Frostmane Hold

Explore Frostmane Hold, and kill 5 Frostmane Headhunters for Senir Whitebeard in Kharanos.
  •
Fully explore Frostmane Hold

Description

I'm behind on my report, and could use your help, <name>. I just managed to find where the trolls are holed up, but I saw so many trolls, I was afraid to go in.

Here's what I need... Go down to the cave, poke around inside, kill a few of the trolls, then come back here.

Take the road north out of Kharanos, when you get to the bridge, follow the frozen river west until you reach Iceflow Lake. You'll find Brewnall Village on the west bank. The Hold is southwest of the village.

--Getting There--
Walk the long way to the middle of Iceflow lake (33,42) and kill all normal animals you may encounter. Once you arrive at the Camp Brewnall Village (29,46) Head south West to the cave "FrostMane Hold" (24,50).

--Part 1 (Kill all 5)--
When you start see see trolls slowly pull the outside defenders 1 by 1 and then make it to the cave. just keep pulling them and killing them untill all 5 are slain.

--Part 2--
For this i reccomend if you have any items or food that will increace stamina use them now. SImply kill the forst 3-4 in the cave so its safe (carefull not to get mobbed by 2) and then run as fast as possible to the end of the entrace passage. Jump down from there onto the ice and run around that snow/ice mound in the middle and it SHOULD say (Quest Frostmne Hold - Area Discorver) or something and then you will probably die but that doesnt matter because you are under 9 simply talk to the Spirit Healer and walk the 30 feet to the quest hand in and theres 750 exp.

It is actually relatively simple if you know how to do it. As soon as you go in the cave you can either go to the left or right. Pick the left path; it will lead you to a ledge. Jump down and head towards the right. At exactly 22,52 the quest should be completed.

You need to get to 21,52 inside the cave at Frostman Hold. It's the one in the valley not the one up in the mountains.

A kamakaze dash around the cave is the first time it's made sense to this young Paladin to use devine prot. And if you die the trot back will use up 4/5 of the cooldown!

This quest is very annoying to do aggro range = huge, damage from trolls = huge, and they spawn fast. Also the run back is long and annoying

Even though you might not have seen the pop-up that says that the quest is complete that doesnt mean anything. I bet that half of you that had actually gone a full circuit from right all around and came out the left, had actually completed the quest and didn't notice it. All of you should check your quest log and see if you had actually completed it or if there really is a bug, because I have done this quest on 3 different occasions with my warrior, rogue, and mage and have never had a problem

And add that they respawn very quickly, so running away and living is nearly impossible. All in all, it's pretty annoying.

They where hitting me for about 10-13 instead of the 6-8 from the surrounding animals of equal level, in most cases I came away from killing a single troll with only 10-20% life left...And lets not even talk about aggro range !_!

This is one of those quests that make me think "What if I was someone who had just started playing the game and this was his first ever char" Not exactly the best way to "wow" new customers.

Yeah, I experienced the same thing last night on the Durotan server.&nbsp I thought it was awfully strange when I entered the cave and it changed all my channels to Alterac Mountains and said I had entered Winterax Hold in Alterac Valley.&nbsp Looked up Alterac Mountains on the map to make sure I wasn't crazy.&nbsp Same thing happened when I died.&nbsp I didn't realize there were creatures that had ? for their level.&nbsp Talk about getting owned.

The prequests for this quest to show up is the following from the Coldridge Valley (Dwarf/Gnome starting area)

1. The Troll Cave
2. The Stolen Journal
3. Senir's Observations
4. Senir's Observations

Some of these quests are missing from wowhead after the cataclysm. I'll fix the formatting so the quests are linkable once classic goes live.

I finished this tonight after a few deaths. There is a curved path between the two large rooms. The midway point of that path was the spot where it gave me exploration compleat.

What's the key to getting this quest to register you have 'explored the hold'? I've run all around the dungeon twice now (died both times) and it still doesn't register I've been there. Anyone know?

Just did it today as a Lvl. 8 warlock.

Unless you have other quests to complete out in the area, it might be advantageous to make the Kharanos tavern your 'home', saving you some return travel time when you turn in the quest.

As mentioned below, correct path will be the second left once entering the cave... (immediately after the first left). You will come to a ledge that looks down on a pathway with two mobs below. Initially, I made the mistake of using a ranged attack, thinking one of mobs would just jump the ledge. Unfortunately, it ran the 'long way around' and ended up dragging 5 or 6 mobs with him. After dying, I came back and jumped down with the 2 mobs before attacking them (looking down from the ledge and to your left there should be enough space so you won't immediately aggro the first mob). After killing the 2 mobs, i followed the path (only 1 direction possible at this point) into the large room, hitting up the chest on the way. Right -before- I entered the main room, I received the 'exploration complete' message, and then hearthed back to the tavern in Kharanos.

There's a ledge somewhere near the entrance. A chest usually spawns there, I accidentally fell and killed two trolls below. I backed up to the edge because I was low on health, but as soon as I started running into a very open area, the exploration was done.

As soon as you enter, turn left and off the little ledge.

Don't confuse this mission with The Perfect Stout mission which has you gather Shimmerweeds on Shimmerwood Ridge (or something like that). There is only one Head Hunter there, and he spawns only once every five minutes or something.

For this mission of Frostmane Hold, make sure you're in Brewnall Village and then go directly southwest and you will run into the trolls and their cave.

I don't think the exploration part is in effect anymore. Just kill at least 5 Head Hunter type trolls and you should be good to go.

For some reason I have diffuculty taking on more then one Frostmane Headhunter! I dunno why even, I'm a Level 9 Dwarf Warrior, and I can take a decent hit I guess, but they deal out like 9-10 Damage to me. And I've got like over 200 HP so I don't see why I can't finish this quest faster. All I have yet to do is Explore Fully, then I'm done. I'll finish it tonight, its just really annoying dying becuase these few Headhunters practically rape me.... Any tips?

This requires you to go to the very southern tip of the cave, to the part that looks like a "C" west of the room with the frozen pond in it.

Continue Quest Text (from Senir Whitebeard):

"You can't find it? My directions were very clear! We don't have much time, you've got to hurry! Don't come back until you've found the cave."

Complete Quest Text (from Senir Whitebeard):

"Ah, <name>! I didn't think you'd have much trouble finding the place, my directions are excellent, you know...

"Let me just finish up my report then."

<He brings out some paper and scribbles on it momentarily.>

"There! Well, haha, now this certainly is funny... I don't suppose, <name>, that you would mind doing one last favor for me?"
