Kurzen's Mystery

Find the 4 tablets and bring their legends back to Brother Nimetz.
The First Troll Legend
The Second Troll Legend
The Third Troll Legend
The Fourth Troll Legend

Description

Colonel Kurzen was once a great, noble man - I must find what caused his fall into depravity! He may be under the sway of troll magic. To confirm this, I must study some of their legends.

There are 4 tablets hidden within the troll ruins of Stranglethorn. I must see what is written on these tablets! Transcribe their markings and bring the transcriptions back to me.

The first tablet is in the Bal'lal Ruins, the second is in the Vile Reef, and the third and fourth are in the Ruins of Zul'Kunda.

This is a small straightfoward guide that doesn't use locs.

---
There are 4 tablets. These are interactable objects on the ground in the troll ruins. You get a gear when you pass over them even through walls so you will be able to tell when you're close.
- #1 is in Bal'lal Ruins which are just east of the basalisks on the coast and south of Zul'Kunda. The tablet is in the southwest corner of thse ruins. The easiest way here is just to clear your way to it as best you can.

- #2 is in the Vile Reef, filled with elite murlocks. Scary huh! Well, it's almost due west of Bal'lal. Swim out until you see a ruin. It'll be on the north edge of the northeast corner on the outside. Swim down from the outer edge and no murlocs will even notice you.

The 3rd & 4th Tablets are in the Ruins of Zul'Kunda in the northwest most corner of STV.

- #3 you can reach by going to the beach on the west side of the ruins and going up a path in the back. It is in the corner behind a wall from that angle. Going in through the front, it is in the SW most corner of Zul'Kunda. There are alot of closely-packed mobs near it so unless you're a powerhouse I'd bring friends.

- #4 is on the north side of Zul'Kunda. It is the hardest part to reach. I did it by clearing my way down the middle of the ruins, where it makes something like a road. You will reach a hairpin turn. Get up onto the divider and clear the mobs at the top of the second path where you're walking back towards the front of the ruins. After those are dead, you can walk along the top of the wall (northward) and get singles if you're careful. Walk to the end of this wall towards a pool and the 4th tablet is right at the corner of the wall and this pool.

I hope that helps people who don't like to use locs.

You can solo all of these if you're careful. I did it on my lvl 37 warrior.

The first two are easily done. With some thought you won't have any trouble at all.

The third one is the hardest to solo in my opinion. There are a lot of closely packed mobs around it (it's at the soutwest corner of the Zul'Kunda ruins, btw). Approaching from the south I was able to clear a path to the legend with some delicate pulls. Just take your time and don't be afraid to run off if you aggro too many mobs.

#4 can be gotten pretty easily if you know where to sneak. As you go into the Zul'kunda ruins from the east, go up the big hill to the right of the main entrance. Follow that hill north until it gets close enough to let you jump onto (not over) the outer wall. Hop on that wall and follow it all the way north. Then follow the wall west to the upper level of the waterfall. To your left you should see the legend. Pull the mobs closest to it carefull and you'll get it no problem.

These aren't drops, lest there be confusion.&nbsp There are big stone tablets leaning up against the walls in the ruins, that you can interact with.&nbsp You right-click on 'em, and it gives you a loot box, and voila! :)

Soloed with a 33 Hunter. WooHoo! People who say this is tedious are wrong. It's a challenge and fun. The only really tricky tablets were the two in Zul'Kunda:

For all you Cosmos-haters (like me!):

One of tablets is at the southwest corner of Zul'Kunda. At this corner there is a fort, then just north of that is another fort. It is in this fort at its northwest corner where you find the tablet. You can take the mobs 1 or 2 at a time if you're patient and keep your eyes open.

The second one is tougher. You can approach the east entrance to Zul'Kunda, but don't go inside. Instead, climb up the hills and walk north along the wall until you reach the steep slopes. From here, you should be able to see a small water fall inside the ruin.

Get close to the wall and you will aggro 1-2 mobs&nbsp through the wall who will somehow chase you onto the hills. Kill them (of course). Then, you can run up the steep slope near the wall and if you time it right, jump onto the wall. From there you can walk west along a very narrow ledge over the water to the waterfall (as stated above - good post). The tablet is right next to the waterfall guarded by several mobs.

If you have a pet :), send them into the mobs and loot the tablet at your liesure.

Track Humanoids, Eagle Eye, and Feign Death were awesome for this mission.

i had a horrific time with this quest no thanks in part to the terrible directions listed on the preveious posts for the third tablet.

-- Finding 1st and 2nd are straightforward enough.

