Bring the distress beacon to Oglethorpe's homing robot.
OOX-17/TN Distress Beacon
Provided Item:
OOX-17/TN Distress Beacon

Description

You have uncovered some sort of strange, egg-shaped device made from metal. Fiddling with one of its knobs springs the egg to life, as it opens up into some sort of gnomish robotic contraption! A voice from inside the robotic egg crackles to life.

"The name's Oglethorpe, and my homing robot has gone missing! I will reward you for its recovery! Please take this beacon to the robot. Excellent, I now have computed the coordinates for you! It crashed near the Gaping Chasm in Tanaris!"

This leads to a rescue quest. The actual thing you need to find is the southermost "dot" on this map: https://classicdb.ch/?npc=7784. Make sure you have another person if you're around the level that this quest is designed for, several adds are spawned at once in some cases and as a 46 mage I cannot take four scorpids with 2500 health each at once.

I'm going to post this message on all three of these "Find" quests, just in case someone doesn't see it on one of the other two.

If you plan to do these quests in a group (which is very helpful, as any escort quest) everyone must first have completed the "Find" part of the quest, which means you have to find the chicken, choose "Complete" and then be *offered* the next part of the quest, which is the actual escort part. But do not accept this part until everyone has done the "Find" part, otherwise it won't be offered to them as escort quests normally are, because technically you are not on the same stage of the quest yet.

So just complete the "Find" part, then when the next part is offered, decline it until everyone is ready to accept it.

What a hassle to find. To all you cosmo's user's the exact location is 60,65... Then it turns into an escort quest, make sure you have minimal 2 45's and you because you come to a group of 4 lvl 45 scorps @ once. Otherwise, decent XP for finding (4700) and escort was 5000xp

This thing likes to wander into crap.

Sometimes it (the robot chicken) walks into groups of 3 level 45ish mobs.

All told he probably walks into:

2 x 3 mob groups
4-5 x 1 mob

The robot chicken is located at 60,65.

You have to walk into the Gaping Chasm and take a left.&nbsp He is up a hill.

If you stick to the sides (the rocks), you won't aggro any toons.

start at 60,64(in the mountains)
quests is repeatable..just go 60,64 and start it again

soloed as lvl 48 mage.

1. kill FIRST 3 scorpions(they are close to each other) on the way to Steamwheedle Port THEN START THE QUEST
2. dont attack mobs that are following your chicken(notice they do NO damage to him), attack those which your chickens attack. Usually your chicken will give You worning message.
3. Chicken will be attacked by 3 lvl 44 bandits(mage +2) - thats hardest part.
4. go to booty bay :D

general tip: after a fight regen then follow your chicken on your mount

I love how blizzard puts these kinds of quests in just to mess with us. I also love the sence of humor they have with their quest systems...unlike other games, wow is very enjoyable despite oftentimes being hard. If you wanna complain about these quests, that obviously means youve tried them a few times, which makes the game even better. If all quests were easy and predictible lvling would be sooooo boring. To enjoy the chicken fully:

1.If your chicken won't prompt( start moving) its probably because someone else is doing the quest, not because blizzard is dumb >.<

2 stay a good distance behind your target chicken, if there's a single mob that starts running after the chick, it will evade, however if you catch aggro....the chicken will ignore you as well!

3. Have lots of pots and bandages, the spawned mobs are not random and are always in the escorts usually in groups of 3. You cant heal your chicken but you can heal yourself!

4. Everyclass has good crowd control, use it to your advantage and usually your able to solo!

I got it to work on 2/19.&nbsp He was actually at 60,64 and not actually in the gorge zone, it's still in tanaris on the north edge of the gorge.&nbsp There was one bad spawn of scorpions but pretty easy other than that.

I'm not sure why people are having trouble figuring out where to turn in this quest, it tells you right in the quest log - unless it's because Oglethorpe Obniticus can be a bit hard to find in Booty Bay.

Start at the main dock level, same one where you catch the boat to Ratchet. Head UP the ramp in the main shop area. At the top of that ramp you should see the goblin Fin Fizracket laying down in a makeshift wooden tent. Turn to the left and do a 180 degree turn and go UP that ramp as well. Go straight ahead and take the first door on the right. You'll see Oglethorpe Obniticus standing there in the middle of the room, a bald gnome engineer with goggles. Talk to him and you're done!

If you can't use either of the items and need to vendor them, take the shield (Optomatic Deflector) as the reward. It vendors for 1g 59s, more than the Thermotastic Egg Timer at less than 1g.

