Alpha Strike

Kill 5 Woodpaw Alphas and return to Hadoken Swiftstrider within one hour.
  •
Woodpaw Alpha slain (5)

Description

The plan is for various leaders of the gnolls - Alphas as they call themselves - to be taken down within rapid succession. If we're able to execute this sort of swift and precise devastation against them, it would cause chaos in their ranks. Perhaps it would also drive a message through their thick flea-bitten heads that we can and will destroy them!

I want you to be the messenger of my will; eliminate five of their Alphas within one hour for this to work <name>, or we'll remain at this impasse!

Camp locations are:
(74,56)
(74,54)
(73,56)
(72,56)
(71,56)

Alpha respawns are pretty fast. It's easily doable in an hour

Remember to turn the quest back in within the hour. Logging out will not stop the timer, resulting in a [Failed]. If this happens, you will need to abandon the quest and take it again from the quest giver.

lvl 42 priest solo'd.&nbsp the clue is to use the camps on or about 74,53 (on the southwest tip of wildwind lake, south across the path from camp mojache).&nbsp there you can pull just the alpha woodpaws without pulling other mobs (which are mongrels, brutes, trappers, and mystics).&nbsp you may have to kill extraneous woodpaws that are wandering around between the camp sites because they get in the way.&nbsp but it is easy to solo in the time the quest allows...THIS IS A TIMED QUEST, which is why everyone is posting the length of time it took him to complete it. avoid the woodpaw camps at 68,53 (or west of the isolated lake)...it is further from the quest giver and you will aggro additional mobs ("bodyguards") in those camps. the first location is by far much easier. hope this helps!

The coords given above did not help me. I found 4-5 alphas at 66.0, 53.3. This is a plateau above the rest of the camps, in the westernmost mountainside [of the gnoll section] .

Avoid the Woodpaw Mongrels. They will cast a debuff called Contagion Rot on you. This decreases melee swing speed and lengthens casting time. No fun if you're clearing the camps with these alphas in them.

The first piece of this was easy <War on the Woodpaw>, but I needed to grab a friend for this one...

I was able to complete this in 20 minutes altogether (including travel time, killing them, and looking for the alphas).

The alphas are in the same location as the first quest, (Woodpaw Hills, located south of Camp Mojache). There are tents and little campgrounds scattered around the place, and some of them have an alpha with about 2-4 gnolls with it...

The quest is a little difficult since you have to go some ways in the hills to find them and there are many gnolls everywhere, so it takes some time just getting to an alpha...

But because I'm a hunter, I was able to track down where the alphas were so me and my friend could go get the alpha.

Hope this helps!

Warning this is a timed quest!

Had only 20min until I needed to get ready for work, when I accepted this quest, what the heck lets try it.&nbsp Im a level 43 War, I was thinking my odds of completing the quest were slim.&nbsp Located the first Alpha, cleared a spot to come in from behind, and let an arrow fly:

1st Alpha ~ pulled the Alpha and a Reaver, killed them both.
2nd Alpha ~ pulled the Alpha, Reaver, and two Mystics, not good, kill the Alpha before they killed me, 2 down!
3-5 ~ Skill or luck, not sure, pulled just the Alpha, cheer, joy!

Finished in only 19min, that was a very good day!

Usually you can find Alphas with one Reaver and one Mystic. Personally I just pulled all three and killed the Alpha. I only took about 1000 damage before the Alpha dropped, and was then able to simply outrun the other two's aggro. Took me under ten minutes on the timer using the coords above.

Did it in 10 Minutes. Head to the woodpaw den area. The Alphas spawn in camps with a Mystic and one other, solo the Alpha and run...wash,rinse,repeat. They'res enough camps that you won't have to wait around for spawns.

did it fairly fast... the alphas respawn very quickly.&nbsp i presume there are 4 alphas in different places.&nbsp 3 can be carefully pulled solo, but the one will always have a mystic body guard.&nbsp Just make sure you pull from the right place, and make sure theyre wandering away from their pack before you land a strike (even though they take half a step away from his body guards, it really counts, trust me).&nbsp You melee people just throw at them or approach them cautiously.&nbsp

i did this late on purpose as a 47 warrior so it would be easy..

completed in about 17 mins. never did i pull the whole camp but i guess that is because of the smaller aggro range..

i would use gun to try and pull alpha..got him solo one time, but had no problems when 2 or 3 also attacked

Soloed this just now as a 43/44 undead shadowpriest (got level'd while fighting alphas). Didn't have to use potions or anything, just be careful with adds and use common sense when dealing with groups. Shadow Word: Pain one of a group, run out of range until the rest of the group run back and solo the DoT'd one in peace.

Turned it in just as the timer ticked down to 40mins left, btw.

only hard part is at in one of the camps the spawning is buged so thers an alpha, brute and a mystic in the same spot. go for the alpha and back away so that when the alpha is dead its not long run to freedom. this costs a healingpotion since there 3 but thats no biggie.

...as a lvl 42 tauren shammy. Died three times when I tried to pull mobs from around alphas. The alpha plus two came after me. If you're a shammy, use an earthbind before you retreat back to do some stand-off damage. Have lots of mana and healing pots and some scrolls if you can. Kill off as much as you think you can before going after alphas so you have a place to retreat for healing between alphas. They will respawn if you take too long. Alphas are lvl 44 and 43.

Turned in quest with about 10 minutes left. Down by the small solo lake (not attached to anything else) south and a little west of the Camp M lake. gl.

Completed at level 45 with 30 minutes to spare. Can go much quicker but I had to work around other people.

The bugged camp I'll explain further down. Normal camps can be done thusly:

Skills:

Sneak
Distract
Range attack

Poisons:

Crippling
Wound (in case you get a mystic add, it's a pita if the Alpha gets healed Just as he is to die)

Sneak up on the camp, target the alpha, distract the others, back up a tad, pull with your range, kill, vanish if you got too many adds to handle.

For the bugged camp you have Alpha, mystic and reaver stacked and a mystic solo. My choice was to distract the lone mystic, sap the stacked mystic and pull the two melee down the hill a tad. Again, watch where you put your rear. Killed Alpha, looted and vanished.

Go back to Camp M and get your 2700 xp and the next stage of the quest.

I was able to solo this at lvl 41 (warlock). I took my time and still ended up with 35 minutes left on the clock. All you have to do is wait for the perfect pull on the alpha and he'll come by himself. Only on the first and second camp did I get a 2-pull, but on the other camps I always got the alpha by himself.
