Hatecrest Naga Scale (10)

Description

The best course of action at this point is to assume that, regardless of what the naga are up to, they will eventually move to secure the island for their own. We need to take aggressive steps to counter that threat before it is too late.

Bring me ten Hatecrest Scales that are in good condition; it should be obvious to you how to acquire them. You'll cut your teeth on the naga for the first time, and we'll have a weakened naga presence on Sardor Isle - both are prospects that play to our advantage.

I had fulfilled the quest requirements and was on my mount to turn the quest in. a random naga attacked me and knocked me off my horse.&nbsp naturally pissed [pally mounts cost so much mana], i proceeded to kick the crap out of her.

When i looted her hideous corpse, lo and behold!&nbsp https://classicdb.ch/item=13823 dropped!

I sold it for 130G on the AH.

I agree they are much higher % drop rate on south island, but not perhaps 90%

Edit: I was lvl 45, so that could have impacted my results

I soloed this at 45 NE Druid (Balance). I had rest exp saved up and so I got 390-475xp per kill. I chose to go after the lvl 41-43 nagas on the small island.

Took me 38 kills to get the 10 scales.

I tried the gazebo first with 2 drops after 9 kills.

Then I moved onto the shoreline by feathermoon stronghold. (33,50) 1 drop in 6 kills.

Then I went over to the ruins (28,51). 3 drops in 16 kills.

Last I decided to try the southern shoreline (30,57) where I got 4 drops in 7 kills.

My strategy: roots, faerie fire, moonfire, re-root, starfire, wrath over and over until dead.

Since the 2.0 patch I started doing lowbie quests for Darnassus rep. I'm lv60 and I'm doing that quest.

The drop rate is LOW, but at least I got chicken :)

Drop rates differ for different conditions.. all I know is on moonrunner, the drop rate is zero for the&nbsp ones near the quest giver (or at least very small).

10 for 10 drops as soon as I went to the isle of dread

As a 43 priest non-shadow, I made my way down through the gazebo but the drop ratio was sickening (and these naga only drop clam meat, it seems).

Swam across to the Isle and had no problems getting my scales. Interesting side note: The Sirens (i think) are terribly annoying creatures for a spell caster. If I had a spell resisted, it was garunteed a sleep coming my way. This almost cost me my life.

I'm a level 43 Shadow Priest and this quest was easy. I killed the warriors and screamers around the Ruins of Solarsal and the drop rate was pretty good.&nbsp It took me about 30 minutes all total.

As a level 42 (fire) mage it took me maybe 20 minutes or so. The drop rate isn't terrible, but it's somewhere between 30%-45%.

Casters: watch out for the screamers. They silence for about 10seconds and rarely drop the scale. Plus they heal by small increments. More trouble than they're worth.

I literally did this quest in 10 min dropped off most every naga I killed. I went after warriors and Sirens mainly but really as long as it was lvl 42 plus seem to drop very easily, all at nearby ruins.

I did the quest in the zone around 26.64.

These were my drop rates (Gathered by Mob Health addon)

Hatecrest Naga Scale
Dropped by 4 mobs:
  • Hatecrest Screamer 67% (4/6)
  • Hatecrest Siren 100% (3/3)
  • Hatecrest Wave Rider 100% (2/2)
  • Hatecrest Warrior 50% (1/2)
I believe the drop rates haven changed, but maybe I was just lucky.

The droprate is not terrible, just make sure you are killing the HATECREST naga. It should only take 30-45 minutes. If its not around there then your either a magic man or a noob.

I read the posts and was expecting worse. I started out on the southwest coast and got first 4 to drop off screamers. But as I moved inland, the drop rate stopped. As a matter of fact, I got 8 of the 10 off pulls right near the coast. (drop rate right around 50%) The other 2 were inland on a substantially higher number of kills. Prob less than 10%.

I had medium luck here. I got abou 1/3 of my scales each from warriors, wave riders, and sirens. It took about 45 minutes so you do have to be patient, but I also got 3 Black Pearls and a formula to enchant shields with +5 stamina. It was kinda long but because of the drops I considered it a good 45 minutes.

I found the best drop rate on the small hill that has the largest building on it. It was populated with surf-riders and warriors. I got a 50% drop there, but only about a 10% drop elswhere.

the location is 26, 52 to begin to kill, is just south of feathermoon. You will find 4 type of naga:
HATECREST SCREAMER (can silence and heal) : hp about 1500
drop rate 4% 1/25
HATECREST WAVE RIDER (warrior) : hp about 2100
drop rate 15% 2/13
HATECREST SIREN (does nature damage and heal) : hp about 1700
drop rate 0% 0/12
HATECREST WARRIOR (warrior) : hp about 2400
drop rate 4% 2/48
