In order to get this quest you have to have done this quest series http://classicdb.ch/?quest=3442 which starts in Searing Gorge.

Talk to him again once you get the quest...&nbsp He'll spawn a 54 elite.&nbsp Kill him and get the Molt as loot.

If you're in a group, be warned: The Molt is NOT a group loot item, one person should get the quest, call in the minion, then the next person, etc...

I have the molt in hand and he keeps asking for me to show it to him...but then the quest marker for him after he asks for it turns grey, as if I have not filled the prereqs. About to submit a ticket if I can't find out more info.

Cyrus Therepentous gives it to you, he is in the cave in Burning Steppes&nbsp it's the cave to the NE along the Mountains.

You get the molt out of the chest dropped by the guy near Thorium Point.

As a 56+ sub spec I was able to do it this way...

After talking to quest giver the dragon should spawn. Vanish and lose aggro, sneak behind it and use preperation, then ambush, use sinister strike (ss)once or twice to get up to 5 combo pts then use expose armor to drop his armor. By now u'll prolly have to use either Evasion or if u're friendly with AB then the Talisman of Arathor https://classicdb.ch/item=51397  (I used both, one at a time of course) to abosrb his attack. Use a healing pot then preperation to finish cooldown of rogue timers. Meanwhile, continue to ss and evicerate to keep dropping his hit pts.

With any luck u'll kill him quickly. (Strategy also works with other 52+ elietes).

he is at 93,32 inside the cave

Yeah I did this quest as a 52 rogue...didn't have to fight a dragon. I walked in and talked to him, he said show me the molt and I accepted the quest. You talk to him again, and there's an option to show him the molt. You click that and it says quest complete. He says some stuff and you click him again to complete the showing the molt to him quest. Then he gives you the quest for brd. The only dragons I saw were outside. He didn't spawn ANYTHING.

i found this NPC - Cyrus Therepentous - by total luck, i wasn't even looking for him, just stumbled upon him in a cave in the eastern part of The Burning Steppes (at map location 94,31).

anyway, you need to have the Black Dragonflight Molt with you that you received from the Trinkets... quest.

i have Black Dragonflight Molt but i havent got the quest Quest: A Taste of Flame do i usually just get the q when i loot the dragon flight...anyay i tried taking it to Cyrus he said "only a fool would disturb me in my cave" and he has a silver excalamtion mark above his head. Doesnt that mean i am too low lvl for the quest...im only lvl 51. What would u do?

Just make sure you click on him twice.

or you can challenge him through dialogue.

His minion is just outside the cave. For Locks, if you have curse of doom, use it. Then, have your VW with you, plus a major mana pot. As your Pet's health drops, hit sacrifice and drink a pot. resummon pet and hit the minion with shadow bolt. When the COD kicks in, either the minion will die or have very few HP left.
Oh, make sure you have good Fire resist when you do this...mine was 25...not much, but it worked.

If you DO NOT have the [black dragonflight molt] from the Trinkets quest:

Talk to Cyrus, then choose speech option "I do not have proof". A level 54 elite Frenzied Black Drake will spawn, kill it and loot the [black dragonflight molt]. (At this point Cyrus' question mark will still be SILVER)

Talk to Cyrus again and choose the speech option "I have proof". NOW the question mark above his head will be GOLD and you are able to turn in your quest :)

You don't need the previous quests to be able to do A Taste of Flame...

The post of TheAnubus was helpfull. I did just that clicking on Cyrus twice. A level 54 black dragon entered the cave and I attacked it. Wasnt successfull on the first try coz I had to vanish but on the second try I got him down and looted him the quest item. If you fail to beat him he'll just be waiting outside the cave.

This is easily soloable, especially if you have a set of gear with fire resist.

Soloed as a level 53 BM Hunter. I would have a Major Healing Potion handy. Pet died in process but he doesn't close to melee range so you can shoot the rest of his life out. He has about 6500 hps. As for fire resist I have 0 and he was hitting me for 497 every 5 seconds, of course that spell is interruptible.
