Against Lord Shalzaru

Eliminate Lord Shalzaru, and then bring the Mysterious Relic he uncovered to Latronicus Moonspear in Feathermoon Stronghold.
Mysterious Relic

Description

<name>, new scouting reports have given us a good idea on the naga chain of command. Royalty is present amongst their rank and file, and they're the ones calling all the shots.

Specifically, we've identified one of the crueler royals as Lord Shalzaru. Scouts report that he himself has uncovered an odd relic during a recent naga excavation in a cave south of the main ruins, across the water on the Isle of Dread.

Put a stop to it by putting a stop to him, and bring me his relic so we can study it.

Comments in which the poster only writes about how easy it was to kill the NPC are NOT helpful. They are boring, self aggrandizing, and a little sad.

It is helpful to post coords or detailed directions to the location for people without Cosmos. It is also helpful to explain what you encountered, but it doesn't help anyone to read over and over again about 'how easy' it was for everyone! Stop bragging and post something useful!

The cave is at 27,67 or south of Ruins of Solarsal.&nbsp There are plenty of nagas, but they are spread out, outside of the cave.&nbsp Inside is a different story.

Most of the nagas you encounter are lvl 43-45.&nbsp Be careful of the aggro because these nagas run, they will attract other nagas.&nbsp To get to Shalzaru, from the entrance, go straight until you see a water.&nbsp Hes on the other side. (Make sure to clear out as much of the nagas as possible).&nbsp As for the boss, he wasn't to hard. Shalzaru was orange to me, I was level 44 atm, hes 47.&nbsp Pulled the guard next to him, and then he came after.&nbsp Quickly got rid of his guard and then went on to him. His regular damage for me is 50-55 dmg, considering that I have 3.3k defense.&nbsp He casts frost nova every 4-5 seconds which can deal about 200 damage.&nbsp Dealing with two of them, brought me to about 1/2 life.&nbsp I didn't have to bubble or heal.&nbsp The real hard part is getting out :P cuz the nagas spawn so damn fast.&nbsp Oh well, heres my chance to bubble =D.

Don't have Cosmos? Read this.

The Lord Shalzaru is on Isle of Dread, the second island that is located directly south of Feathermoon Stronghold. Simply swim from the Ruins of Solarsal to the island. Continue on a trail until you find a cave entrance. Watch out as many naga are lurking around. If you walk straight into the entrance and don't turn at all, you will soon find two pillars. Walk between these. You should onw be in a room with a pool of water. He is located at the left-most part of this pool. He has 2 guards close to him and several further away. I think he is blue in color rather than the green like other naga. He is level 47 and is simple to beat if you take out his 2 close guards. You may want to set your hearthstone to the stronghold to avoid running through naga afterward. I hope this helps.

i'm a lvl 43 paladin so i'm a sponge for damage, and i managed to solo this using a few tricks. I died the first time trying to get through the cave i ended up getting slaughtered by 3 sourcerers. While dead I explored the rest of the cave and found that there is a big underwater tunnel east of the island where the naga lord is. I decided to rez and run for the tunnel and dive in I ended up pulling a whole lot of naga when I ressed but I used the paladins magic sheilds which in total gave me 20 seconds to peg it to the underwater tunnel, thus getting me far enough from the mobs so they ran back to their spawn points.

It's advisable to clear the area around the island before you try and pull the naga guards, and to watch out because the respawn rate is pretty quick. It's possible to pull the guards on the island without pulling the naga lord, i just used the age old sneak as close as i could. The only problem was that they were bother sorceresses so if you can find a handy piece of scenery to put yourself behind they have no line-of-sight and cannot cast on you, therefore that will pull them to you and away from the island. nice exp, a total of about 6800exp (once you deliver the artifact ot the quest givers wife) plus a piece of plate or mail armor.

Not a difficult quest, solo'ed as a lvl44 'lock (+ Voidwalker)

Respawn is insane, I took to killing two at a time just so they would all go down faster. Killed all the ones around Shalzaru, then took down one of his bodyguards.

He and the mage with him didnt even hurt me, they were too busy picking on the void.

-------

Afterwards, there is an underwater tunnel that goes down to another underground area. I went down there to see, all thats there are more nagas and No way out... by the time I came back up outta that place Shalzaru and everything else in the dungeon were back up.

Hearthed out...

The hole he's in is at 26,67.

