The pillars now offer some insight into the lore surrounding the ruined city.

"A tormented voice whispers: He cannot be defeated. <The relic burns to nothing. The memories it held are now your own. This city was destroyed by a being not of this world.>"

"A tormented voice whispers: Your existence is acknowledged. <The relic turns to dust. Your head throbs with newfound wisdom. Something evil lurks in the heart of the mountain.>"

"A tormented voice whispers: Help us, outsider. <The relic crumbles to dust. A vision of eight Dark Iron dwarves performing some sort of ritual fills your head.>"

"A tormented voice whispers: You will perish here. <Your mind fills with visions of chaos and destruction.>"

"A tormented voice whispers: Defiler... you will be punished for this incursion. <A symbol of flame radiates from the relic before it crumbles to the earth.>"

For those of you who are having problems with this quest- MAKE SURE you listen to the Royal Historians little 'speach' before you set off to collect the Relics (You have to tell her to continue, and then let her know you are ready for the quest). I did not, and was unable to 'collect' any Relics- Until I returned to the Royal Historian and finished her 'dialog'. After that, the Relics are available to collect. Save yourself some time and grief- make sure you follow the dialog BEFORE you set out =)

OK, here's some info:

The ENTIRE quest line is first pickup-able @ lvl 54 and starts with https://classicdb.ch/quest=3702
You accept, listen to her story, hand in then get:
https://classicdb.ch/quest=3701
This section is in the Burning steppes and is rather annoying if you are indeed below 54, jsut a heads up. After that return to the woman hand it in then the KING gives you the quest chain here:
https://classicdb.ch/quest=4341
This is where the group part starts and you need to go to BRD. After finding Kharan, you get this part of the chain:
https://classicdb.ch/quest=4342
Head back to the king deliver the news, get to BRD kill the emp, talk to the princess he has under his spell, she'll give you: https://classicdb.ch/quest=4363

Go back to IF hand it in then it's somewhat of a mystery,I believe the king gives these out after all of your effort, hand the quest above in and complete, then open up another speach window with him and he offers them...although it is odd that thottbott has no source for the rings, so it makes me wonder, anyhow I hoped that help with some of the mystery! I'll post once I get the entire thing finished!

Having read the comments above, I was about to leave this until later.

I'm only a level 51 feral Druid, and though it would be too difficult.

Well, it's quite easy really. Feral sped'd means I can take on about four levels higher without a problem. In cat form, I was taking down the level 55's without about 70% health left after I took them down. So, taking on 2 at a time was a little difficult, but possible.

The area I was going around is in the North-East and clearly marked as "Ruins of Thaurissan". It's one of the first areas that open up when coming in from south.

Co-ods roughly: 68,33

There are SO MANY STONES

With stealth, it only takes about 10 minutes to complete. Most mobs are 55, so if you can't stealth then just be sure you can take them on.

I just finished this quest wiht no problems at all.&nbsp You simply weave your way in and out of the mobs (i never had to fight one with a little patience) and go through the "opening" procedure at which time it simply tells you that you have gathered the information (or something like that).&nbsp 12 and out.

Just go to the ruins, loot the pillars, they are not well guarded. Always 2-3 visible pillars. Done, no killing just run from one to the next.

I was able to solo this as a 52 hunter w/o pet with NO fights.&nbsp As long as you are careful about the patrolling creeps, you can stay along the edges of the ruins and pick up all of them without fighting anything.&nbsp I did it in about 10 minutes.

The quest is not bugged.

When you get the first part (listen to my story), a gray question mark appears above her head. Click on her again, and then click on "I am ready, Historian Archesonus." Read through the story. When you're finished, she'll give you the next part which is to go collect the relics.

This was easy as a 51 aff. spec lock, didnt even bother trying to stay out of aggro range, just ran around the ruins and killed the guys no problem as they came, found the items no problem, overall, its a really easy quest, i even took 3 of the 53's at the same time, and never died once.

Did quest 2 nights ago (as a 50 mage). Just head to the area stated and pick up the pieces when the mobs arent around. I aggroed one lvl 53 Dwarf mob and died (b/c I tried to sheep him and loot instead of running) but got the rest with no problems. Just sit on your horse and look for the quest pieces, wait for roaming mobs to move away, ride in, dismount, loot, mount back up and get back to a safe spot. Rinse and repeat. I completed the quest in about 20-25 minutes.

The pieces spawn over a pretty wide area, so don't just sit in one spot and wait for respawns. There are plenty to get all 12 without fighting.

Hope this helps.

Got this Q as a lvl 50 Hunter but was already 51 by the time I got to attempting it. I failed miserably, aggroeing the roaming Elementals who arrived in pairs. I returned as lvl 52 and did the "touch-and-go" technique, on foot rather than on mount and without my pet. I hid behind rocks and managed to get the remaining 10 Relics without major trouble (save a wrong turn that meant one death). I could have also gotten the Tablet of the Seven but some passing horde whom I used as a helpful diversion at that point took a different path, so I didnt.

Too much trouble for this ring (for a hunter) if u ask me.

Is this quest bugged?
lv 60 hunter here. i have 2 questions:

1) is this really a quest prerequisite to the king's quest (which gives a reward of either a nice damage ring or a caster ring)?
--if not i really really wanna just skip it and not worry if it's fxxking bugged

2) did i do anything wrong? anyone else find it buggy? i opened a few runes and it did nothing. i can open them but nothing happens. they just disappeared. they dont affect my quest at all... did that happen to anyone else?

This is a nice quest for a paladin.

First off, the ring itself is very useful for a 1h/tank.
Secondly, you can do this quest at a low level. I did it a 53, but all it takes is a Hammer of Justice lasting 5 secs, and a level high enough to don't get it resisted by level 53-55s.

The following method, (which I call Stun&Run in lack of inspiration) is very simple, yet very effective. It can also be used for mining/skinning when an annoying mob is around, interrupting your looting-sequence.

Find a stone with no more than one mob in aggro-radius. Stand near the stone, and wait for the mob to approach you. When he is right beside the stone, use your stun and loot the stone. The key is to start the "Opening"-animation RIGHT after you stun him, as the looting process takes 5 seconds as well. When looted, you can either pull the mob to safe away, or just outrun it.

Either way, the quest is quickly done (35 min including transport), and you get good XP (5450) plus an "Increase" in your Ironforge reputation... I even stumbled across some Truesilver and Thorium nodes while doing the quest :)

They have fixed this, you no longer have to talk to Royal Historian Archesonus against after you pickup the quest, accepting the quest will now let you pickup the relics correctly.

Yes, this is also the prereq. for the "Kharan Mighthammer" questline.
