Insane Druids

Kill the druids: Taneel Darkwood, Uthil Mooncall, Mavoris Cloudsbreak; then return to Kayneth Stillwind in Forest Song.
  •
Taneel Darkwood slain
  •
Uthil Mooncall slain
  •
Mavoris Cloudsbreak slain

Description

When I struggled with the Forsaken's poisons, I had a vision. I had a vision of the druids in the Dor'danil Barrow Den, poisoned... murdered by the undead! They are now errant ghosts, severed from their bodies and driven mad.

So that the druids' spirits might some day find peace, you must enter the Dor'danil Barrow Den and destroy its once great leaders: Taneel Darkwood, Uthil Mooncall and Mavoris Cloudsbreak.

Do this, then return to me.

You can find these three in the underground area in south east Ashenvale. The entrace is at about 76, 75. Mobs respawn fairly quickly, so try not to move too slow. There are also stealthed mobs and patrolling mobs, so keep an eye out for them.

Once you're in, Taneel is in the room across the first bridge you come across. The mobs before him can be single pulled. He's a priest with a fairly painful Shadow Word: Pain and his Heal heals him pretty much to full health, so just watch for those.

For Mavoris, go down the ramp to the left and take your first left. Follow the tunnel to the bridge that leads into the middle of a cavern with a bridge directly opposite. Cross both those brides and follow the tunnel. Mavoris is at the end. He has two mobs in front of him that pull together. Take them out and then Mavoris is easy.

For Uthil, go back to the room with the two bridges opposite each other and go down the ramp. Take the first tunnel to your right. Follow it, go down the ramp to your left and take the first tunnel to your left. Uthil is the bear in the room at the end of that tunnel and is fairly straight foward to defeat.

I have cosmos but always get confused in dens, so here goes:

When you enter, head down the main tunnel then go straight across the bridge to Taneel Darkwood (77,74).

From his den turn right and go downward, follow that tunnel, then go straight across two bridges. You'll be inside a den, on the left in there is another tunnel, at the end of that is Mavis Cloudbreak(74,74). He's also in front of a Solid Chest.

Back out through the same tunnel and den, go down the steps on the left and through another tunnel, when it opens bear down and left to Uthil(78,72). I recommend hearthing out, though you can go back the way you came.

I did this as a level 31 Human Mage and died ad infinitum. Finally gave up and called my level 48 hunter friend <shrug>. I will say arcane explosion exposed the stealth and frost nova held them.

I think a more detailed walkthrough would be helpful for this quest.

Before you begin, try to make sure your hearthstone has a short cooldown on it. The journey into the barrowden is long, and getting out is tedious. Hearthing out is recommended.

The Den is at 75, 75 as previous posters have mentioned.

Go down the entrance, which is a long spiral. At the end of this part, you will see two bridges, one going ahead, one to the right, and a ramp downwards to your left. Go across the center bridge.

There you will find Taneel Darkwood. He is a Priest type, and heals himself and casts shadow word Pain on you.

Return across the bridge and take the ramp down. You will notice an entrance to your left, IGNORE IT and follow the spiral down the right.

You will come to another open area, with a bridge going across directly ahead, and a ramp down to your left. IGNORE the bridge and follow the ramp down. As before, there will be a passage leading to your left. IGNORE IT (for now), and follow the spiral downwards and to the right.

At the bottom of the spiral you will see the bear druid, Uthil Mooncall. He is in bear form, has some armor.

After killing him, turn around and head back up a bit. Head to the passage you just ignored earlier, now on your right. Go down it till you reach another open area. You should see a circular area with a ramp leading up to your left. Take the ramp.

You should come to a circular landing. Directly ahead and up you will see a balcony, where the third druid, Mavoris Cloudbreak, is located. To get to him, take the bridge to your right. This leads to a passage that snakes around to the left, leading to the balcony. Mavoris is basically a balance druid, he can summon a lightening cloud.

Then, either fight your way out... or hearth (recommended).

For the hunters who solo this... make sure that you take enough arrows/bullets with you... i ran out halfway and i spent a frustrating hr meleeing enemies. I digress though.

In terms of tracking, use track undead to spot Taneel Darkwood and Mavoris Cloudsbreak.

In relation to Uthil Mooncall however, you need to TRACK BEAST instead. Hope this hint helps because i spent ALOT of time walking around trying to figure out if/when uthil showed up on my minimap.

Completed this quest last night as a solo lvl 32 fire/arc spec'd mage.

Actually I cleared this cave top to bottom twice, and the lower half a third time as I hunted for Uthil, for some reason I had a hard time navigating and locating him. 2 clears because I ventured down in there before I realized there was a quest for the area. :)

Dying in this cave is a serious pain in the butt - the long walk, fast respawns and mob spacing pretty much dictate that you have to rez right next to a mob and fight him immediately, and risk getting an add (or two!) right after that. If you die, I recommend finding an alcove that has only one mob in it, rez, and go all out on him with your whole bag of tricks before healing up (for the mage, druids were less dangerous than assassins so that's the rez mob of choice for me). Then just assume that the whole cave has respawned, because it probably has.