You get to the island from the northwest corner. Up hill, then down, following the path until you go under an archway and enter the cave. When you enter the cave, you can go left, straight, or right. Go straight. I'm not a slow killer, and the mobs were respawning when I was about 4-5 mobs ahead, so just be prepared, they respawn quickly behind you. Going straight, it goes up a slight hill, and at the top is a large room with an island in the middle. There are a few mobs sprinkled around the room, and 2 guards with the main mob on the island. You don't need to clear the large room, just clear out one side so you can pull. The guards respawn differently each time, so one time they might be casters, one time melee, and the next time one of each. Both of the guards can be pulled separately by a priest with Mind Soothe. Obviously throw the soothe on the boss, and then pull each one of the guards separately when they are at their maximum distance from the boss. Again, once you enter the cave, you'll be lucky to have 5 minutes before the mobs respawn after you have killed them, so be prepared for that. It isn't hard, its easily soloable by a 42 priest, mostly shadow specced. I was never once below half health or mana, even on the main. You just have to keep moving, and don't *!@# around drinking after every mob or you'll have a respawn elbowdeep up your ass.

NOTE: Another thing I thought I would mention. ALL of the mobs here run off at low health, and with the large concentration of mobs in the place, the likelihood that you will get adds is good. Watch out for them.

Good luck!

Soloed this last night as a lvl 44 Dwarf Hunter.&nbsp I never died but came close due to the respawn rate inside the cave, which is insanely quick like others have noted.

The naga outside and immediately inside the cave are spaced enough for solo pulls, but the respawn rate means you gotta keep moving quick.&nbsp Keep moving to the right inside the cave and you will come to the inner pool of water where Shalzaru resides with two others.

After clearing out the naga in the inner cave (man, they respawn FAST HERE!), I found a safe spot in the water, and sent my pet in after Shalzaru and hit him with most of my powerful shots.&nbsp He went down quick, but so did my pet from the other naga.&nbsp Feigned death to get the aggro off me, then rezzed to kill the remaining naga and retrieve whatever was needed from his corpse.&nbsp Slowly made my way back out, killing off the naga yet again.&nbsp Could have hearthed out but decided I needed the easy extra xp.

Decent xp and rewards when all is said and done.&nbsp Plus, for those trying to safely solo without encountering Horde, I did this in about 20 minutes around 11pm EST and didn't encounter one other player, Alliance or Horde.

Ok this is how I dealt with this quest as a level 43 holy/disc priest.

I can see this quest being MUCH harder for melee classes. Wait a few more levels.

Clear the way through the cave on the Isle of Dread (south of the island in which you pick up the quest) by trying to pull only one mob at a time, make sure you nuke them with a smite/mind blast before they get chance to run.

Keep going straight until you reach an area with a pool, this is where Shalzaru is located. Clear all the mobs around the area leaving only Shalzaru, the warrior and caster.

Now, here's the tricky bit. Keep to the left and pull the warrior, he shouldn't aggro the other two and deal with him.

The best way I found to deal with Shalzaru himself at my level was to mind control the caster, cast blizzard, attack and as soon as it has cooled down, cast blizzard again. By doing this, Shalzaru was down to 50% health by the time he killed the MC'd mob.

Bubble, and nuke him, when he died, I had only lost 6% HP.

Hope this helps any priest trying to do this quest.

Then i came back out cleared around him and killed him.

If you are careful and pull from the side, you can grab him and just one of his guards. I was able to sheep the guard closest to me, and only Shalzaru was pulled. Be careful though - the mobs around him spawn ridiculously fast. Just drinking my water to replenish mana sometimes brought new spawns down on me.

I soloed this as a lvl 44 Bal/Resto Druid and had mixed results.&nbsp Going into the cave was pretty simple, sneaking/DPSing as a cat and healing/pulling as a caster, but then I got to the pool.&nbsp I decided to try to DPS Shalzaru and take the beating that his adds would give, but that ended up being a mistake and I died.&nbsp The Sorceress and Shalzaru were both hitting me with 250/pop frost spells.&nbsp My health bar was gone before I knew it&nbsp :-(

So, I res'd in the nook behind the trio and got my health and buffs back up and then tried something different.&nbsp I cleared out some of the surrounding naga to prevent problems with running and then hid behind the column of stone next to the island that Shalzaru is on (it is on the right as you are looking at Shalzaru from the cave entrance).&nbsp I made sure that I was out of sight from his protectors, and hit him with a Fairie Fire.&nbsp No damage, but enought to get his attention but (most importantly) not his adds' attention.&nbsp This ended up pulling only him.&nbsp I was able to take care of him with little problem 1 on 1 and was done.

Anway, it seemed like a neat trick, so I thought I would share.

This was a great series and got me from mid lvl 44 to just cresting lvl 45 when I handed the last part of the quest in.&nbsp I can't use the gear rewards, but that is OK.

44 mage just soloed this, and it wasn't really all that bad.

As previous posters say, keep moving forwards because the repop is pretty fast, but I had no trouble staying ahead of them even taking a mana break after every second kill.

