Forging the Shaft

Bring 8 Thorium Plated Daggers to Kalaran Windblade.

Description

To hold the flawless flame, we will need a shaft and a casing. You must first find a suitable shaft.

The Dark Iron taskmasters and slavers of the cauldron use weapons of enchanted thorium, an extremely sturdy alloy. If you bring me eight thorium plated daggers, I can break the alloy down and reforge a shaft.

Although the quest text says Slavers and Taskmasters drop the daggers, you can also get them from Lookouts and Slave Workers.

I got them from Watchmen & Geologists at 62,62 too. There is a dwarf lying in the pit that starts the Suntara Stones quest.
It's also not far from the The Key to Freedom quest.

Yes, these Daggers drop from all of the Dark Iron mobs in the area.

Believe it or not, it was not hard at all, and i didn't have 6% drop rate, i did it in 15 minutes, and got my 4,400 xp and was done. pretty decent quest.

Best way to do this quest is to stay around the surface, on the northern part of the Cauldron. You don't even have to go into the Cauldron itself. Seems like all the dwarves in the area drop the daggers, and the drop rate was pretty nice.

It's best to double this quest up with the Wanted/Missing board quests in Thorium Point, which has you kill Dark Iron Slavers, Taskmasters, Steamsmiths and Lookouts. The drop rate on the daggers is not too bad, so if you get this before you do the other two I mentioned, you likely won't have to kill any extra mobs.

if you happen to be in the area, even the lowbie dark iron geologists by the outhouse drop this, and are a much easier kill for physical dps classes

The Dark Iron Watchmen at 63,61 drop these too. only lvl 44ish so they die really easy. Do this with http://classicdb.ch/?quest=4449 for some easy xp.

holy crow.
i got the first 7 pretty easily after grinding. the last one took me a whole 30 minutes of almost non stop killing. i was getting so pissed. but now im happy :)

I didn't have to venture down into the cauldron, got my daggers from the steelsmiths and taskmasters next to the lifts, about 30 mins

out of about 15 taskmasters i got 2 daggers and then when i was killing Watchman at Grimesilt Digsite i got the other 6 in about 10 mins or less
just have to wait for watchman to respawn like once

Out of 8 daggers, I got 3 off of the slaves, the rest off of the taskmasters and slavers and I killed more slaves than anything else.

I did this at 51 and got 4400 xp.

Took me no more than 20 mobs to finish this quest..

I just whent into the cauldron and killed around. Near the east side of the cauldron there are 3 that walk around, I'd go and kill those usually.

lv 48 paladin.

once you clear out the watchmen, go down into that small pit and you'll find a dwarf lying on the ground. the quest asks u to escort him (Suntara Stones) While escorting you'll encounter a patrol, they will drop 2-3 daggers for your quest. did both of these in less than 10 min. EASY

Nice to do it while cleaning mobs for Wanted: Overseer Maltorius( http://classicdb.ch/?quest=7701 ) and What the Flux ( http://classicdb.ch/?quest=7722 ). Also, there is some quest to kill dark iron slavers/other type of mobs, both drops daggers.

Best drop rate for me, hovewer, was inside Cauldron' caverns, so 2 quests I linked may be best option.