-- For the 3rd, it took me forever to find because using the coordiantes 22,11 and 22,12 is useless because they are just WAYYYYYYYY too broad and covers too much area to help. The easiest way to find the tablet is to climb the ridges on the southwestern part of the ruins (22,14), which leads to a small plateau with 3 trolls, then walk up a dirt road. It will rise quickly and lead you into a square walled encampment similar to the 1st tablet. Inside is the 3rd tablet.

-- For the 4th, just follow the wall trick instructions above.

This quest is a nightmare. AVOID if you havent started it yet.

Hope this saves someone the hour or two i wasted on this POS quest.

Coords from somebody above. Make it better story. :)
1st: 29,19 -> in Bal'lal Ruins
From east side, you can see tablet in the NW corner of the building.
You pull only mobs which is in you way. The one mob which is a bit near stone, you can mind soothe him.
First loot.

2nd:&nbsp 25,23 -> Vile Reef, inside water. Swim until you see blue glowish stone below. Swim a bit more north, look behind the wall, outside the temple. You see tablet against the north wall. Swim carefully near tablet, so elite mobs don't aggro. Easy second loot.

3rd:&nbsp 22,13 -> First part in Ruins of Zul'Kunda. Starts from west side/coast. Walk with care up the hill, turn immediately to left to west wall. You kill first mobs. Now walk a bit further against the wall (the stone is behind the wall). You shall cause first aggro. Walk now a bit back so you can see both mobs. Kill them. Now clean the area a bit and you can loot third loot.

4th:&nbsp 24,8 -> You need here more trick. Leave the Ruins, and starts now from east side of same Ruins place (you walk around). Go climb up the hills you see at right side, starting near the entrance. Go to the fartest place where you can jump on the wall. Now walk more to right/north until you stick against another wall. You see a small path in the wall. Walk carefully to west. Go to the waterfall part you see there. Walk over the waterfall-wall. You see the table at other side. You must pull two mobs before you can loot. 4th loot!

Now you have all stones. Your choice: fight, walk back to small wall path, or heartstone to near place (Stormwind of Booty Bay). I can fight through the many mobs, but it's not easy. Remember they can drop a bit mageweave cloth.

Okay, since not everyone has the coordinate add-on, here's where the 3rd tablet is located. When you are facing the ruins FROM THE BEACH, there is a entry arch guarded by 2 trolls. To the right a little bit (it's not next to the arch), there is a path that you can go up. Take this path up, or climb up anywhere at this point. There will be a small plateau with 3 trolls that you have to get rid of. Take the path up from there, there's one to kill at the top of the path. There's also one to the left once you get up there. He's outside a short wall. The third tablet is on the inside part of this wall. There are a couple casters and hunters to get rid of, and it is in the corner.

This is like the south-west part of the main compound. If you enter through the archway and up the path, you can kill along that initial hall. When you get to the corner, where it turns left, the 3rd tablet is on the OTHER side of the wall where the corner is located.

Hope that helps.

The basic idea of this quest is simple: Go to various ruins filled with baddies and interact with a stone tabled in each - usually surrounded by several mobs at once. Good things to have: Superior Healing Potion, Elixir of Water Breathing (superior or lesser- any will do).

1st Tablet - From Nessingwary's Expidition camp, head Southwest towards Kal'ai ruins.&nbsp Bypass this on the right side by climbing over a few foothills. Continue going Southwest until you find Bal'lal Ruins. Inside the Ruins there is a campfire surrounded by 9-10 mobs. And in there is the stone tablet you have to interact with. Kill the mobs (expect to fight 2 at once) until they are dead and then click the tablet. This is pretty much waht you will be doing for the all the rest of the tablets you have to interact with.

2nd Tablet - After you've gotten the first tablet, go immediately southwest from Bal'lal Ruins and into the sea. This one is a pain because the tablet is in ruins that are underwater - about midway between the island and the shoreline of the mainland. If you are a melee - that underwater breathing potion would come in handy here since the ruins are very deep. Once you get to the location, look down and see the ruins beneath you. They are inhabited by level 35-37 elite Murlocks. They are relatively close to the tablet so you may want to bring a friend for this. If you have a pet though, just send it in to draw aggro while you get to the tablet.

3rd Tablet - Go back to the Bal'lal Ruins and go past it on the north side via a narrow grassy path. At the first opportunity head north and up a plateau. You will see Raptors here. Head west until you find the Zal'kunda Ruins. Do not enter the ruins, but climb the rocky hills along its southern side and head west (staying on the hills). As you head west you will pass 2 enclosures of ruins on the right. The 3rd and last ruin enclosure you come to is where the 3rd tablet is - at the backside. Kill the mobs and get the tablet.

