Solo'd as a 54 hunter... Started the fight with pet tanking and spamming as much dmg as possible before pet died... Then I kited the drake south following the mountains using serpant sting and acrane shot... Aspect of Cheetah helped to get some distance for some auto and multishots before he got in range again... Didn't use any pots or other perishables during the fight

Also, I'm pretty sure the level of the drake is related to the level of who who spawns it, as it was always 54 on my attempts~

Note: The drake is immune to all non-damage status effects

And for the record, the spawned dragon is no longer an elite.

Once obtaining the quest from the Dragon, talk to him again to prove your worthiness.&nbsp He will spawn outside the cave.

I did this as a 54 warlock (affliction spec'd).&nbsp I put my voidy on him, applied all of my DOT's (and I mean all of them). Once I pissed him off, I shadow bolted a couple of times and deathcoiled him once.&nbsp I had to use a healthstone and sacrificed my pet in the end, but I did kill him :)

To get the black dragonflight molt you must complete the quest chain in searing gorge that starts with http://classicdb.ch/?quest=3442 from the NPC(Kalatran Windblade) just south of thorium point. It's a fairly simple and lucrative chain, but it's long. at the end, you aquire the Hoard of the Black Dragonflight which has the Black Dragonflight molt and green or 2 in it.

U talk to the guy and he will spawn the dragon to kill if you have more peps than one you have to wait for the dragon to respawn and them to loot it

If you are in a group, only one person can get the quest item for each kill.&nbsp To make it worse, the dragon will only respawn once every 10 minutes.&nbsp So a party of five will take about an hour total.&nbsp

I agree with Vulturefu, if you haven't done it already, take the quest to get the molt:

It will be much easier if you're higher level, but not a strong soloer against the Dragon, or if in a group, only one person needs to light the braziers & everyone gets a molt from the turnin npc, plus the rewards from that quest are also a bonus! Much easier than a group needing to kill the dragon over & over.

Just wanted to let people know that if you completed Set Them Ablaze a long time before getting this quest, you can go back to Kalaran in Searing Gorge and the chest will still be there.&nbsp (At least it was for me.)

I looted it and got the molt, no problem.

Soloed the Frenzied Black Drake as a level 52 Troll Hunter.. Piece of cake. (Beast master)

You can only get one molt at a time off the minion dragonspawn. So if you have multiple people on the quest, you have to keep respawning it. I don't think anyone's mentioned it. Also, can you only get it by skinning the drake? Another intereting question.

where do u find him?

I just spoke with him and said i couldnt prove myself and i fought his pet and kicked but with a 54 holy priest ^_^

Note that the Frenzied Black Drake is immune to fire damage. So not much point in bringing your imp if you're a warlock.

Soloed as a 53 hunter, and hit 54 in the process. I just kept him at the end of the cave with my pet, and just went all out on him. Flame buffet is a #$%^&. Once he killed my pet, he came after me and took me down to 300~ish. Not. Fun.

For me there wasn't any prereq for this quest. When I walked into the cave for the first time without ever having done any of the quests that are supposed to load up to this one I was already able to get this quest and the mold by talking to him.

Is this site wrong or is it perhaps a bug?

I happened to stumble upon this quest while levelling in the Burning Steppes. I had seen the Black Drake flying around the area already and avoided it because I didn't realize it was a couple levels below me (I see a giant dragon and think Pwnage x_x). When I accepted the quest I figured he wanted me to kill it, I wasn't prepared for the 500DMG Flame Breath, so I died the first time.

As a level 52 Affliction Lock (without Curse of Doom ... you don't get that until 60), I simply sent my VW into him, making sure I'm at least with in the minimum range to start dotting immediately after my VW successfully Torments it. Siphon Life, Corruption, (Amplify Curse) Curse of Agony, Unstable Affliction. Then begin to use Drain Life as much as I can, though eventually it's attention turns off the VW and on to me. At this point I just start running away, lol. We don't have to be facing it to recast the dots (except for Unstable Affliction, but I'm not stopping for that) and I somehow managed to avoid his Flame Breath. I never thought about sacrificing the VW, so I'll keep that in mind next time, lol ...

Using a Superior Health Potion and a Greater Healthstone, I survived with a little over 1k HP.

No Molt, wasn't aware YOU had to summon it. Oh well, it was a fun fight, I'll do it again some time.

just talk to him twice ppl no need for cords or just kill the LARGE elite Dragons you had to aviod while questing

the interaction with this NPC - Cyrus Therepentous - was a bit confusing for me... i talked to him and showed him the Molt. then i had to talk to him again before i could continue with this quest...

this whole line of quests seems to need a little work...

I just tried this quest again, and when I didn't have proof, he spawned a 55 elite drake. After I died and went back, I tried to get another chance, but could not get him to spawn another drake. After abandoning and reaquiring the quest, the dummoned drake did not appear, so I will try again another day.

If you already have a Molt, it seems you do not need to fight the Black Drake

Where do you find the drake that drops the molt?

there are two ways to obtain the molt:
1. there is a chain in searing gorge (The Flawless Flame), in the chest you'll get as reward there is a molt aswell. the NPC will know this and ask you to show it to him in a mini-quest.
2. speak with him, say you don't have a proof and accept his challenge. A frenzied black drake (elite 52) will enter the cave and attack you. He will drop a molt aswell.

There seems to be some timer on the latter quest, when I and a friend did it, he had to wait a bit until "his" drake spawned.

If you are doing this quest by summoning the Drake in the Burning Steppes, be advised that the spawn may be camped and 'stolen' by anyone who is outside the cave at the time it is summoned.

Make sure you have your group waiting outside the cave for the spawn so you can tag it before a farmer does.

Sad that there are those who would grief like this, but they are out there :(

Its on a time - about 3min or so - if it doesn't spawn for you after 3min - logout and back in and do it - In a group of 3 - we managed to get him to come 3 times by doing this. . . . proof . . . ready . . . KILL
