Skullsplitter Tusk (18)

Description

It's expensive and hard to kill enough tigers to support the export of tiger fangs to the islands in the South Seas. Luckily, we've developed a technique that allows us to take mundane horn-like objects and turn them into undetectable forgeries.

The closest match we've found, amazingly, are the tusks of the Skullsplitter trolls.

Hey, before you say anything, what the buyer doesn't know doesn't hurt them, am I right? Bring me a large number of them so we can get to work on the monthly shipment!

Worst.&nbsp Drop.&nbsp Rate.&nbsp Ever.

Not as frustrating as trying to collect things like ears and heads that rarely drop, which I'm pretty sure every mob one kills possesses, but GHEY nonetheless.

(Yeah, I know they all have tusks, but one can picture needing a certain "quality" of tusk to count as a quest item.)

(late edit below...)

All sarcasm aside...

I, too, found that the "Ruins of Zul'Mamwe" area was the best drop rate.&nbsp The drop rate is actually pretty darn good IF you concentrate on the WARRIORS, MYSTICS, and WITCH DOCTORS *inside* the gate and/or very near the "main" north-eastish gate.

The drop rate is *miserable* for HUNTERS, SCOUTS, and AXE THROWERS.

What sucks about the way the mobs spawn in this particular area is that, unlike other areas, if you kill, say, a WARRIOR at a given spawn point, at respawn, it may very well pop up as something else seemingly random (i.e. a HUNTER).&nbsp So, after a short time of picking out all the warriors, mystics, and witch doctors - leaving others alone - I found them to get rarer and rarer (sheer probability dictates this).&nbsp Your best situation is to be doing this quest while others are grinding in the area on the mobs with crap drops.&nbsp If you can find some moron killing hunters and such, you'll benefit.&nbsp (Or be a prick in a PUG doing this quest...try to make sure your mob when it's your turn in Group Loot is always one of the good ones...lol).

Concentrating on those particular mob types yielded a drop rate of 80%.

Obviously, lower level toons will not have the option of picking and choosing - especially with all of the patrols.&nbsp I was L47 when I did this (hey, still full XP/rep), so aggro was minimal.

I found them at the Ruins of Zul'Mamwe and loved the quest, lvl 42 was rested got 450~ from each of them and got an crazy amount of xp. The kind of low drop rate really didnt do anything at all

Just combine it with the Troll Witchery quest, where you need to get 4 troll fetishes. That way you get them both in a single grind. And the droprate on the fetishes is even lower then the horns!

However! Watch out for the patrols in the area, they usually are in groups of 3 or 4, and always attack at the worst moment!

I hung around between Ziata'Jai and Balia'Mah and found the drops evenly distributed amongst the warriors, mystics, and axe-throwers. I underestimated the respawn time; strolled into an "empty" temple with my pet. One guy respawned so close, he should have asked me to dinner and a movie.

You can get this at 37.

I wanted it to do alongside Troll Witchery but was not offered it at 36. I came back after dinging and got it.

This quest can also be done in conjunction with [42] Split bone necklace. At ruins of zal'mamwe. Rough coords around 46,43.
Drop rate isnt that good but ok xp around 250xp per kill normal 100% for 41 rogue

The reason this quest isn't showing up for some of you is that it's actually part of a chain you need to complete "Bloodscalp Ears" before you can receive "Skullsplitter Tusks."&nbsp Happy hunting!

If you like grinding, this is the quest for you. Over an hour and I'm barely halfway done. '

at lvl 39 im getting 250 exp per kill, which aint too bad.

Good grind if you like it.

Bad quest if you're impatient.

The droprate wasn't too bad if you stick to the higher level mobs.&nbsp I even got a nice blue ring (assault ring? Something like that).&nbsp Some of them drop wildvine, which gets good money on the AH.&nbsp I was getting around 450 xp rested as a 43 pally.&nbsp Watch the patrols and stay away from the camps if you are solo.&nbsp There are plenty of loners that you can pick off at your leisure.

Not sure where the other Comments refer to, but I received all my skullsplitter tusks at Ziata jai Ruins, just off the road between Booty Bay and Duskwood.

Look out for for the watch parties that travel out every so often to parol the nearby area.&nbsp There are 2 parties with 3 orcs in each party.

Solo'd this as a level 40 Hunter, without dying, though the drop rate is poor...took hours.

I just finished the quest as a 42 mage. I tried it back when i was 39 but the drop % was too low and frustrating. When i went back at 42 i could AOE groups of up to 5 and get at lest 2 tusks out of that. I started killing them at 42,36 which is the Ziata'Jai Ruins. After I cleared that I headed N,E up towars Mosh'Ogg Ogre Mound.

On the east side of the main road in Stranglethorn, there is a ruins called ziata'jal ruins. There are trolls there and them trolls drop what you need, the drop rate isn't too good, but there are quests that have worse, but better.

I got a lot of XP while doing this quest...kinda helped pay for the time invested.&nbsp As a "well rested" 38-39 pally I gained about 1/3 of a lvl just killing.

Agreed...Balia'mah seemed best.&nbsp Lots of guys wandering that you can pick off if you don't want to go inside, watch out for the patrols.

I completed this quest as a lvl 40 warlock. Nice for grinding for a little while. The drop rate is pretty good, probably a little on the low side, but I thought it was fine. The only problems I had was when the patrol of 3 Skullsplitter's by the ruins would walk into me while I was fighting off a mob.

I'm at level 38, but the only quests Kebok has for me are Bloodscalp Ears and Hostile Takeover. My friend did this quest at level 37, but he doesn't remember how he got it.

The quest doesn't seem to be part of a chain, so why can't I get it?

These are very hard to come by, which makes me hate this quest. I got around 11 or 12 after 2 hours of killing. For a lvl 41 mage, this is tough because of the warrior's annoying shield bash, which they use every other fireball. My advice: Be ready for a very long and troublesome farming session.

Drop rate is good, and ain't so hard to kill them as a druid because u can either go catform and prowl -> ravage or spellcast on the mystics.

Only annoying thing: Fcking horde coming every single minute around and ganking me..

As a level 39 Hunter at the moment, I did the quest itself with out a problem... but there was this one level 60 alliance rogue that would NOT leave me the eff alone. Other then random gankers, it was pretty easy (NOTE: watch your pulls though, just in case).

Drops were very rare for me, killed many for about 45 mins, and have only gotten 11 so far. Warriors are easy to kill, as are the axe throwers, and they have high drops.