4th Tablet- This is the hardest of all them because the mobs are 1-2 levels higher and the tablet is located at the top of the main Ruins. From 3rd tablet location, look for the north wall and follow it east. If you're below 40, expect to fight along the way. When you get to the end of the wall turn left and follow the paved road back west again - this time into the main ruins. Fight your way to the nearby ramp on the northside of the road. Climb the ramp and fight your way up. The tablet is surrounded again by many mobs. Kill them and you got the tablet..

3rd is the hardest by far as a solo, easy to clear the area around the stone, but the 3 guarding it (mystic lvl35+ and 2 hunters lv35+) are a pain as they agro together, Also clear outside the walls of the compound, once you agro the group of 3, any patrollers outside fire in *through* the walls, nasty.

I've done this as a sham/warr/hunt and lvl36 priest. This quest is excellent for tailors (tons of silk) and players wanting to farm xp without feeling like grinders. Just a few things I wanted to add in response:
  1. [29,19] On pvp servers the 1st Legend can be hardest to solo. There are 4 horde quests that take place within sight of the ruins and at peak times I've seen 8+ 35-40 players there. The other Legends can be as bad, but the density of mobs makes it far more dangerous for anyone wanting to mess with you around the others.
  2. [25, 23] The 2nd Legend is no longer difficult. Pre-2.3 the murloc's guarding it were elites with an infamous "Patroller" who 3 shotted anyone with crappy luck. You don't go in there at all if you've read the notes above.
  3. [22, 13] Anyone with CC or a decent survivability ratio (Warrs/Shams/Pallies in particular) can solo the 3rd. Priests can solo this without any trouble even in lower greens. The 3 guards on the third tablet are a random combination (possibly changed in a late patch from the 1 caster/2 melee I remember) but MC\Sap\Sheep\Trap is applicable to all. In fact, a word; CC away one of the casters first no matter what the combo. Their heals are 500+ and difficult to interrupt in a 3 on 1 especially if there are multiple casters. There is a patroller who wonders in there, more often than not a Scout.
  4. [24, 8] The 4th Legend is on the highest plateu of the temple (East from the inner road). People don't always get that from the coords. The 36-37 trolls have a pretty good loot table for humanoids, low-ish dps, great xp and respawn so quick you never run out. Good farming local if you've got no where special to be pre-40.

For the second one its underwater east of the big Vile Reef island.&nbsp Its NOT between that island and the nearby peninsula.&nbsp Looking around underwater you will see a perimeter wall with a purplish glowing area with 35ish murlocs in the area.&nbsp Thats not it, don't agg the murlocs trying to find out.&nbsp Been there, done that.&nbsp Its actually OUTSIDE THE PERIMETER WALL, kind of leaning against it and not distinctive.&nbsp I found it by - first by using Elixir of Water Breathing - going to the bottom and mousing around until I hit it.&nbsp Then no problem getting close and clicking it, the murlocs stay INSIDE the wall and I didn't agg a single one.&nbsp

The wall indeed won't go further then the pool, but it's still quite safe to that part. Especially with stealth.

But I'd say it's better to use the front entrance now, fewest mobs to kill. Almost all singles, but you have to be wary of patrols, I just got killed by one. Make that twice. When you try to go up the ramp there's a reasonably fast troll patrol, usually a berserker. It will kill you quite fast.

Anyway, use the main entrance, go all the way down to where you have a ramp up to your right (Where also the boss resides on the platform). You'll have to be wary for the doubletroll patrol coming from the beach entrance, and there's a berserker patrol coming down the ramp. Everything is single pullable. The table is visible when you reach the top of the ramp.

I just did this quest with my lvl 37 draenei shadowpriest. The first and second tablets are easy as hell. Just a few mobs to take care of, and in the second you don't have to fight at all.

At the third tablet there were lvl 33-35 mobs guarding, I used mind control to great success, mind control a caster and let him be beat to death, then taking on 2 melee mobs at a time is not hard.

The fourth tablet is more complicated. I brought a 33 shammy from my guild and we actually wiped once because adds ran up from the lower level. Anyways, the 37 mobs were no prob 2 at a time, just Vampiric Embrace, shield and Facemelt ;)

You do have to fight to get the fourth tablet, it is guarded by 4-5 mobs.

This quest is actually soloable but as a under geared priest I found it faster to get help :) good luck, and stuff ^^