The cave is on the north end of the island south of feathermoon, if you approach along the beach from the west you can get to the path into the cave with only 2 kills. The second kill is through a wall which is blocking your way though, so you need some kind of range attack to fire through it (spells, bow, whatever). After that second kill, you can get around the wall by jumping at the hill at it's south end... that will get you around the end of it and onto the main path.

The naga are pretty large which means distances are deceptive with them - they look closer to you and each other than they really are (I kept attacking to find I was out of range when I was sure they were close). This means that although they look really tightly packed you don't have much worries about over-pulling, and you can actually just walk past quite a few if you stay on the wall away from them.

Inside, just head straight and you'll find the guy slightly to your left in the main chamber. He has two pals nearby and another one in the water in front of his 'island'. I killed a couple on the patch of ground to my left to give myself space to work.

The one in front came solo for me, but I didn't fancy my chances with the split the order from left to right was sorcerer/named/warrior so I sheeped the warrior which after a second aggroed the named, the sorcerer never saw a thing.

A good tip posted previously is that the casters all use cold attacks - mages can just use our Frost Ward and they die very easily.

The named guy was level 47, he seemed to have lousy resists for fire, good for arcane... he resisted all 5 shots from my Arcane Missiles, but the fire hit every time.

You really don't wanna be fighting back out - especially if your 'sheep' is about to wear off and pull the warrior and the sorceror at the same time :) Use your HS to leave safely...

As a rogue, this quest was like taking candy from a baby.

I went alone with my lvl 44 combat rogue and only had to engage one naga...the lord.

This cave is a perfect enviroment for DISTRACT. I walked in under stealth. A few places where I feared I would be detected I just distracted them and walked right past the tight groups. Walked all the way through to the Lord (lvl 47) with his 2 guard nagas very close to him. Again, simply using distract i spun them all away from me and engaged the Lord iwth a ranged attack. he walked right over to me while all the guards starred away at my distract. Killed him and grabbed the loot..stealthed out with 2 more distracts.

This quest is extremely easy for a rogue. Hope this helps someone.

42 Lock (destro spec)- Solo'd using Voidwalker per suggestions above.&nbsp Cleared mobs around Shalzaru and pulled one of his adds without pulling him.&nbsp Sent void on Shalzaru while I dispatched final add.&nbsp Void didn't last much longer so I sacrificed after dropping first set of dots (about 30% resist), then continued dots / fear (luckily he didn't pull any more mobs).&nbsp Bandaged during fears, with 1 health pot and healthstone so I could lifetap.&nbsp At about 1/10th health he starts to wander off - of course at that time a naga repops.&nbsp I feared the repop, finished off shalzaru, and down to nil health and nil mana - refeared the repop and hearthed during the fear.

Thanks for above posts - saved me from several deaths learning the hard way.

I am a 45 hunter and I did this but one thing you should remember (yes, he is straight in, don't make any turns) then you'll see a room with water.&nbsp There are a lot of adds in there.&nbsp You can take out the one to the R and then to the far right.&nbsp
&nbsp Then go around the primiter of the room.&nbsp You'll have to get in the water, but if you do this, you don't have to deal with any of the other in front of him.
&nbsp (one or two in the water) then you'll see him on a mound of dirt.
There is a caster on his far right and a guard of some sort right next to him.
&nbsp I don't think there is anyway to avoid the guard, so go right for the lord.&nbsp &nbsp The caster did nothing.&nbsp Once the lord is dead you can loot even if the other is not.
&nbsp Make sure you bind at the inn there.&nbsp I don't think I would have wanted to go out on my own.
&nbsp When you first get in the cave it seems like there is no way there are mobs every 6 feet.&nbsp But I pulled them to me rather than send pet, and none aggro'd.
&nbsp So, take it slow.

For all those having problems controlling all the three mobs at once, IT IS possible to kill the left one without pulling aggro of Shalzaru and the other guard.
Being a level 42 hunter, 5 levels below the target, I managed to kill him by sending in pet on Shalzaru, activating Rapid Fire, shooting Arcane shots whenever possible. Also use multishot to hit both the mobs when the health of your pet is going low. This will give you aggro from the other guard ( Pet can continue tanking without dieing ) while you can take a potion if necessary.

I (lvl 46 druid) read all the comments, and figured I should be able to solo this. I went kitty and stealthed into the grotto and up behind Shalzaru (yes there are an intimidating number of naga on the way in adn surrounding the big guy)... My plan was to pounce on him from behind and just take him out as fast as I could, letting the 2 guards beat on me... yeah... not so successful... it miiiiight have worked if I hadn't experienced some ill-timed lag (once it cleared I was already dead pft!).

At any rate, the reason for this post is that there is a small area where you can rez inside and not agro any of the mobs (at least at 46)... directly behind and to the south of Shalzaru in the "corner" of the box-ey type area he has his back to.

