can just run in a straight line out the cave and jump off the waterfall, if you feel to.

This one is hard if you do not take your time and try to single pull. I finished with a lvl 16 hunter, killing almost all the mobs in the cave. I could not find the upper level deathcap, so I proceeded down the ramp and to the left. Patients is the key here. Make sure you plan your pulls good. If you have a pet with growl then you will not have to worry about the knock back.

This one was a bit tricky. The best approach to it is take it one snake at a time. Do not rush into this one. The male snakes are fighters and the female snakes are mages. Kill the 1 to 2 that are outside of cave. Then just as you enter there is a mushroom to your left. Now if your a Rogue stealth to the far right of the cave all the way to the back and get the Death Cap. Then kill the one in back that will attack you then Stealth back to entrance and keep getting your mushrooms till your quest is done. That way if you die you can rez and still have time to heal before you need to kill the guard again and get your mushrooms collected.

I soloed this whole thing with a 17 human warrior who is not supertwinked by any stretch of the imagination.

First, getting to the cave is easy. Follow the road up to Cliffsprings River, then follow the river southeast until you reach a very large waterfall (in fact, the cave is right on the map). On the left side of the waterfall as you face it, you will see a path leading to the top of the waterfall. The cave is there, behind a small curtain of water.

The males can hit hard and do have a nasty proc that will fling you backward, but it's easy to deal with: just fight with your back against a wall. The sorcerers are best charged in place they have a healing spell, but can't stand up to a lot of pounding. They both run, so have some way to slow them down or you'll regret it. (As a warrior, I used hamstring).

The regular mushrooms are everywhere, so pick them as available, but head up the rightside ramp toward the death mushroom first. It IS guarded by three mobs, level 16-17, but they are all easily single pullable. I got one male and two casters I pulled the male but took both casters in place, and none of them added.