I found the chicken in the mountains NE of the Gaping Chasm, in a small clearing. You should get the gold icon indicating his position on the mini-map when you get close, so he's not that hard to find.

Other than random mobs the chicken picks up while walking, there are two spawns you have to fight. The first are 3 level 44 scorpions. The second spawn is 2 level 44 bandits, a level 44 caster and a level 44 voidwalker (4 total).

The funny thing is, when walking, the chicken moves at a speed that any mobs that aggro onto him will chase, but when they stop to attack they get left behind and run to get him again, and never catch up. Any that are doing this, you can ignore. The only time he'll pick up mobs is when he runs right over them.

Once you finish escorting the chicken to Steamwheedle, you have to go to Booty Bay and talk to Oglethorp Obnoticus to finish the quest. Congratulations! The chicken loves you.

Tip on this quest: When escorting the chicken, stay away from the mobs, and let the chicken pull aggro. DO NOT attack the mobs unless the chicken stops and attacks them, because many times the mobs wont hit the chicken, only chase him. Every now and then the mobs will hit the chicken successfully, but most of the time, they wont touch it for some reason. The only time it never works is against the 3 scorpions and the 3 wastewanders. You have to kill them.

Good luck, have fun!

The first time my 49 hunter and pet wiped, as several adds in addition to the first group of scorps descended on us. I rezzed and killed everything in the area. The second time, the chicken basically ran past everything, and I left pet on passive and ran away too. Except for two basilisks along the way, only had to attack the pirates.

I solo'd this with my level 48 pally. How i did it was when a group of scorpions/hyenna/pirates were aggro'd by the chicken i waded in and cast consecration then judged seal of light and cast another seal of light on my first target in the group. From there i chain cast consecration and whenever seal of light was about up i judged it on the next target and recast seal of light. Keep repeating this for all multiple mob situations.

As a pally all you can do is grind these mobs out one at a time and keep aggro with consecration. Remember to have several instant mana potions along on this quest to keep your mana up and blessing of wisdom on at all times.

If the chicken catches aggro, don't attack it unless the chicken itself turns around and starts fighting. Eventually the mob will go away, always just a bit too far behind it to actually attack... Most of the time, if you do engage an enemy that the chicken hasn't "seen," it will just wander off oblivious to the mob that's trying to chew you up.

Soloed this and the other two quests, very few mobs to fight besides the groups that you're forced to fight. But maybe being a 55 Warlock had something to do with it. :D

Did this as a 48 BM hunter with a priest. First I tried to solo this but got owned by scorpions, dunno how lower levels could have done this "easily" solo but I guess I just suck. Scorpions was the only challengin part tho, if you manage to bypass that somehow this is a walk in a park even alone.

I soloed this quest as a lvl 51 pally and I can say it was nasty. I'm not sure if it was a bug or part of the quest but when the chicken agroo'ed something he didn't take any damage from it. I'm not sure if the quest was also upgraded but i got jumped by 4 lvl 47 skorpids and then 3 lvl 45 pirates. Good exp and a good sheild as a reward.

I helped a warrior with it so that he would help me in return. I'm a mage, so the AoE was cake, but he would be nice when I had to rest. So I helped him since he was already partway into it, then he said he had to go and logged. Jerk. So I go to solo it, and halfway through, two horde come and say hello. Jerks.

Next, I rez and go back to the chicken who has a yellow exclamation point, and I accept the quest. The chicken stands there and does nothing. Not sure what is happening, but I'll try it tomorrow.

I had a hell of a time finding the robot after I got the drop for the beacon. I finally found it at 60,64, its in between two hills just behind the Gaping Chasm. Its a little hard to find, and he's not always there (ie someone's escorting him at the moment, so you have to wait for him to respawn)

the best strategy I found was to try it once, and die when the first set of scorpions spawn. Then, rez and take them out, then run the quest again. He'll pull a couple of mobs to him, but unless he actually attacks them they only chase him for a bit and then run away, so I tended to stay a little back. The second ambush was a pain, and I had to rely on feign death and a fair amount of potions, but I got it. This one is nearly impossible to do solo until you're at so high a level that the xp isn't worth it. But if you can team up with a few people it doesnt take too much time.

It was pretty easy. I'm a 48 warrior, fury speced. Died at first because I wasn't sure what I'd find, but after that retaliation/sweeping strikes/cleave on the first group :P.

The second group has pretty low level mobs, 43'ish, just kill the mage first it's doing most damage, otherwise sweeping strikes/cleave again and that was it.. nice quest.

It's pretty retarded tho, sometimes it won't attack your target so you gotta run after it again hehe >_<
