Ongeku

Maintain your reputation with the Gelkis, and bring a Draenethyst Shard to Uthek the Wise in the Gelkis Village in Desolace.
Draenethyst Shard
  •
Gelkis Clan Centaur (Friendly)

Description

You have more to prove, and your next task will take you far, so for now the Gelkis will fight the Magram without you.

The earth whispers many secrets to those who listen. One secret I hear is of a red crystal. It is called draenethyst, and it is new to our earth. It comes from a place where mountains fly, and where demons rule.

Bring me a shard of draenethyst, and it will make my magic strong! The shard is in a place called the Swamp of Sorrows, held by the lost one Ongeku.

From Desolace, walk/ride/fly in your most direct route to Auberdine, Darkshore (alliance) or Ratchet, Barrens (alliance or horde).

Auberdine: Take the boat to Menethil. Fly/walk to Ironforge, then fly/tram to Stormwind. Fly/walk south east to Duskwood, and from Darkshire (town) go east through Deadwind Pass then south-east along the roads to Swamp of Sorrows.

Ratchet: Boat to Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale, then walk/ride up to Duskwood. Avoid the guards if horde and take Deadwind Pass through to Swamp of Sorrows.

There may be a better route from STV to SoS that doesn't involve going through alliance ground, but I'm alliance so I didn't look into it much. I just saw the only feasible way to SoS is DWP, which is accessible from Duskwood.

Alliance: if you can't avoid/survive Barrens Guards, take the long menethil route, especially if you have all the FP's I meantioned. Its safe and familiar.

Coords are precise. For those who don't have Cosmos (missing out big time), simply follow the road to the left when it forks until you get to Fallow Sanctuary. He's near the back of this place near a campfire. If you have a class that can stealth, this quest is easy. If not, it'll be a long fight to get to him as the road is surrounded by mobs, making it hard to solo below lvl 40 or so. He's a lvl 37 non-elite that can be pulled alone and away from any trouble.

Its actually pretty easy all you have to do is go to grom gol run thru duskwood and go west into deadwind past which has no agroable mobs and you'll be in swamp of sorrows..

btw found him at 63,20

Swamp of Sorrows - Eastern Kingdom
If you are following the road east and get to Fallow Sanctuary, I found Onegku just past the first hut icon that you can see on the map. Actually, I came up from the river instead though, that way I didn't really have to spend tonnes of time killing my way in. He is by a cauldron over a fire, it's not super easy to see the cauldron but you can if you look closely. He was on the right side of the road, the black cauldron is ON the fire, with little bubbles coming out of it. He is non-elite and there are about 2 other non-elites near him...but I was able to pick them off individually first and THEN get Oneku.

Found him at 61.20 in Swamp of Sorrows. Easy as a 35 Paladin, but i took a couple deaths along the way due to the swarming little mud dudes and horde i nthe area. Once I positioned myself near him, I didnt have to move to close to aggro him alone.

When following the left road u'll find him at the DARKBLUE zone shown on the map. he's exact location should be around the 4th or 5th darkblue line starting from the right. Good luck!

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/mapset.html?zone=2019&type=Rare&size=Medium

p.s. I don't mean the coast line, to avoid any confusion.

he is next to the tarantula you need to feed for a new horde Q picked up in Stoneard :)

also "Lost one Cook" (a rare spawn) can spawn right next to him.. and since he is surrounded by ranged mobs remember to clear around him first ^^

I am not one of those that have cosmo, but i found him easy. Follow the above directions but as the road comes to an end stay close to the mountains to avoid the large groups. The confusions is there is more than 1 campfire. He is at the campfire nearest the mountains. If you are a hunter even better, use humanoid tracking then scroll over the icons until you find him. I hope this helps..........

correction: go EAST, not west, through Duskwood, to reach Deadwind pass.

to get to the swamp is pretty easy from STV. follow the road north until it branches. then go EAST and play the avoiding game depending on your level. Once you hit Darkshire Village, continue slightly NE through the mountains, through the pass, to the swamp. To grandmother's house we go.

It's a good idea to pick up Draenethyst Crystals and Little Morsels if you're Horde/Mercy for the Cursed if you're Alliance before doing this quest. Killing Ongeku doesn't take long, but the less you go into that hellhole, the better.

Can anyone tell me how to get to the Swamp of Sorrows for the Horde? It looks like there's a way to get to Deadwind Pass from Stranglethorn, but I can't find it.

Just run around the edge of the camp spamming a Macro to target him if you're having trouble finding him....

To make the Macro (If you don't know how)

Hit Esc, go to Marcos --> Create New --> Name it whatever --> in the box below write "/target Ongeku" and set it to a key you don't need on the hotbar. Just keep spamming it, it'll automatically target him when you get close enough.

((.....read prior posts if you don't know where the camp is.))

Done it...with a 35 lvl NE rogue, died once but from stupid reasons, anyhow, 62.22 are good coords and he's guarded by 3 mobs u can pull him with u're Gun or Bow. i killed a silver mob and him drop chance 100%. BTW for those who don't know how to reac Swamp of Sorrows. You can get from duskwood, goin trough east in deadwind pass.

As far as I know, this quest is very hard to do because you need to go to Swamp of Sorrows, which is pretty much impossible to get to as a member of the horde unless you're level 60. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, but I'm pretty sure this chain dies here.. =(