I had a hard time finding Uthil until I realized that there are two very similar looking rooms. In both cases, as you enter from above there is an arched bridge ahead of you and a pathway to the left: the pathway splits into a tunnel and a U-turn to the right (usually a mob hiding in the lee of the U). The second such room, if you follow the U-turn, will take you directly to Uthil.

Because respawn rates are high and everything's humanoid, this is a great place to farm for silk, if you can stand the tight quarters. Picked up about 120 silk and >20,000 xp in 2.5 full clears of the cave.

If you're careful and patient with your progress and pulling, you can fight almost every monster 1v1 with no adds. I also had no problems with the druids healing because I saved an instant attack in reserve for just such an occasion (or just CS'd 'em). That might be more difficult for classes without instant attacks.

Mages: fireballs are your friend against the assassins. DoT breaks their stealth, though you may have to retarget. IAM is also money, and if you get in trouble, Frost Nova. Don't blow your FN wad early, use it for when they stealth and disappear completely on you.

Also note: sheeped assassins can still disappear. Wacky.

Hunter's mark is excellent for tagging the cloaked rouges, but sometimes I wasn't fast enough on the draw so I used the flare ability that Hunters get.&nbsp Works great..also helps groups see cloaked chaps.

This quest ain't so hard, just have to be patient.
You can easily pull mobs 1 at a time, just move slowly and prepare for the unseen, keep you health and mana at max all time so you can strike when needed.

The bosses aren't aggresive, which means you can take out the mobs next to the boss without having to fight the boss at the same time. Then when all is cleared around them you can attack the boss.

Most bosses aren't really hard, the healing one can be tough though, especially when you lack the ability to heal yourself, so take potions to cover for that one.

I really enjoyed this quest, only died once against the Druid who goes heal crazy as soon as you start fighting him. As someone pointed out before make sure you have plenty of arrows/bullets for this and plenty of food and mana potion. As you will be using a lot of healing for your pet and it will drain your mana. Always send your pet in first, wait until he's gotten the enemy down to half life and then attack, and watch your back, these guys revive quick! I got lots of xp even at lv 35, so I'll probably go back until I get to lv 36. -)

Pretty easy quest to do as a level 35 fire Mage. The quest was gree to me so I knew it would not be too hard to complete. I can't use the reward but the exp and faction is useful.

Once you enter the underground lair take your time and kill one mob at a time. I fought my way down and to the right the whole way and found all the required named mobs. Easy kills but managed to take some adds here and there but I did not encounter any deaths or even any close calls.

Several green magical items dropped off the guard and patrol mobs:

Robust Tunic of the Monkey
Viking Sword of the Monkey
Firestarter
Superior Buckler of the Boar

After killing all three named mobs it's much more easy to hearth or port out. I ported out to Darn and flew to Azshara where it's a much shorter run to turn in the quest.

Besides the item reward, I got 3200 exp and 165 reputation points with Darnassus.

Excellent description and coords, i did this quest as a lvl 29 shadowpriest, and i was just gonna point out to the fellow priests here, if you do this before you have silence ManaBurn is your friend.

(This is only on the first druid, the others are cake)

Manaburn drains for ~100-200 each on that level and he had something like 1800 mana, shield up spam manaburn, dot up and start wanding.

When he regains enough mana to cast a spell manaburn again, bring a pot to be safe because he is extremely hard if you dont have any interupt abilities.

Solo'd as a LV34 Warlock, pretty easy. Hardest part was getting back out, I tried to hurry and avoid/run instead of fighting all the mobs (which BTW didn't work very well). As long as you're careful, look for the Stealthed guys and take out the wandering mobs first you should be fine.

Finished this as a lvl 29 NE Hunter It was not real hard as long as you know how to use your pet and take your time going through the cave. Each of the druids will not attack you until your attack first. This is good because you can clear out the room then send in the pet to attack. Each of them will focus on the pet and you can simply load em with arrows!

Soloed this as a lv32 Warrior. The druid that healed himself took me out the first time (I was lv30 at the time), came back with a 1.90 blue sword and ripped him a new one before he could reduce me to less than 50% HP.
The only time I had trouble was when after having fought 2 undead Rogues, 2 more came without me having chance to heal, then after THEY were dead a Dreamer came. After having sent him and his horse back from whence he came, I had used my Greater Healing Potion and was left standing with 19 HP.
Luckily I had bandages and food, so I survived fine.

