Woodpaw Gnoll Mane (10)

Description

The gnolls... they are more than a nuisance. They are a constant threat to the existence of this very camp! It is irrelevant whether they are indigenous to Feralas or not; if we do not strengthen our resolve against them, we will find ourselves driven out of the entire region.

The gnoll attacks against the camp have become more fevered as of late. We need your aid in thinning their numbers; bring to me ten of their manes, and I will reward you handsomely for your effort.

Here are my findings on this quest at level 44:

Killing location:
Lower Wilds / Woodpaw Hills
Around 76,54

Target:
Woodpaw Trapper (lvl 41-42)
Woodpaw Brute (lvl 41-42)
Woodpaw Mongrel (lvl 40-41)

Drop rate:
Woodpaw Trapper: 64% (11 kills for 7 manes)
Woodpaw Brute: 25% (8 kills for 2 manes)
Woodpaw Mongrel: 13% (8 kills for 1 mane)

Rewards:
~204 XP per kill, 2550 XP Quest Reward, 150 Thunder Bluff Reputation and 45 Silver - at 75,42.

Comments:
Simply roam around the given location and keep killing the Woodpaws until you have all the needed manes. Also, as you can see the Trappers have the highest droprate and the Mongrels the lowest, thus you should try to avoid fighting Mongrols - fairly easy.

These are SW of the sity, not too far away at all. Maybe a 50% drop rate.

I'll just like to add that any woodpaw will do, they all drop the manes needed for the quest. Killing the level 40 to 42 will just make it easier for yourself.

So, Mongrels, Trappers, Brutes, Reavers and Mystics&nbsp will all do.

Don't give up, I got my first mane on the 15th kill, so the drop rate -is- low!

I'm a level 41 hunter and I was able to get this quest done in about 10-15 minutes or less...

First of all, the gnolls are located in the Woodpaw Hills which is located south of Camp Mojache. All the gnolls there will the drop the mane that you need for the quest.

There were only a few gnolls I killed where I didn't recieve the mane, but the other ones I was able to loot it. I looted my first one after my first kill.

I get a mane after mane until I reached 6 manes, after that, it took me a little longer to loot the last 4 manes, say every 3 to 4 kills I would get another mane.

I only killed 3 types of gnolls (Brute, Trapper, Mongrel) for the mane and didn't need to go to far in the hills. I got the most manes from the mongrel, half as many from the trapper, and little more from the brute.

Hope this helps!

This quest chain is the pre-requisite for Stinglasher and Zukk'ash Infestation. Note that the Stinglasher quest can NOT be accepted if you have Tabetha's Task in your quest log (either deliver the quest first or abandon it).

loc: 69,50
drop rate: v.good. Done the quest in 20mins. The best drop rate have brutes. All in all - those enemies I found extremly easy (rogue 43lev). If they had better random drops, they would be my favourite mob )

Drop rate is about 20%.
I suggest you should use the area just south-south-west of Camp Mojache ( 69,54). This quest is easy for a lvl 40 so no need for a group.
Nice for grinding too.
Enjoy your questing!

Katnapper, Tauren Moonkin lvl 40 on Draenor.

Edit : After the 2nd drop of the mane, the drop rate went down pretty big.But the xp and drops i get are wonderfull!

I found most of my manes on the Mongrels north of Mojache. There are a grp of them west of the lake with the waterfall. You can kill others but i kill mostly mongrels unless they are in grp.

Reavers have the highest droprate for manes, I'm sure of it. Almost found 1 per 2 Reavers on both my rogue and warlock. Brutes and the rest are much less. EZ quest.

Just solo'd this one with a 41 undead warlock.

Killed 25 gnolls before I got all 10 quest items, but sometimes I killed two at once, so it didn't take long.

Found an Ancient Cloak of the Wolf, and 2550XP when handing then quest in :)

Doing this on a 40 Holy specced Priest. kills are easy, go through three of four of them before I have to mana up.. but I can't take on the camps or I suddenly remember I'm squishy, so it's taking a long ass time. Lost count of how many i've killed and I've only got 4 so far.. Priests! Do yourself a favour, whine at your guildies to come slaughter them for you. at least so you can actually get to the damn reavers

Actually I found that the drop rate is better at approx. 73, 36. Also you can pick them off one by one rather than in group of 3s.

Worst drop rate ever in my experience. Some of you were lucky at getting 50% or better, I'd estimate I killed 70 gnolls to complete this quest. I was following James Leveling guide, and they were all green to me too, with no rest xp, hope I get better luck on my future quests because this one took forever.

Go west of the river north of town. The woodpaw are on the west of that river. (72,45)

Level 40-42 mobs
About 30% droprate

Go across the river and climb up the ramp to do The ogres of Feralas.
Don't foget to dig up the blue things on the ground with orwin's shovel while your killing the ogres for the quest Gordunni Cobalt

Go to 71,54 for the next quest, Alpha Strike Note: This is timed quest!
