Gelkis Alliance

Gain a Friendly reputation with the Gelkis, then speak with Uthek the Wise.
  •
Gelkis Clan Centaur (Friendly)

Description

To beat the centaur, we must use their hatred against them. We will ally with one of the clans and through them, we will learn how to defeat all the clans.

If you choose to ally with the Gelkis then slay their most hated rival, the Magram. After you earn the respect of the Gelkis, meet with the Gelkis shaman Uthek the Wise, on the outskirts of the Gelkis Village, in southwest Desolace.

Before accepting this quest or Magram Alliance (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=1367) it is a good idea to check the rewards for the final quest in the series since you can only complete one series without taking a lot of effort faction grinding after finishing one series.

The rewards for the Gelkis Alliance series are:
-Gelkis Marauder Chain (mail chest: 14 agi, 7 str https://classicdb.ch/?item=6773)
-Uthek's Finger (off-hand: 5 stam, 5 int, 5 spi https://classicdb.ch/?item=6774)

The rewards for the Magram Alliance series are:
-Magram Hunter's Belt (leather belt: 8 agi, 9 stam https://classicdb.ch/?item=6788)
-Ceremonial Centaur Blanket (cloak: 2 int, 9 spi https://classicdb.ch/?item=6789)

Fun facts:
Each kill gives you 20 reputation, while taking 100 reputation from the opposing faction.
Therefore, it will take you 50 kills in order to become Friendly with the prescribed faction.

Every Magram I killed was worth 20 rep with the other clan.&nbsp You can watch your rep by going to character info/reputation and watching the points add up.&nbsp Took me 80 kills to get from 1400 to 3000, and it didn't matter what centaurs I killed.

They are based around 65,80

Funny thing is, they just let you walk up to them and start smacking away.&nbsp Even when your rep goes to unfriendly, it's hard to aggro.

BTW, since you have to kill about 40 magram, get "Centaur Bounty" befor you start. Might as well be collecting centaur ears as you go along.

You need to go to 73,73 on the desolace map.

Kill all the enemies, you get -20 per enemy then and you need&nbsp -1000 reputation so you need to kill 50 of them.

I was lvl 35 got 650 xp.

turn it in at 35,78

This is a faction quest, plain and simple. If you solo, you can expect to have to kill in excess of 210 centaurs to get from neutral to friendly with the opposing centaur faction. Additionally, the drops are at a minimum. You will mostly get some coin and silk. Occasionally, you will get some sweet nectar drops. However, if you are expecting a green or blue drop, you will have to consider yourself lucky if you get one.

Good hunting!

if you have not killed any of the oposing faction of centaur you start at 2000 / 3000 rep with both factions. As you kill one side you lose 100 faction with that side, while gaining 20 faction with the oposing side. You need 3000 rep to get friendly so..... assuming you havn't killed any of either side you will need to kill 50 centaur of your choice to get friendly. 3000-2000 = 1000/20 = 50 pretty simple.

Anyone that it took more than 50 kills must have killed oposing faction first then chose to do this one. that's the only possible reason for it to take more than 50 kills. Pretty simple..

Although you don't get aggro off the centaurs, if you happen to be attacking one when the Magram pack runner walks by, you will get aggro from the pack runner (lvl 35), and his level 37 and 38 pets, as you're fighting the other mob.&nbsp Learned this the hard way.

All in all, not a bad grinding quest.&nbsp Around 200-220 xp for each kill, plus lots of silver and silk cloth drops so can't complain.

These quests, imo, aren't worth the time. They send you far for one quest (travelling to Swamp of Sorrows might not be worth it for you), or involve wasting moeny (getting the dummy) - the whole quest chain isn't possible to solo unless you're at a higher level, like early 40s, and by then, you should be at Tanaris, Feralas, Hinterlands... whatever.

The Gelkis/Magram schism is interesting, but not neccessary if you want to grind in Desolace. It's a cool zone and you don't need to do these quests to grind there.

The grinding isn't any longer than any other quest. Do not worry about keeping track of how many you have killed. Their names start out yellow and as you kill them they get orange and then red. When they're names turn red they aggro you and your quest becomes bold white so you know you're finally done.

I was a lvl 36 (pld), the quest was green for me, and I still got the +20 reputation pnts with the opposing centaur faction on each kill.

Check out my screenshots (when and if they post)! :D

Killing Khan Jehn at 67,80 gives 25 reputation gain with Gelkis and 125 reputation lost with Magram.

He's a lvl 37 mob, with a lvl 35 marauder with him.&nbsp Took both down as a lvl 34 Shadow Priest (with one health potion).

You have to open your rep window, check the 'at war' after clicking the faction you did to get friendly with, and uncheck it for the faction you went hated with. Then, kill the faction you're newly at war with until you reverse your faction.

You could do both quest if you want to invest a ton of time. You can complete the complete string of quest with one of the clans and then put yourself at war with them. Then kill them for the next 24 hours or so until you become friendly with them. Complete waste of time but you could complete both quest.

Anyone know if any parts of this quest series gives Darkspear Troll Rep?&nbsp Only reason I would waste so much time on this one is b/c I want a Raptor mount for my Orc hunter in 5 levels and need more Troll rep.

This is possibly the worst quest ever!&nbsp You only get 650 xp for killing a million of these stupid centaurs.&nbsp So... if you do it, you may as well get Centaur Bounty before (as was mentioned before) because it's going to take killing 100 of them to get the 15 ears you need.&nbsp What a waste of time!

It takes 50 kills to become friendly with a centaur faction. it takes 51 kills to become hostile with a centaur faction.

Hit the combat tab (on the chat screen) after you kill one of the centaurs. It will tell you how much more faction you need to be friendly/hostile and how much that faction that kill gave you.

Is this quest bugged? I'm alliance and got the Brutal Politics quest, but I never found the Mangram guy to talk to become friendly with them. And while looking for something else, came upon the NPC for the Gelkis clan. It had a silver Q-mark and when I talked to him, he wanted me to kill many of the Mangrams. There was no quest to accept, it was just.. understood, I guess.

Anyhoo... wondering what's going on.

I was killing magram centaurs and watching my reputation with them fall, while my reputation for the Gelkis never climbed after a certain point. I noticed that the "at war" boxes for both Gelkis and Magram were checked. After I turned those off, my faction for the Gelkis began to climb again. I don't know if you can get good faction with them if the at war option is turned on. Might not make a difference, but it seemed like it did.

It's not bugged you have to kill enough of the oposing faction (Magram) to gain Friendly status with the Gelkis. Check your current standings by viewing you character profile. I'm not sure if it helps for not but I removed the "at war" checkmark for the Gelkis and then started killing Magram. An easy quest since the Magram won't attack you on sight. There is also an oposite quest in which you could kill Gelkis and gain favor with the Magram. I don't think you can do both since once a faction has become Friendly you no longer can attack them.

It's been a while since anyone posted faction numbers, so I assume messages and possibly numbers have changed in the meantime. When killing Magram, as a level 32 warrior, the faction increase with Gelkis is 20, and the decrease with Magram is 100. I neglected to make a note of the faction you start with, but iirc it was 1500/3000, midway through the neutral bar. So, 15 kills to be kos (unfriendly) to Magram, and 75 kills to be friendly with Gelkis.
