Rod of Channeling (3)
Provided Item:
Reconstructed Tome

Description

This is one of the most interesting texts I have perused in the last few years. The selection here is sparse--mostly books on geography--and I have already read them all. I should hope that Strahad would send me a copy of this tome when he has the chance.

Speaking of him, he sent word to me while you were away. For your task, you must obtain three rods of channeling.

For allowing me to look at this text, I will share a secret: You can find the rods on orcs of the Dragonmaw Clan in the Wetlands.

Dragonmaw Orcs: 51, 45

Head to Hammerfall in the Arathi Highlands and follow the road south into The Wetlands. Follow this road south until you reach the Angerfang Encampment. The closer entrance is the "back door" located at 51, 45. You can always use the main entrance at 42, 40 if you wish though. Im not sure if all Dragonmaw Orcs drop the rods or if its just the spell casters that drop them but that was the case for me. It would make more sense for the spellcasters to have them. The drop rate for me wasnt too bad and at level 30 the mobs go down fairly quickly. If you wish you can fight your way to the back of the camp, 52, 53 where a camp of higher level enemies including an elite mob is located.

While waiting for the spellcasters to respawn, I fought a Dragonmaw Bonewarder and picked up one of the rods. I killed a couple more of the Bonewarders and picked up another rod. So it is not just the spellcasters that drop the rods.

Came to the Second entrance to the canyon (tloc 53,44 face SW), KIlled a couple of Raiders, sneeked left in to 51,49 and use the Succubus to Seduce BoneWarder(select target press seduce button makes them want to speak French) While she seduce him you kill the Skeleton as fast as you can. turn to the Bonewarder and hit him 1st with Curse of Tongues to make him speek Greek with an Gholish Accent, and then kill him.

I kiled 3 Bonewarders and got 3 Rods.

Voila! Use the right tools - make and Warlock Great!

So there are a couple of ways to get into the camp.&nbsp I found the wardons near the back of the camp dropped more and were easier to fight since they weren't surrounded by other mobs.&nbsp The entrance to this part of the camp is 51, 50 and the camp cords are 50, 50.&nbsp There are about 4 guys up there that drop the rods and they espwn quickly so its pretty easy to complete.&nbsp

Also, to the people who haven't had *any* drop, you musn't have gone to deliver the two parts of the book yet and got the quest that asks you to get these.

Go to the graveyard by the T-shaped intersection in the middle of the Wetlands. From there you can go south right up the hillside into the orc camp. I killed about 5-6 Bonewarders to get the 3 rods. The other guys, the few that I killed to get to the warders, did not drop the rods.

(easiest way to Wetlands is run south from Hammerfall. The road runs south through fairly safe territory and right into the aforementioned graveyard in Wetlands)

In my opinion, it's not killing the Dragonmaw Bonewarders that is hard, it's fending off Alliance at the same time. I recommend you bring a friend along or 2 to help you. Don't waste your time killing the Warriors unless it's either defense, or because you have to pass through them to get to the Bonewarders. A fast way up without having to go through 10 Warriors, is to go to the spirit healer, and directly North of that position you will find a passage into the encampment, it's steep.

You can find the Bonewarders at : 51,49 Or in that general area. They tend to hang out by the Dragonmaw tents.

The drop rate is random. I had to kill 3 waves of them before getting all three. Just be patient. Watch out for Alliance, and don't look for trouble. Don't attack unless it's defensive. They will use localdefense. Trust me :<

I knew immediately where the Dragonmaw camp is located since my main is Alliance, so doing this quest on my Blood Elf Warlock was a cinch as far as locating the tribe of orcs.

I got annoyed after I killed ten of them and none of them dropped the rod, and I thought for sure the drop rate was terrible and this was going to be one of those quests where I grind for hours only to find one or two.

Then a Gnome Warlock four levels higher than me appeared in the same area, killed me, and then camped my body for four minutes before getting bored and wandering off so I could use my soulstone to resurrect and continue my search for the rods.

At that point, I decided to check this page and see what the drop rate was on these things, or if I was doing something wrong. It turns out I was. After reading a few of the comments about the casters dropping the channeling rods 100% of the time, I decided to try it out. What did I have to lose? I had killed about 15 by that time and hadn't gotten a single one.

While the drop rate from the casters might not be 100% for everybody, I found that it was for me. I killed three casters and got three channeling rods. I immediately hearthed to avoid running into the Gnome Warlock and flew to Ratchet to complete the chain for my Felhunter.

Good luck everyone!

The drop rate on the channeling rods are about 1 out of every 2 or 3 kills.

The rods only drop off of Dragonmaw Bonewarders and Spellcasters. I had better luck with the Bonewarders as they were the only ones around that I saw going in from the back entrance at 51,45

Shadowwardens do NOT have 100% drop so if your plan is "I'll kill one, loot the last rod, and then take a GY rez"...that's a bad plan. And I didn't see a way to pull one shadowcaster without getting at least two adds, who will kill you if you're lvl 33 or lower. Better to hit the bonewarders--you can easily solo them and drop rate was around 40%.

To find the Angerfang Encampment head south into the Wetlands and take the first main road to the right that is visible on the main map. The encampment is up in the hills on the left. Coords are posted below.

Not too bad just very time consuming. I didn't have the Eastern Kingdom flight paths so this took longer than I would of liked. Lots of running. I soloed the entire quest at 30 using the voidwalker on each section. To get the rods I just ran south from the gravesite before the camp, up the hill and sniped the few Dragonmaw Locks and it was no problem.