Other two druids fell like traffic cones at a teenagers driving lesson.

i would definitely say this quest is worth the trouble.
i did it as a 36 priest and the only difficult thing was orientation in that *!@#ing cave (but the instructions on this site work). the druids are very easy to kill. u only have to be careful of the assasins and other bastards that pop out of the dark-go slowly and don't run. mostly i used shadow word pain+holy fire+starshards and i can confirm it is very efficient.mana burn is also a good choice. bring a lot of mana drinks though cause the mobs are usually one after the other so after each three u have to drink cause they drain your mana. i only died once when i was low on mana, took the wrong turn so 4 jumped me.
i got cca 200 xp per kill + 3 stacks of silk cloth +1 stack of wool cloth + some nice green items for sale on AH. all in all-definitely worth it!

pretty easy at level 30 NE rogue with a level 27 NE Druid as the healer., the only druid that caused a problem was the first cause i missed kicks when he was healing so it took longer thant it should have.

Any who spoiler below about where i found the druids(dunno if there are more spawns)

First is across the bridge that is directly in front of you as you come down the winding path(with a second bridge adjacent and angling to the right. Then we took a rule of thumb and went Right at the fork went on down to the next fork and went right again and found the second druid in bear form cake. came back and went left(second stop) and went up the platform path and right. Night elves should note that this resembles the relics of awakening quest and that third druid is found in the room where you find the last relic. as the druids dont attack you until you attack them, just make sure youve dominated all other mobs before you rush in and attakc the druids.

Tried this as a 30 druid. Fought/stealthed my way down to the first named druid on the list (Taneel Darkwood), across the bridge once you get down the first spiral. Managed to kill him, even though he was a pain in the rear. He heals, and casts Shadow Word: Pain. He finally died when he ran out of mana. Went to look for the next one, died and never managed to rez, so I just used the spirit healer. I definitely recommend having a partner for this quest.

Edit to add: Druids, be sure to use faerie fire on the assassins, so they don't disappear on you.

This cave is the same layout as from relics of the awakening, with the bosses in the same spots as 3 of the relics were. The spawn times aren't too fast, about 3 mins, by then you should be a couple kills on. If any kill takes you over 30 seconds then you are in over your head.

Died deep down due to adds as a 30 rogue.
You need to bring ways of healing up (potions / bandages / food) in order to beat the respawn. A way to maybe stop the undead assassins from vanishing (and somehow continuing to attack you whilst stealthed!) is to coat your weapons with damage over time poisons. I didn't try it because I enjoy using gouge / backstab too much.

Duo-ed with a 29 hunter no problem. Mobs weren't lasting more than 5 seconds.

Ok, since it is actually kinda hard to give specific directions in this kind of dungeon (withthe levels being really annoying) the best advise one can give is to tell people to just stay left or right whenever you reach the dungeon's first intersection. If you have the time you will eventually make it up again and have killed all three bosses. The trick with this is that if you just choose to go to the same side for an entire dungeon you cannot miss it.

I did this quest on my first main char a druid back when WoW was first out and boy is it still as annoying now. I am logged out in the dungeon now because I couldn't get to the last one (the one way down) last night.

One boss is located right across the bridge from where you exit the long tunnel going DOWN into the cave. There are 3 bridges at that point and the middle one takes you to a druid (cant remember his name). Iirc the lowest boss is situated on a balcony in the lowest part of the dungeon.

I can confirm the coords on the house, though.

This almost goes without saying, but don't pull the ghosts before the area is completely clear. They won't aggro (hence Saylee's note about them being "yellow" con) until you attack.

Hunters, watch your use of multi-shot here. It can get you in trouble early if you're not cautious.

This quest is listed at level 32 and rightly so. Doesn't need to be elite either.

A lv32 hunter can solo this without a problem. lv32 gives you flare, enough time to use Hunter's Mark. Hunter's pet will continue attacking the mob even if the undead rogues use the fading thing.

Target pet, press F, and voila.

Easy. Decent green drops, at least for me. And plenty of silk cloth to sell.

Completed this solo as a L32 NE R. Slow and steady wins the quest. I tried stealthing past the initial mobs in the entrance tunnel, but found it easier just to kill them one at a time so I didn't have to worry about patrolling mobs coming up behind me.

The mobs thin out after you get past the initial tunnel entrance. Killing Taneel, Uthil, and Mavoris is easy as they don't aggro until you strike first...preferably from behind with a DOT like Garotte. You MUST pull the guard mobs (usually two) that will be close to each of them. I used a good bow to pull each of them out, then went after the prime targets in each case.

After you kill the last Druid, you can stealth your way out, Hearthstone back to town, or Vanish/Sprint if you get detected since the back-spawn will have filled the entrance tunnel with mobs again by the time you get done.

Worst quest, that I've ever seen. If you kill them, one by one, that's too slow. If you try to sneak, then there are those invisible undeads, and those patroling undead druids. It's not an easy quest I think. You can kill all mobs easily, but you can't sneak, so it takes too much time.

Side note... Has any one noticed that some of the rooms in this place are bugged? you can't pull enemies out of them and you cant shoot in with out them evadign every shot and auto healing. (one of them had a warlock undead in it that kept making felsteeds he had 4 of them before i decided to commit suicide to get out of their). this doesnt make this place any easier.