I rez'ed, healed up, ate some buff food and stealthed around to the north side to try to take out the guard on "the left" as noted on previous posts... this is the northernmost guard, on "his" right. This is true, you can just pull this guard w/o agro-ing the big guy. I killed the 2 naga closest to the trio in question on the northern most wall before I tried the guard pull so that I had some room to move back a little to try to control the death-run-agro radius of the guard...

Went back to my "original" plan, pounced on Shalzaru from behind, managed to get a 5 combo-point Rip on him, went human, did a regrow and Moonfire'd the last of the life out of him... He did agro one sorceress as he did his death-agro-run... but I managed to loot him before&nbsp I died...
Rezed in the aforementioned corner and then stealthed out to safety.

Oh, and while I was dead I searched and searched for the fabled "secret tunnel"... to no avail... if someone who has seen it could post the coordinates of the entrance that would be cool... but I "swam" around every nook and cranny of that pool around Shalzaru and didn't see any tunnel...

So, I was freaking out about this quest at first doing it solo... but it just takes a lot of patients.
Once you find the area on the isle of dread, just kill one at a time. When you get to the Sorc naga's, hit with a frost ball, then put up frost absorb thing and I never lost any health.
With the melee warrior guys, I just kept throwing frostball things at them, then once they got close, I would nova them.&nbsp It took about 15 - 20 minutes to get down to Lord Shalzaru. I went on the right side and killed the sorc's and pulled his body guard, without pulling aggro on Shalzaru.&nbsp He wasn't an elite monster, so it was pretty easy, just time consuming. Ended up with 2 golden pearls plus a lot of exp.

I'm a 49 draenei hunter ,beast mastery specc'd. I waited til this was green and my quest log had nothing but dungeon or group quests otherwise I suspect it would have been a bit harder to have done in my early 40s.

the easiest way for me to get there was I just jumped ship after riding up into Feralas and taking the boat to Feathermoon.&nbsp Swimming once you get there is pretty easy as well.

I sent my pet after each naga, most of them were sorceresses or special guard, so I hit each one with viper sting to start sucking off their mana.&nbsp once you get to the mouth of the cave, simply go in straight til you hit Shalzaru's little pimp den.&nbsp you can kill off on either right or left, clearing out a bit of space then go on in and take him.&nbsp if you have a pet or another person , it can go pretty fast, they didn't respawn til i was halfway out of the cave, but figured i'd rather try and kill my way out than fly back in from SW if I hearthed.&nbsp

coords for the cave listed above all worked for me as well.&nbsp

Had no real problems as a 43 Paladin, though I died a couple of times due to bad luck.&nbsp Because of the speed at which the Nagas respawn, it's best to go in with auras and blessings that give you healing, and don't burn up a lot of mana.&nbsp Be ready to stun them when they start to run away to avoid adds (the source of my deaths).&nbsp If you have grenades, then throwing one when they get down to 25%, followed by a stun, works every time.

When you get to the big cave, see where the spellcasting Shalzaru add is (left or right, it was left for me), then hug the wall heading that way and taking out the defenders.&nbsp Take out one in the side tunnel to give yourself some room, then carefully aggro the spellcaster and run around the corner to deny her line of sight, she will then head towards you and away from Shalzaru (you can't seem to hide behind the rock pillar, I died here because I didn't do this, and while Shal didn't aggro when I was fighting her, she managed to run one step and Shal was on me).&nbsp Take her out, then go after Shalzaru and his add you kill the add first so you don't take double-pounding for as long, then Shalzaru (if you die after taking out the add, just run back, res, and kill him before the respawn).&nbsp Once you've taken care of the add, it's easy.

Did this with my lvl 42 disc/holy priest and didn't find it easy at all. The way to the boss went smoothless. Just pulled one at the time and went to the dead mob's position. If I ever run out of mana, I shielded and wanded the mob to dead to keep the pace up. No problems with respawn rate at all.

Boss however is a completely other story. I forgot I could pull the boss without aggroing his adds (did this q once with a shadow priest), so I tried to take out one of the adds first, resulting in pulling the boss. The first time I died with him having less of his life, second time I got him after a minutes long fight. I needed to use my cd-abilities (symbol of hope, gift of naruu and inner focus) to kill him. The fight took so long, because I realised he resisted a lot of my spells, costing too much mana. So I kept wanding him to sava mana. Shielded and healed when I ran out of life. I got him the second time, because I decided to replenish my inner fire, when it ran out.

I'm very curious how the 'low-lvl' holy/disc priests managed to pull it off so easily as they comment here. I have some experience with playing a priest (have a lvl 70 shadow priest) and can easily say this was the hardest fight I had on this char.
