Crude Flint (9)

Description

The Mosshides are cutting the trees of the Wetlands, using the trees' flesh to warm themselves with fire. I will suffer this pain no longer!

Rid the Mosshides of their crude flints, the tools they use to make fire. The flints are borne by all Mosshides except the smaller Mosshide gnolls and Mosshide mongrels.

Confirmed - 42,30 to 32, 30 has easy pulls. Many singles around the camps in this area but still a poor drop rate.

The Fenrunners drop significantly higher than anything I saw. I got my 9 flint off of 12 or 13 kills. I found lots of them running around by themself in the northernmost part of Mosshide Fen, but there are probably easier places to find them.

Hey if your low level and you run into camps, if you head to the west a bit you'll find single ones, easier to kill K.

Before doing this quest, check the rewards for the follow up. If you dont need any of it, abandon this one asap. It is a waste of time.

There are few mobs who can be pulled alone or in pairs. Though each mob is easy the camps of 4-6 are impossible at quest's level, and you will find yourself using more time tracking down suitable targets and corpse running than killing, and therefore wasting potential experience and leveling slower.

If you are to do this anyway (again, don't) be warned that the ones you can solo will run at ~10% hp and possibly drag a whole camp after you.

The Mob Southwest of ironbeards tomb is small enough to take on. for me 90% of them had a crude flint on them so just keep on fighting those guys and you should be done in about 5mins-10mins.

It's hard as hell to pull these one by one when soloing as a hunter. Thanks to all those above for the coords on these camps, makes it easier to navigate and find them.

Someone wrote fenrunners. Nah, they are no good. Killed around 30 and only 3 drops.

Brute and trappers drop alot more and there are alot around 45.35. You will find more around there if you just look a bit around!

Did this quest with my lvl 30 pally. Was pretty easy. Got some good drops. When you get to mosshide Fen, kill all the singles around the outside of the camp first, if you are soloing. You try to get one and you get all the ones in the camp. Suggest working your way into to the camp cause when they run from you they bring everything back with them. Drop rate is actually pretty good. At least for me it was.

I agree with killing Fenrunners for the flints. I've had a drop rate of about 90%, around 28, 35.

Also, it's a nice place, because these mobs attempt to run away at about 50% health, and they're fairly spread apart in this area.

I found that they have a long respawn rate. I ran through and killed everything and sat waiting with only 2 flints. Once they finally did respawn the drop rate was much better. I guess it really depends on luck.

1. The quest location area is on the road out of Menethil Harbour. If you have co-ordinates, there are Mosshide camps all along the left-hand side of the road
(going away from Menethil) in the range approx 40,xx to 54,xx roughly. You can't really miss them.
2. The level to be at if you are a hunter like me is about 26/27 for comfortable grinding although I'm sure there are some wizz kids out there who could do it at lower levels.
3. The Crude Flints (in my experience) do not drop very often. I have found that (typically) the loner Mosshides away from the camps do not tend to drop the item, whereas Mosshides pulled out of camps drop 1 out of 2, 1 out of 3.
4. Tactics: Be patient. You can kill all the outlying Mosshides which is an easier option but I don't think you will get many Flints. However, if you pull one Mosshide out of the centre of a camp, you are sure to pull others as well anything up to 3. Be especially careful of the Mosshide Brutes who carry a nasty looking wooden mallet. They always come at you mob-handed and you will most probably get wiped.

So what is tghe answer? Try and pick off mobs that are near the camp centre but not very near other compatriots if you see what I mean. I did this patiently over several visits to the site and eventually got all nine.

If you go at a popular time you can be fairly certain of meeting other players doing the same as you - team up! You can thereby clear camps much easier!

This is one of the most annyoing quests ever! Sida's bag wasn't so bad compared to this one. The drop rates were low and there weren't too many lvl 22/23 mosshides by themselves. Way too many camps and I keep accidentally aggroing all of them. If lower lvl, best to do it with someone.

The camps are all over the swamp, just be aware of the crocs. Look for the tents and if you're a hunter, use the track humanoids ability.

This quest was indeed one of the worse I've done. I didn't think there were more Gnolls than Fenrunners and Mistweavers dropping these, so I just camped them (later discovered Brutes and Trappers). Indeed they drop about 1 in 5-6, so be prepared for tone of grinding. Took me about an hour at lvl 30, and no xp for the mobs either ^.^ The nest one from Rethiel is almost as bad!

Did this one at lvl 29 ..

Found 4 small camps at 45:34 and took every single gnoll out .. At the end after 15-18 mins i had 9 Crude flint =)

Drop rates are pretty random .. So just slay it all :)

Even as a level 29 human mage, these creeps managed to kill me twice because I sometimes had 4 or 5 running after me. The rest was pretty boring, but luckily the drop rate was 1 out of 3 or so, and as long as I attacked fenrunners and trappers outside of bigger groups, I could handle them nicely and did finish this one rather quickly. At coordinates 45,34 there are some groups that should do the trick.

Be SURE you're killing the ones around level 22/23 like the fenrunners amd trappers north of where you pick up the quest. The drop rate is MUCH better for them. I was trying to collect off the higher lvl ones further west (lvls 24-26) and the drop rate was awful (like 1 in 30 kills). Hope this helps

The only bad thing about this quest was the droprate.
Fortunately, if you're well rested and gain double the exp, this quest alone will probably get you a level.

There's a small Hill with 2 or 3 fenrunners on it, and there's a camp where 2 or 3 hang around far enough out to attack and not aggro the others, so I just went back and forth between the two.

I soloed this with my 22 mage and gained a level midway. It might help to do this quest with somebody, but that's just another 9 flint drops you'll have to grab.

I suggest attacking Fenrunners and Fenrunners only.
Best of luck :)
